Does anyone use 'Gaming' keyboards?

RanddRandd Member Posts: 409
The next couple of games i'm planning on playing both have more twitched based combat(TcoS and AoC). Was wondering if the round sort of interface of like a ZBoard(or the few other brands i saw)was more confortable. Hehe i have a hard time getting to the higher numbers using a wasd interface while aiming with the mouse.

I use a gaming keyboard tho its not the Zboard. I use a Logitech G15 gaming keyboard and G7 mouse. They are awesome.

I recently purchased a zboard online, it's still in the shipping process but when I get it I'm going to be using one... Just simplifies everything in a complicated way, which is how most gamers/geeks like it anyway. Easier key reference=faster reaction time=better playing ability.

I tried it on my friend's board and I didn't have any trouble switching keysets whatsoever, IMO it is a really cool feature.

I use a Zboard and i don't like it. I think the keys are very cheap.... when you type the plastic feel cheap. I can't wait to change... I've had a saitek before and that's what i'm gonna buy back... the saitek with the blue lights... even the letters are highlighted.

    Hope it helps

I agree I use the Saitek Eclipse and its the best keyboard I have ever used. The backlit keys makes it alot of easier to use in the dark. I DO recomend it highly.

That seems pretty nifty but I'm sure they will charge an exorbitant amount of money for it. I dont really look at my keyboard very often so the novelty would probably wear off pretty fast.

i have the same logitec setup as an earlier poster stated. Personally Zboards seem like a waste i think people should get used to normal keyboard layouts that way they wont be dependant on these novelty keybords. That optimus looks fancy but what game will you play that you need to make use of those pictures on the keys.

Nope, I use a MS Natural Pro.  Any other keyboard gives me cramp in the hand after long hours of use :P

I dont get whats so good about gaming keyboards, apart from that fact that they're expensive. I just use a cheap $20 keyboard and dont have any problems.

Oh my gosh, I just saw this topic (and I'm in the typing mood now)... Anywhot my bf has this keyboard:

    DX1 Input Keyboard ( Link Here )

Anyway it's cool but he doesn't let me use it.  You don't use it for typing obviously, but what you can do is basically program every key to do whatever you want and move them anywhere on the on the mat.  Basically just twist them on.

It works really good on games like guild wars and warcraft and fps games.  Spacing out the buttons to just the way you like them.

Problem is he paid a lot of money for it and then bought an extra set of keys so he could program more stuff with it.  But he loves it and wouldn't play without it.

If you scroll down to the bottom of this website you can get a better idea of what some people did with games like Guild Wars (that guy on this site even printed out a nice little picture for his).

That optimus keyboard looks hawt. Although I think the displays on each key would eat a tremendous amount of your PC's resources, but I may be wrong. I use a Logitech G15 for most games, and a Wolf King game pad for the occasional game that doesn't have customizable keys (I have a very strange left handed setup and I use the mouse with my left hand so WSAD is outta the question).

I like my keyboards simple, no need for lots of extra buttons - So i use the Saitek Eclipse keyboard. Perfect, good response on keys, very solid keyboard, and.. Very nice illuminated keys. It's a perfect keyboard, no matter if you play in total darkness, or a standard lit room.

my friend uses the zboard for the specific layouts it offers, but then he went bak to the old keyboard layout. and the zboard makes a loud typing noise, idk maybe its just his zboard thats loud.

i own a saitek eclipse as well and its rox. the keys are soft and quiet. like the previous posts, it has blue lights to see in the dark. you can also adjust the brightness of the light as well. i highly recommend this keyboard.

I'm telling you, if you have the moola you have to go with the DX1 Input Keyboard

BTW Please buy me one and ship it to me if you have extra money!

I just use a regular keyboard that I don't even remember buying I've used it so long. I know how to type so don't really need anything fancy. I would only get a new keyboard if I were building a LAN machine that I would be taking around. Otherwise, plain, ugly, and functional suits me just fine .

My friend does has a Saitek n52 gaming pad, and I think that is pretty cool. It replaces the keyboard and has a lot of programmable buttons. You can make every key do a string of macros for you. The problem is, he has a hard time remembering which button does what lol. I just use in game macros if they are available. Otherwise, I like to play the game myself.

Here is my favorite keyboard  that I've seen so far though.

Heh the mini-board with only 3 buttons is sold for "approx. 159.96 US$", the full keyboard will be way overpriced & the novelty would probably last for a short time.

That optimus keyboard quake4 setup looks straight pimp though :).  I don't personally think the keyboard is as important as the mouse(gotta get me one of those razr)... although i probably play more fps then alot of the people here.  Regular keyboard that doesn't give you arthritis is always good though .  Don't want that crap.  My 120wpm typing mom has it from prolonged use of keyboards without the wrist support.  Be aware of this is you're a hardcore.

I have 3 of the Nostromo52s listed earlier. They are bad ass.

Thanks for everyone's opinions. I was looking around on a few sites and a couple of keyboards that caught my attention, in the $30-40 range. I might just oreder one and give it a try(i've wasted more than 30-40 on games i've hated, lol) They both are very similar, a regular keyboard with an appreviated fps keyboard on the left end. If i was bright enough to figure out how to post pictures here i would do so but apparently i'm not A link to one i saw is www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823161019
