IMO, monthly fees are really tough when you're young. One reason is because when ur a kid, you dont necessarily have access to a CC and you dont have access to the money either.  Another problem is if you get grounded or w/e, then that month is basically a waste of money so paying 15bucks for 150 hours would be nice.

Haha, that why alot of people like monthly. They blame the ganking and bad insults on us, not realizing that player like that are usually 30 year olds who live in their parents basement. I can't wait to see what Connan's comunity is going to be like. Somehow I don't think it'll be 'mature'.

Then you can always temporarily suspend your account.  I'd never play any game that charged by the hour, simply because it'd ruin it if I were always worrying about whether or not I was getting my money's worth, with every hour.  I couldn't stand that sort of ticking clock hanging over my gameplay.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Just because pretty much all current MMO are crappy, doesn't mean MMO as a term will stay crappy.

The way I see it, MMO is the future for video games. All games, not just RPG, will only be perfect in MMO form.

Yes I am quite disappointed in all the current MMO. They are more or less the same, and lack of real fun. All those so called quests in ALL MMORPG now are "kill 10 wolves", "kill 20 thieves" etc. etc. go on forever. All MMORPG has the mobs respawn every 30 sec. or so, which designed to have you camp the same spot forever.

    BORING! Painful but true.

Then again, MMORPG does not stand for grinding camping same spot, as long as it is Massive Multiplay Online, it is MMO. which means it can be completely different in the term of game play. Lets just hope the game developers soon will finally realize less and less people enjoy the "easily entertained" boring crap they offer now, and make some REAL interesting games instead. As far as I can see now, "real interesting" does not exist right now in MMO at this moment.

I mean of course its opinionated but bad games get bad reviews, end of story!

Actually Barbie Horse Adventures, atleast on the PS2 is a GREAT GAME. No BS. It's targeted at young girls (ie my daughter who loves Barbie).. and my little 5 year old girl loves it to pieces. The game, for who and what it is made for, is an excelltent game. It has smooth gameplay, interesting puzzles (aimed at the younger audience), and great graphics that are competitive with any similar PS2 game. Ofcourse teenage boys and young adult men are not going to be intrigued with a Barbie game that is targeting 6 year old girls! Duh! Look at the games reviews where it gets like 4.5 outta 5 stars, etc before you come here badmouthing what is actually a well-made childrens game.

Furthermore, most games ARE indeed what you make of them. There is no "perfect" game out there. And there NEVER will be. The reason is because everyone is different. Everyone looks for different things. To you, WoW might be a perfect game. To me, Asheron's Call might be my perfect game. And to my 5 year old daughter, well I don't have to ask her because I really dont feel like having my eardrums about busted when she yells out "Barbie!" as loud as she can, hehe.

    I do agree with you however that games are certainly made of different qualities. Even if there is a superior well made game out there such as the hit RPG "Oblivion" for example.. not everyone will love it. My five year old daughter saw it and thinks its totally stupid. But that doesn't mean that it really sucks. {winks}

A lot of companies are trying to recreate financial success of WoW.. and most of them have no idea what they are doing... I think DDO is a good example. But with every publishing company under the sun pulling in MMOs in development, or starting their own after WoW exploded in to what it is, I'm sure someone will get it right. For the time being, my money is on Age of Conan.... but the reasons i don't like most of the other big name MMOs coming out are probably just a matter of taste and preference.. I think there is something coming down the pipe for just about every type of gamer. I would love the see some people break the standard mold a little... maybe try something other than the fantasy genre... but I think that will all come in time.

I think WoW is piece of junk.  People will realize it sooner or later.

Let me say, GW is BETTER than any MMORPG out there, and if it's not strictly a MMORPG...WHO CARES!!? It redefines what a MMORPG should be!
Get off your high horses and play the best Online game out there...GW! You might even (heaven forbid) convince other MMO-makers that they don't have to CHARGE MONTHLY fees to make a profit either...or maybe you're happy to keep paying $15 a month for a genre you think is crap anyway. Fools ;)
PS. No I'm not employed by GW (or connected companies) and yes, I've played many many MMOs. (I've played 18 of games on the "Released Games" list on the left, for at least a month each, and am in 5 or 6 betas at the moment. You can't say I don't know my stuff) Fair enough if you have tried GW (and I mean really given it a go) and not liked it. But if you're just being stubborn or game-snobbish then think again my friends.

    lol, a GW fabnoi.

