I'm looking for a game where crafting is more then just finding random material all over the place.
But where, there's a realistic system with limited resources that people need to fight over and controll, and where the whole economy is based on items that are player created.
Doesn't mean that resources can't be around. I mean, common resources might be everywhere and not require any fighting over, but where there are some resources that are rare, then you need to (and actually can) capture and defend them with your friends, guilds, nations, whatever...
I already play Eve, wich is pretty damn close to what I want. It's just that the format is really borring.
I want to like the game, I really, do, and I've been playing for months, but I can only play for about 2-3 hours before I start to get sleepy and have to stop...
So, I'm wonering if theres any other game like that out there?

Project Entropia is probably the only other game where combat directly results from resource competition but you dont wanna play that :P

Note: PlayNC will refuse to allow you access to your account if you forget your password and can't provide a scanned image of the product key for the first product you purchased..... LOL
Nah... didn't look like my kinda thing.
RF-Online does it too. There is an RVR every 8 hours that gives you access to a super mining area until the next RvR so everyone shows up for the huge fights
Btw if you want crafting then go for Ryzom.

Well, yeah, there's lots of those web based strategy games.
Not really what I'm looking for either.
RF online sounds like it has that cool aspect, but it also sounds like it's majorly grinding focused.
If there's going to be grinding, I'd rather the grind be resource extration, rather then aimlessly fighting mobs.
Hmm... Sounds like eve again...
But, man, there's got to be *something* else...
Roma Victor sounded interesting. Build your own buildings, fight over resouces, heavy PVP... It's too bad the game's just too budget to really be playable.
Tbh I'd recommend trying to find a third gen mmo with what youre looking for and just start trying to weezle into the beta for that. The games out there just dont cut it - its like only being able to see 1 side of a 20 sided dice and full dice are coming soon..

But I want it now
Heh... No really, I'm not working, or in school at the moment, so I have time to kill.
I know there's nothing out there though... I just shoot the question out every now and then on the odd chance... You know?
did you try silkroad ? its totaly grind based but i think its a fun try for a free mmo

In SWG you need to "fight" for space to place your havestors on some of the better spots. If you find the spot too late and someones already placed their harvestors then you might have to settle for a lower concentration of the resource or try find a new spot. The more common resources have a larger radius and their concentrations decrease at a lesser rate whereas with the more rarer stuff the concentration can drop dramatically within small distances from the center of the spawn. Heh, unfortunately you can't blow up the other guys harvestors though...

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.

Games already out with contested resources: EVE, Shadowbane
Games in development: Age of conan
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Shadowbane, UO, Jumpgate just to name a few. (CLASSIC UO mind you... not that EA crap) there are some others but they're not nearly as good. I would say that of the four best I'd rate EVE and Classic UO at the top.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.
Sig image Pending
Still in: A couple Betas

Which FF Character Are You?
Not for everybody though.
Shadowbane for now.
Darkfall for later.
I tried shadowbane.
Seems really cool.
Doesn't really work on my computer. Crashes all the time.
No idea why. My video card gets wonky with older games...
I wanted to like it, but even if I did get it to work, the choppy animations just make it difficult to swallow. I mean, I don't mind dated graphics, I still play SNES games sometimes, or X-Com. but I just get the impression that shadowbane's graphics were never verry good.
I tried RYl. It was by far the biggest waste of money I've ever... well... ok,, maybe not the THE biggest, but you get the point. It really sucked. There isn't even any PVP in the game, I mean, there is, but everything is duels. How can you compete over resources when you can't kill the other guys?
As for SWG, it sounded like it was really cool once, with the skill based system, and the player housing and all... but I hear a lot of bad things about it recently.
As for UO, never even thought about it. I'll check it out.
They could always make it so that you can only capture resouces during a specific time, like in shadowbane.
Or manybe make it so that you can set up automated/NPC defences, but that might make it too easy to defend...
*shrug*
I dunno... I don't design these things, I just want to play them. :P
See, I don't really like the whole instanced battlegrounds thing.
That makes it feel less like war, and more like a team sport.
I mean, to be perfectly honest, I don't even really like tactical combat. I mean, I don't mind it... I realise that it's part of the game, but I'm more interested in... well... in logistics, as in, winning a war by having superior numbers and equipment, and having strategic controll of resources.
Kinda bugged me about WOW... Not enough emphasis on world PVP. I mean, the only world PVP that really happens is rogues ganking people when they're fighting mobs...
It'd have been cooler if WOW was actually more like the Warcraft strategy series. If you could build towns, and cut down trees, and capture mines, and acutally fight over controll of the world map.
*sigh*
Exept that if it was like that, then one side or the other would eventally win, and then that'd be the end of the game...
oh well...I'll keep dreaming I guess...
