ok 1: about the selling of mythic you would think that they where running a company by obtaining billions of dollers for mythic and the CEO actually cared the fans not his share holders... the monsters!
2: I think EA wants to loss there bad rep for mmo's because all they have done is thrown money at mythic and sayed make a good game other then that all seems to be the same.
All I can say is: those that claim to hate them game; that it's going to fail simply because a certain company tacks its name onto it, without even trying the game, are biased and, well, just idiotic. Play the game before you decide these things -- you know nothing. No one knows how this game will turn out in the long run.
However, the nay-sayer's need to understand that just because a company made some mistakes in that past; that doesn't mean the company is going to continue to make the same mistakes. Mythic said they are going to give them as much time as needed to make the game as polished as possible before release, and they're not getting involved with the development.
If you don't like the game anymore, then why are you hanging around the forums for it? Go somewhere else to spread your negativity.

Kills me people are still waiting on Darkfall.. I remember when the dinosaurs rules the earth and Darkfall was announced. Then a meteor was gonna hit the earth and kill all the dinosaurs but Bruce Willis and Aerosmith saved them.. so they could work on Darkfall.. centuries later... "Are we there yet?"
Dont have much fate in EA , but Mythic could be the one to unseat WoW. Been doing alot of looking back (iits been ages since I played Warhammer) .. I dont know , I think if anyone can control EA it would be Mythic. They made a pretty decent game in DAOC , I think since it launched I ve returned for 1 year stretches at time.
EA seems hungry for place in the MMORPG market.,. maybe they learned from UO and Earth & Beyond to let the develpers do thier jobs and do it right.

We will have to hope that EA has learned from their pasts mistakes, and that they leave the development to Mythic
This is a fairly simple concept. EA is NOT developing the game. Mythic IS developing the game. EA gives money to Mythic and Mythic uses it to create a better game. EA then receives money from Mythic when the game becomes profitable.
This is seen every single day in the form of the stock market. A company begins with a good idea. Investors put money into it and then recieve cash back when the company becomes profitable.
Mythic has had a lot of success with MMOs in the past. EA has not been as successful. Due to the fact that this is more than a game, it is a business, all parties involved want to pull the most profit possible from the project. EA will most likely give Mythic a LOT of freedom because they know what they are doing and have already PROVEN it.
WAR will be a Mythic game, not an EA game. The EA tag will be on the game, only because of the massive investment (also known as a gamble) EA is taking by investing in Mythic.
And before anyone says "EA bought Mythic! They aren't investing in it", understand that companies are owned by the investors. The money that is sunk into the company in the form of stock is translated into a partial ownership. The majority stockholder or largest investor is the primary owner of the company.
To reitterate. This game is being designed to make MONEY. It will make more money if it is a better game that appeals to more people. EA and Mythic both understand this, and in my opinion, will produce a phenomenal end product that will rival WoW in it's playability and entertainment value.

let's spell it out MYTHIC IS NO MORE
Clear enough?
MYTHIC EA is a new division of EA games and they are developing the game. Mark Jacobs is a new vice-president of EA and in charge of the Mythic EA division.
All that talk about investors and stuff? it doesn't much matter. it is true, the investors own the company, but it is the board of directors that makes the decision and guess what? that board of directors could decide tomorrow "let's cut WAR" and well, the game get cut. maybe they will be replaced later, but i doubt your average ivnestor has any clue what is WAR and what does it represent.
Already, UO development has been transferred to the new division and so mark jacobs will have to integrate a bunch of new guys (that won't even work in same offices).
EA is not investing in the game, it is now officially making it, with all that it concernes, bucketloads more money and couple idiots leading the company (judging from their results in mmorpgs at least).
Hopefully mark jacobs, with his position as vice president and leader of the new division, will not be influenced or jumped over by those couple (if they still work there).

Volkmar....Killion said it clear enough.
And let me clear a few things up for YOU.
Its EA MYTHIC....NOT Mythic EA
Also, EA is investing in the game as much as I "The Small business Owner" invest money into a another area of my business.
The INVESTORS do matter. Dont tell people they dont. You piss off the investors and lose the investors serious amounts of money and the investors can Vote or vote with there pocketbooks and sell there stock.
The whole point of EA acquiring Mythic was to make MMO's.
"The board of directors could decide tommorrow lets cut war". Thats as likely as Ferrari spending 30 million on a car they plan on mass producing and then at the very last second cancelling the whole project. Its not gonna happen.
"The board of directors could decide tommorrow lets cut war". Thats as likely as Ferrari spending 30 million on a car they plan on mass producing and then at the very last second cancelling the whole project. Its not gonna happen.
That's not totaly true. What happened to Middle-Earth Online. They did cancel their project, right?
For the rest, I'm not scared away by EA getting mythic. GW wont let EA fuck with their game, so I think WAR is pretty safe with EA Mythic
And sorry if my tones were a bit high, but the other poster make it sound like if EA was just the publisher of WAR. well, it is not, it is the owner.
And cutting war is a big deal for EA? why so? They didn't finance a dime of the development until now. Mythic did. Surely EA paid a pricely sum for acquiring the company, but that does not count as development costs in any book, it is expanding the company.
Fact is, if EA needs some programmers or artists for some other projects, they are gonna ask them around internally first.
Fact is, the decisions about WAR and DAoC are not anymore 100% mythic. but 100% EA. Now, if that doesn't concern you a little bit (Earth & beyond was making a profit from the last count, small, but a profit and it was cut... same company we are speaking of here, EA), i dunno what does.
Games Workshop does change the deal a bit, but then how much does GW knows of software development? not much i guess and EA IS a big company that can surely sweet talk to about anybody around.
Anyhow, i don't believe any bad will come to WAR, but i just wanted to put the facts straight.

