Sleep habits?

KuzzleKuzzle Member Posts: 1,058

I was just wondering, since my sleep habits(I'd say "patterns", but, frankly, I see no pattern.) lately have varied greatly as of late, what you guys' sleep patterns are like?

I haven't been able to sleep for longer than four hours in over a month without being woken up. I normally am woken up every couple hours, go back to sleep a few times, until people start running around the house yelling,(To each other in different rooms, mostly.) then I lay there for an hour and a half, then get up. The other day, I had a migraine, and I slept off and on for about twenty hours... About one third of the time, though, I sleep for around four hours, then have to get up. I've only been awake around twelve hours and already my eyes are drying out, and I feel so very tired... So, also, how long are you awake in a day? It varies so much for me. Normally between fourteen and twenty hours, but that's very vague...

    You sound like me.

Unfortunately, I found out what my problem was a few months ago.  I have a disease called Fibromyalgia.  It sucks.  I'm tired all the time, I can't sleep well, I get about 3-5 migraines a week, and I'm very sore around my shoulders, my neck, and in my arms and legs all the time.

Actually, the worse part (besides the migraines) about it is this thing called brain fog.  I feel like my brain is running on half capacity most of the time.  It's really annoying and at times it can make me a little anxious since I forget what I'm doing or have trouble talking or working.

I hope you don't have something serious causing your problem or something developing.  I would go see your doctor, because my doc told me that sleeping is a natural thing and shouldn't be difficult.

    I usually sleep 4-6 hours.

Unless something occured the night previously that made me get less sleep.

But I just forget to goto bed until late and then have to do stuff in morning.

Edit: I'm sorry to hear that Reavo. As well as you not being able to sleep, Kuzzle.

     Lemme respond to it...

I'm not tired all the time but sometimes to alot yea.

I'm sore around my shoulders and neck. Don't get to many migraines. Maybe 1-2.

That's the exact same with me.

I go outside to do something and completely forget. Or inside. Or take this for instance. I was just about to take my shower, and got some new soap out of my other bathroom. I layed it on the counter in my kitchen and walked out to my room and got in my shower. I couldn't find my soap, and remembered getting it. I then looked around my room for it, couldn't find it. Then I just thought to glance on the counter and there it was. That could just be that i'm dumb as hell but....lol.

During the week I usually get about 3-4 hours due to work/gaming and bad sleep habits, then on the weekend I usually get about 14 hours on saturday(friday night), 9-11 hours on sunday(saturday night) and then back down to 3 or 4 sunday night.

Not lucky, just has his priorities straight. I used to sleep very little because of MMO's, but now I adjusted my priorities and make sure I get sleep every night. After all, the games will be there tomorrow. So I typically sleep from either 12 or 1am to 9-10. Just depends. During the day I study (college), work out, spend time with my wife and kid and if I have time, I play a MMO.

It's not a matter of having my priorities strait. I usually can't sleep until some time around 7:30am, regardless of how tired I am. Sometimes, though, if I haven't slept well in a long time, I can fall asleep at just around 1 or 2 am... I'm tired...

Well good luck to all of you falling asleep.

    I'm doing the same.

Now I just have to figure out where to sleep on it.

Kuzzle I understand. Trust me, if anyone should sleep more it's me. Dunno why, I just dont feel tired. and Nthnaoun - I do not play any mmorpg currently so to blame it on such a premise would not be prudent or founded.

I sleep 8-10 hours every other day. Works out just fine, I used to get pretty nasty headaches and random soreness like some of you but I think my body get used to it.I used to have really eratic sleep patterns sometimes days without sleep but got it under control.

I normally get from 2-5 hours of sleep every night, however i've been doing it for so long the lack of sleep affects me a lot less now. My whole problem with getting alot of sleep is merely getting my brain to "shut off" and relax so that i can get to sleep. I tend to lay in bed for 1-3 hours thinking of ...well...whatever comes to mind. Its quite annoying being so tired you can't keep you eyes open, but your mind being so active that you can't actually get to sleep.

I tend to shift sleep almost permanently - I seem to get tired very easily so a full day at work = sleep at 6pm, then wake up at 12 or something, play some games and go to sleep again at 3/4.

