Where are people supposed to start cities? Have they cleaned up the structures and dead cites? I went back for a month after NGE, and found the city I lived in dead. When I tried to start a city it took forever to find a place to even attempt to build, and there was no chance of the city growing because the planet was capped. Maybe that was just on Tat, I didn't try anywhere else.
No they havent cleaned it up.. A Dev actually commented that people who left and come back, only toi find their stuff wiped out, would not be to hapopy... They are currently working on "developing the technology" to clean stuff up...
So no.. They will never clean up the servers..

Yea, would be such a loss indeed. - House of tapes - House of krayt loot - House of geo, dwb, vette loot - 2 Houses of mustafar and kashyyyk loot - House of armors (double converted by now) - Jedi house, with pearls, crystals, holocrons, jedi foods
Oh, wait, do delete those, they are just worthless decorative items now. They aren't worth the bytes they take up.
What I do need that won't be affected: - An elder Jedi, robes, and all of that stuff in inventory - PvP medic, with top of the line armor, both of the current best weapons - A BH, top of the line armor, both current best weapons
All characters carry a full set of all musta buffs, and any immediately applicable items used in combat, all renewable, fully equiped ships, sorosub deeds, swoop deeds, and perhaps an oddity or two.
Some of the older rewards of sentimental value (like noob melon) I keep in bank.
The only two lots that are worth something still, are the old spice factories, full to the brim with pixie and booster.
So guess what. There's nothing worth keeping anymore, since the only stuff you NEED can be kept in inventory, and the rest can be kept in bank. But there's nothing left (even resources, what's a trader?) that are worth stockpiling anymore.
And those that do spend lots of time decorating houses, either don't care about the combat, or have quit since it's a combat only game now. It's empty hope that this is what will keep returning players happy. Well, it's not.

Actually, a Dev posted in January (I think) that they had the tech & a plan to remove player houses, but that it would destroy Player Cities, so they were waiting until they had a plan. The post was deleted in seconds, but not before a TON of people responded, so the thread was deleted. A few people here posted about it, so you may be able to find a post about it.
My guess is that they have to completely revamp the city system, and that's a huge job. If they don't and do a clean-up, 95% of City SP's will disappear within a week. That's actually why I thought they gave out ITV's... so folks wouldn't get too mad...

I would think a slight change to the way the house pack system works would do the job. If they really don't want to delete a canceled players possessions stored in their homes, just pack it up and add it to their datapad. They would just need to change how the lot is handled when the house is packed. If i understand it correctly, currently packing up a house does not free up the physical lot it was on until it is placed again. I seems reasonable that that could be changed with a little bit of work, and then have the houses packed up after a certain amount of time.
As far as ghost-cities themselves go, the election system can correct that with some slight changes to lot placement permissions. Or they could just pack those structures up as well... I personally believe that if the city has no active residents able to run in an election for a long period of time, they should just delete it.

When placing a city hall, it only takes one citizen to join your city
All characters will recieve a City Hall, Cantina, Shuttleport, Bank and med center deed at level 5.
All characters will recieve several garden deeds at level 7
All characters will get a brand new painting when thier city reaches 5 pop
New Population/Rank System:
1 Village
2-5 Big Village
5-7 Bigger village
8-10 Really really big village
11+ Metro
After reaching Metro status, You will be able to call Darth Vader to your city for a cup of tea.
When your city reaches 20 citizens. Every citizen will recieve a new painting.

Of course any other MMO would just set up designate areas and let people buy lots but that would be rational.
