As someone else said long time ago. If you are going to be stuck looking at your characters ass for several hours per day the least you can do is make sure it's a good looking ass
I agree. Personally, given the supposedly visual bias of males, I can't understand how so many men play as male characters. I can understand women playing as females, given that they don't share that visual-bias trait that men have. But to have so many men playing male characters brings up some questions for me. Not that I'm homophobic or anything, but it's just interesting that so many men prefer to be looking at a male ass.
Needless to say, I've never played a male in any 3rd person game where I've been offered the choice of male or female. Not that roleplaying a male character is something I'd never do, but the female form (even pixellated and cartoonish) is just more attractive to me.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't stare at the ass, but rather personify myself as the character. For me, it's more difficult for me to relate or identify myself with a fictional character if it is a different gender. I also like to be perceived as a male when playing online. I know many female characters are played by males, but I'm more of a nitpicker in this aspect when playing online games. I agree that even cartoonish female forms attract me in some way (but to a lesser degree than real women).

take a Dark elf from L2 and an elf from WoW. .. Wow drawings are like for ... 12- year old by the way it is pictured, but a nice game, i stopped wow cuz of the graphics, bloom/gloom/blur, character looks. becuz i found out L2.
I hate to throw estrogen into this party, but as a woman... Lineage 2 all the way. I don't mind showing a little virtual skin. But when I was young and thin and single, I was right fond of mini-skirts and the like... I am too old now to ever hope that my body and the laws of physics would ever let me look that good in that little clothing, but I can pretend online, can't I? If I can get a chainmail bikini with a massive armor rating, I am a happy camper... I've been playing some EQ2 lately, and while the armor would likely be more protective if the game were real life, I sure wish I could show just a little more skin. Not so keen on the buttoned-up-collar look.
hellgate is a bad game and may not be an mmo (depends your point of judgement) but it has some cool armor sets. Otherwise, korean mmos have superior art direction, debatable yes.
