I'm currently at a bit of a loss for what to play, having enjoyed SWG very much up until I finished the Legacy Quests, where I now find myself a little bored
I KEEP seeing posts about how insanely good EVE is, I've played it before, but not a vast amount. I always liked the game, but never really had the time to get into it properly... Now I'm working shifts, however, and do find myself with more spare time on my hands to play random games.
So what's so good about EVE? Sell your game to me, here

That EvE.
Is the.
WORST MMO EVER MADE.
all i will say before people start the flame wars, is that give eve a shot, its most definately worth it. and soloing only gets you so far, join a corp.
if you want to try a game, pick a game that is semi-original in what it does, or that does NOT follow today's "cookie-cutter of stupidity" mold. i.e. raids.
COx, Eve, ryzom, horizons (under new management, they might clean up some of the jacked up things in this game which took from it's coolness), guildwars is different (not for me, but still, it's not from the CCOS).
every game has it's pros and cons. eve is a game which is good to play if you DON'T have a ton of time to devote to playing a game BECAUSE of it's skill system.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Eve is a fun game for those in a decent corp... and is a great game for the time limited people (sorta)
To me EVE is almost like real life where you can have a hour of mind-numbing boredom folowed by 5 minutes of adrenaline pumping heart ponding excitement followed by either joy and elation or sadness a aggravation (depending on if you podded someone or they podded you).
It is worth a try but EVE is not for everyone, it is a love it or hate type game... you either hate or love it. Those that hate it do so with a passion and those that love it do so with a equal or greater passion.
Be aware in EVE it takes a little while before you really understand things like you thought you did.... there will be set-backs and windfalls... it is of the upmost importance to find a good corp that can help you out. But be forwarned carrying a corp tag can bring you disaster... I joined a corp early in my EVE fun and they promptly went to war with someone they shouldn't have.... I was stuck 20 something jumps away and got ganked by the other team .... it sucked to lose that nice new cruiser of mine tha tI forgot to insure......
Try EVE's trial... that just shows the tip of the iceberg and does not do it justice...
Witty saying to amuse you goes here.
I'm not selling EVE. You can get a free trial and find out for yourself. I think the *game* will either sell itself to you, or you'll find it is not your cup of tea.
I do think it's an incredibly well-made game for the niche it was designed to occupy. Yes, niche. EVE is a niche game. But, if you happen to like that niche, as I do, then there is a very good chance that you'll enjoy playing EVE.
Why should anyone "sell you" the game? Are you that much of a blind follower that some stranger's word will be meaningful enough to you to determine your own course in life?
Download the trial and find out for yourself.
Eve is a niche game. You can do whatever you want in Eve. All other mmorpgs are the same. The community in Eve is easily the most mature and intelligent of any mmorpg. Eve is a sandbox game. Eve has no grind. Eve will make you pancakes in the morning. Eve is single-handedly revolutionizing the MMO genre. Eve is a game where players affect and change the game world. Eve is the only mmorpg that has perfected PvP, PvE, WTvF, and RvR.
Listen, I could go on and on as to why Eve is the greatest game ever conceived, but the truth is its not for everyone. If everything is stale to you, then you should really try it. Eve is a great game!