Today was a prime example - 7am and Im about to hit the hay and wake up at 2pm for a poker tourny :)

    it really depends.

for me i really hate to say this its substance dependent.

if i smoked enough during the day i sleep fine.

if i didnt i cant sleep.

if i havent smoked at all im worthless, cant sleep, and am grumpy.

but if i smoked enough i get 6-8 hours.

I personally sleep for about 8-10 hours.  I usually fall asleep at around 12-1pm and wake up at about 10-12am.  If I get any less then 7 hours of sleep i feel pretty crappy in the morning and just overal sore.

Meh I have pretty severe insomnia and Restless Legs Syndrome (where if you're sitting or laying down trying to sleep or just otherwise bored you get severe discomfort in your legs, hands etc and you HAVE to move). Almost every time I wake up after sleeping my sheets are completely removed from my matress from all my rolling around. It got to the point where I started using diaper pins to secure each corner of the sheets to my matress, but that just ends up tearing the sheets and I have to buy new sheets all the time

I have always been a terrible insomniac, there were days when I could go 48 hours without so much as a cat nap. I did a little research, talked to some folks at the local sleep clinic, and tried a few things for myself.

I think a lot of the problem is that people are physically tired, but their minds are so overstimulated with the barrage of infomation that we take in on a daily process that they just wont shut off. and when you do fall asleep it feels more like the computer on stand by rather than actually being turned off.

You have to keep your sleep on a routine schedule, it requires commitment, and a little self discipline, but it makes a difference.

Try emptying your mind, its a lot harder than you think, and it took me a while to get it right, but when you can lie in bed without 1000 things that happened to you that day running through it, sleep comes a lot easier.

I would also avoid catnaps, and physical exertion right before you hit the sack.

Also for those of you who are into "recreational" drugs, that affects it as well.

Dont kid yourself, if you are only sleeping a few hours a night, you are going to pay for it later, both physically and mentally. Not being able to sleep has been linked to many health disorders, and it even causes you to age worse.

It takes 3 things to be healthy, Food, exercise, and sleep.

You shouldnt slack on any of those 3. :)

As a long time insomniac i've struggled with sleep to the point of having myself commited(ok well maybe not that far but close) Honestly though there are points in my life where i havent slept for 72 hours plus, that my friends is a miserable existance. Now i've stayed up that long in 'social' situations, but i'm speaking about while working a full time job and trying to function. After the 3rd day usually the hallucinations start, fun fun. (Some will mention sleeping pills, hardcore insomniacs can laugh through them.) Generally i have whats called slow sleep insomnia, which means it can take up to 4 hours to fall asleep every night. Usually it takes me 2-3 nightly and the earlier i try and hit the sack the longer it takes. This might sound rambling but i only got 2 hours last night so please forgive me. Oh well, it's a life

Sleeping is for sloths. It's always been around 4 hours for me. I could try going to bed early, but I just lay there. I am a night owl, so I can't sleep at night. I have kids, so I can't sleep during the day.

  • britocabritoca Member Posts: 1,484

In college I slept about 12hrs/day when I could, sometimes more.  Me and my roomates even had dream storytelling times.

Now if I can sleep one night without waking up, it's almost miraculous.

I'd say I only get about 3 hrs continuous sleep since I started working.  Not that it's stressful, it's just that the routine sucks, and I have extreme depressive tendencies.

These past few weeks I haven't slept much with more frequent news about global warming evidence and the middle east conflict.
It's gotten to the point where my girlfriend asked me to stop reading the news and frequenting the forums so often.  I did that, and I am sleeping a bit better, but I can't avoid being on top of the issues.

My average bedtime is 12-1AM and I usually wake up at 6:30-7:00AM, so I am in the 5-6 hr range everynight. Sleep has never been an issue for me.  My best run was in college when I had two reports due that I was the lead group writer on, 4 hrs sleep in 72+ hours and got an A on both.  I still remember my friend hitting 100 Hours and having room smears and extremely decreased motor functions to the point of 2-5 sec lags between thought and action...so imagine thinking I am thirsty and I want to grab that glass of water and drink, what would take a normal person no time at all became a task to him.  It was very entertaining to watch.
