guild wars can afford to innovate and doesnt need a "hook" per se due to its payment model. if you trying to collect subscriber money the ugly reality is you will feel tempted to put in timesinks pretty mcuh whereever u think your audiencve will endure.
thus, its much easier to target the PVE'ers because u can string them along forever by dangling loots. notice the pure PVP games (FPS) dont even try that. PVP centric games have a hard time due to this factor- because us pvpers want for player skill to count and normally hate losing jsut because someone has been playing a lot longer. PVE'ers understand MMORPGs a bit better then us in this regard traditionally