Again I strongly disagree with many of the things you say.
You said other poster make it sound like if EA was just the publisher of WAR. well, it is not, it is the owner.
Yeah your right to some extent. BUT the WHOLE POINT OF BUYING MYTHIC WAS FOR WARHAMMER--IS FOR MAKING MMO's. Besides many of the people that we trust at mythic for making good games are in KEY COMPANY Positions. Just because Mark Jacobs is getting paid by EA MYTHIC doesnt mean I have any less trust in him.
For the most part I beleive that EA is just the publisher of WAR. Sure they can do more...but do you think they will?
Let me give you an example. Say I own a House building company and thats what I specialize in but I decide that I want to buy your company that specializes in Skyscrapers. Now I sort of understand your business and how you go about building but how much do you think Im going to excercise my authority in how you build skyscrapers? Not much I would immagine.
Same thing with EA and Mythic. EA doesnt know jack shit about MMO's and thats why they bought MYTHIC because Mythic DOES. Surely they have seen how succesful Mythic has been. Im also very sure that they know its in there financial best interest to support there MMO projects as best they can.
SO yeah TECHNICALLY EA isnt the publisher but we all know that Mythic is providing the ideas and EA is handing over the money.
You also said "And cutting war is a big deal for EA? why so? They didn't finance a dime of the development until now."
Again...why did EA buy mythic? What was the purpose? Was it there namebrand they wanted? NO. It was Warhammer. They wanted a piece of the MMO Money Pie that WoW has dominated for some time. So ask yourself, why would they ditch Warhammer?
Plan and simple. They wouldnt.
I hope I havent come off to abrasive but you have to understand that this has already been discussed in detail MANY TIMES. I know how horrible of a company EA can be. Ive seen what they have done to other games. Ive read all the press releases, forum opinions and Im done with hearing about it. ITS OLD NEWS. It has been OLD NEWS for quite some time.
Practially everyone has some reservations about EA. Im hoping for the best.
Regardless, anything said till the game is released is SPECULATION. No one has a crystal ball.
You know how many elections President Lincoln lost before becoming elected? The past (EA's past) doesnt guarantee failure.
Beside, EA does not know anything about MMorpg? And when that stopped them from making bad decisions?
But yes, the COMPANY line here is that EA bought Mythic for their MMorpg proficiency. this include DAoC, a succesful and still profitable MMorpg, even before WAR.
They could cut WAR and instead decides to employ Mythic's skills for upgrading and bettering DAoC. Sounds familiar? it should because IT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED WITH UO2.
No really, Earth & Beyond? UO2? Motor City Online? SIMS FREAKING ONLINE? the raping of the UO franchise do not make ANY alarm at all sounds in your head?
I trust Mark Jacobs and the folks at Mythic as much, it is the EA big wigs that i don't
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
UO2-- yeah..how far did that game go in production?
You can honestly say there was as much Hype, excitement and Quality behind UO2 as there is behind Warhammer?
And this idea "THEY COULD DO"....by that definition they could do anything that comes to my imagination.
Its what they will "LIKELY" do that Im interested in. Buying a company for its quality designers, imagination and the MOST UP AND COMING MMO on the market and then flushing that down the toilet is something I dont find very LIKELY.
Anyone else wanna help me beat this horse to death??

Beside, neither Mythic, EA or GW were ever involved in the project. The old MEO was a Sierra product, now owned by VU games (same parent company of Blizzard), while the new one is made by Turbine, owned by nobody
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
Some of you are just doomsayers trying to hate on WAR because you're afraid it'll actually challenge WoW.
Yes EA bought Mythic, I don't like it and neither do most people. However, EA can get the distribution out that Mythic never could. Also, this means that Mythic doesn't have to worry about money having 2 giant companies involved in the project.
Yes EA has a bad reputation for battering games it's involved in, but it's still the people from Mythic who are working on the game (as far as I can tell). This means we'll still get the Mythic quality as long as they can fend off EA enough.
Alot of people are mentioning GW because alot of other people are forgetting about them. Games Workshop owns the name Warhammer, and all the products etc associated it. They are very protective about their license and they still have a huge say in what happens with the MMO. Basically this means that GW will be running interference to try and keep EA from ruining the game.
They've all seen how successful WoW is, they just need to let Mythic do their things and all 3 need to make the conditions which led WoW to be so successful. Which is namely: No rushed schedule, no money constraints, and polish, polish, polish.
"Because it's easier to nitpick something than to be constructive." -roach5000
as long as EA doesnt try to change thing, then were fine, so if EA sticks as being just a publisher and not a editor and mythic does what it does, will be fine, i still have alot of faith in this game, same for AOC but not enough to preorder.

Beside, neither Mythic, EA or GW were ever involved in the project. The old MEO was a Sierra product, now owned by VU games (same parent company of Blizzard), while the new one is made by Turbine, owned by nobody