GW is craptastic.  It made a perfectly good coaster tho.

I rather go play a single player game any day before I EVER, EVER login to that POS game again.

Sorry mate, you must have me confused with the EVE fanbois (you know EVE, the game that always scrambles back to the top of MMORPG.com's rankings whenever it gets passed).

As for your other derogatory talk about GW...try using rational arguments in your posts...you may even convince some people that you have a clue.

PS. a) I have ONE, count 'em, one account on MMORPG.com (any more would be a waste of time, as I don't care enough to skew the rankings). b) I've never played Runescape (and if I had wouldn't I be voting for Runescape instead of GW ::::12::) and c) I'm old enough to be the father of most of the "kiddies" on here.

Pity EVE doesn't even make a good screensaver. Screensavers should be free, not $15 a month.

Oh, and while you're at it (EVE fanboi) riddle me this: why, when GW passed EVE on MMORPG.com rankings (with the release of GW:Factions), did both GW and EVE received a bunch of new reviews (from "new" accounts) that somehow rocketed EVE back in front...EVE is 3 years old...what woodwork did all of these new reviewers come out of? Meh, actually who cares, I don't need MMORPG.com to tell me what is good to play.

  • LasraikLasraik Member Posts: 170

    LOL

The mmorpg ratings mean nothing.  You said yourself EVE is/was at the top of the list and according to you it's a horrible game.  So if GW is on the same list, what does it say about your precious game, fanboi?

Yes, EVE is 3 years old, and it's population is rising.  But you wouldn't know that because you're obviously clueless and blinded by your fanboi love.  GW isnt' even an MMORPG.

The reason why i play online game is to have fun doing something, talking to people from foriegn countries and doing something great. MMORPG are not junk, if you don't like them, don't play them. It's so simple, people need to learn that. Instead of saying this and that, like this mmorpg sucks, or all mmorpg need to die. You sound just like Jack Thompson when you say those things. SO listen to me, IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THAT GAME, DON'T FUCKING PLAY IT! nuff said.

If you want a diverse amoount of MMORPG's then give your support to the small gaming developers out there and help them.
I started playing MMORPG's because of Guild Wars. It looked like something new and I was excited while playing beta. But they made me pay 50 euro's for some unfinished game. So if big companies like that can't even make what they intended to make I thought I might as well support a small gaming company that also try to make a new type of MMORPG.

MMORPG's will become more diverse and you will get to choose what you like best. Keep your eye of the big companies who only do it for the money. Sure they probably have mouth watering graphics and all kind of other tricks to get you subscribed but you will only get disapointed because they made it sound better then it is.

Agreed with the OP. No game really has pushed the MMORPG world forward other than Eve Online since the dawn of Ultima Online (pre-Trammel).

Actually the current MMORPGs are a dumbed down version of Ultima Online which is 10+ years old.

"What the worlds should have is a totally interactive environment based on player run events, player run wars and player run economy."

Try playing tibia to level 20, this is one of the few remaining games of this type.

There is no level cap and the highest level is like 260 or something.

you will be surprised i promise you.

You are correct, but how do you justify being charged monthly to play them.   Neverwinter Nights was playable online and had no extra Fees.   People made free modules for everyone to enjoy.

I wouldnt mind paying monthly if the games were worth it.   To be charged monthly content must be added daily to weekly.  Player run events run by the staff should also be seen weekly instead of an exapansion or fix every month.

Thats the whole point.   All this money is being taken in and nothing is being invested back into the game.   These online worlds should have a staff dedicated just for player content and events.   (Weekly held events and additions).  Then atleast I can see paying monthly.   Not for fixes or patches or expansions every 3 months.

Neverwinter Nights requires the players to run their own servers.  Trust me, anyone running a quality Neverwinter Nights server is paying a lot more than $10 to $15 a month to host it (or they have a good friend at a hosting center, hehe).  Companies hosting their own MMOs charge people to cover the costs of their hosting infrastructures, and to make some profit of course.

That being said, I think a game like DDO would have been much better off designed as a host it yourself game more along the lines of NWN, than as an MMO.