I don't mean to double-post, but c'mon buddy. Message Boards are made for this very reason. We're just trying to help him out, since according to the majority of mmorpg.com posters, "industry reviews mean nothing". What else are we supposed to discuss if not what games we do and don't like?
Even if you don't enjoy it, you'll definitely say "Wow, this is a totally different concept."
There is no middle ground, you will either love it or hate it.
Theres a 14 day free trial, go see for yourself.
It's one thing to say: I'd like to know what people think about the game. But to take the stance: "convince me that I should play your game" is the typical setup of a flamebait.
EVE is good if you want to feel like your working when you're playing a game. Its a very tedious game and the sheer time it takes to get up to a respectable tier is daunting. The good points are that even when you're away from the computer you can be levelling your char up and theres a LOT of freedom and that translates into interesting PVP.
The trick is staying awake while you jump from system to system on a long trip or not swallowing your tongue while mining. Very tedious.
If those things bore you, why would you do them? It's not like that's all that there is to be done.
EVE CURES CANCER, OTHER MMOGS KICK YOU IN THE TESTICLES. PLAY EVE!1!!1!- RollinDutch loves EVE fanboys.
I personally like EVE. I have played many many mmorpgs. EVE is the only game that doesnt have a level cap. I know I know.. At a high level in EVE it takes forever to skill up!! But the point is. YOU STILL CAN!! Also something really cool about EVE is that you can change what you want to do on a moments notice. Unlike some mmorpgs which give you a defined set of classes.
Now im not a elitist, but I will say EVE does require intelligence more than any other mmorpg out there. Maturity also does have its effect in EVE. If you are a average kiddie 14-18 with puberty issues you will not last long in EVE. If you are the type of person who thinks you are a UB3R<IM £33+> gonna kick yur arse protog'e! Youll learn the meaning of podded rather quickly.
In EVE there is no powergamer. There will always be somebody equal to or better than you in the game. Why corporations are a necessity. Eve is the only game I know of where a newer player can affect the outcome of a big pvp battle. For me the game is FUN! So I play it.

it seems just so booring .... the trial almost made me fall asleep
Not as large as those Fantasy RPG mmo but just large.
Compare that to the other space mmo that has twitch based controls.

Give me lights give me action. With a touch of a button!
to the person talking about elitist eve players... i think it's hard to NOT cop an elitist attitude with some posters, no matter what game you play.

so because he is 17 and plays WoW his opinnion is not valid anymore?
Niche game, really. Either you love it, or you hate it. Sci-fi genre, pretty innovative game system, techie-oriented. Takes a while to get used to, but overall a pretty good, revolutionary game. Being a techie myself, I like this game, as it makes you use your brain more often than the regular item-grind/slashfest MMO out there. There's a lot of roleplaying, for those interested, and politics, as the game's a virtual sandbox in the end.
It's a real treat if you manage to get on a great corporation (guild) and actually participate in the in-game events. You can't go wrong with military-like ops against rival corporations, blowing up their stations and their structures in their star systems. See their hard-earned work, gathering resources for a month or two, down the drain, as you lay waste to their bases. Fun fun fun, heh.
It's definitely not for the impatient, as it requires you to plod through a ton of game information to get started. Also, progression is time-based, and that takes a while as well. If reading isn't your thing, then steer clear outta this game. The in-game tutorial determines whether or not you're fit for this game, hahaha. Try it, and see if you like it.
imo, EO is a dull game. The gameplay is rather weak overall. You go around mining asteroids or killing pirates till you make millions of ISK, then buying new parts for your ship, then talking in IRC chat channels, that's pretty much it. Tho there is a lot of technicalities attached to the game (there's a crazy amount of loot, you can really configure you ships in many ways, etc). The technical aspect of the game is very appealing, but the gameplay isn't.
This is why gamespot gave it a 6.6/10 (and clueless other reviewing gaming mags gave it a 90% or more), it's just not a game that offers much gameplay at all. It's ONLY about loot and minor pvp battles. The tutorial is nice, outter space and the ships looks cute, but that's about it.
Players and the community may try to improve the game, then again you could have fun in an free IRC chat room too. I don't play a game solely for the community personally, I need the game to stand on it's two feet first, I want it to have fantastic gameplay. This game doesn't deliver.
If you're dying for a sci fi game and want to waste money, I guess it can fill that hole tho.. or if you just love "having better stuff", in a mundane game.
It's not that bad, but it's certainly not that great a game either.. try the free trial, you'll see
I give it a 6/10 overall. It's playable and stuff, just not that great. I guess it might be ok if you're addicted to it
it means it's a game with only loot and a "large player community" as redeeming upsides.. 6.6/10 for gamespot = an "average" mmorpg.. not bad, but not great either
