The fact that Tom Bombadil's house is in the game is enough to spark my interest alone!
Matrix Online is another story.  While an online persistent world version of the Matrix seems elementary, the dynamics of the universe present some serious issues.  First of all, who are the opponents (or mobs)?  Logically, one would think agents, but Neo is the only one who can really fight the agents, so does that dynamic change?  Also, I still have no idea how bullet time (certainly the most anticipated feature of ANY Matrix game) can successfully be implemented in a MMOG without a serious impact on gameplay.
Admittedly, I haven't read in-depth on TMO, so they may have it all figured out, but trying to wrap my mind around the concept of bullet time in a MMOG is too much for me.  Of course, I could be completely wrong. image

    Off topic ---

Was Tom Bombadil's an anomaly or a enigma? Personally I saw him as nothing more than a device used to further explain the ring. I believe Tom Bombadil was Tolkiens first written charter, and one his daughter enjoyed, hence why he made his way into LotR.

If you enjoyed the movie, you should read the books there really isn't any comparison. The books are better by great magintudes.

    ------

MOE is trying to do well, but they can not, unless they remove all book characters, image walking up to Gandalf in some time and having him say the same contrived lines over and over and over. (no fireworks today yound hobbits, no fireworks today young hobbits, no fireworks today young hobbits) This isn't to say MOE can't be a good game, but if it is good it'll have to be so for other reason than it's taking place in a Tolkienian Paradise.

I would think leveling in Matrix Online would be done in Zion's training computers, similar to what you see the first movie... no doubt a equally daunting task to convert this modern cyber-epic into a MMORPG. I'm sure they come up with "lesser" agents, and the movies you in the movies are the most powerfull ones... or some such to explain things.

Generally speaking all games based on movies have been poor ones. We'll see if there will be a exception to the rule.

I really was interested in MEO in the beginning, when the developers had the right attitude about it and were trying to make the game in the true light of Tolkien.  Now, after reading the boards and seeing all they had changed for the worse, I cannot see myself playing it.  It looks like it will be a disgrace to Tolkien.  They were on the right track with perma-death and the more controversial issues, but since the community haggled and argued their opinions on the boards, it seems the devs are looking and favoring the hardcore powergamers and not the roleplayers that were so looking forward to playing in a Middle Earth that looked and felt like it would truely resemble something Tolkien wrote about.  Now my focus is on Dark and Light, Everquest 2, UXO, and possibly World of Warcraft.  I am sorry about the way MEO is turning out, and I really hope they prove me wrong when it is released.  Matrix Online I know nothing about and I am not really interested in it, but I hope it does well for all of you out there who are looking forward to it.  The more MMORPGs we have that are great, the better it is for us (and the harder the choices become to choose which ones to play, hehe)!

Just want to clarify one thing.

MEO and Matrix Online are being produced by separate developer/publisher.

VU/Turbine holds the licence and distribution right for MEO while Ubisoft holds the licence for Matrix Online.

    Don't get confused.
