Originally posted by Vhaln The more solo content there is, the more people end up soloing, even people who prefer grouping. That may not seem to make sense, and in theory, you can say people who want to group have only themselves to blame if they don't group, but reality is a lot more complicated than that. Even when you can find a group in a solo-friendly game, it tends to suck compared to the game that's built for grouping. If a game doesn't push grouping, there are all sorts of reasons grouping doesn't work out as well as it does in games that do make it almost mandatory.
More solo content doesn't make people automatically solo.
Because the way mmorpg work the exp gained per hour (or money gained per hour) rating is important. People go solo because either it's the only way to get at least a little exp in the sparse time the have and this is why mmorpg should ALWAYS include solo contents(just look at what happend to DDO). Another reason for soloing is because this is either the fastes way to get the goal you want this could be considerd a design flaw sins mmorpg should stimulate social interaction but in most cases is just clever players finding ways to "work" game mechanics. Grouping should be stimulated in some way either by BETTER DROPS, FASTER WAY TO EXP IN GROUPS FOR ALL CLASSES, MORE MONEY DROP and BETTER QEUST EXPIERENCES.
They main reason that there suchs more focus on soloing by developers is easy. To get a descent group together in most mmorpg's cost about half an hour and to get a decent gain out of it it has to last for an hour as an minimal reqeurment. This for a lot of people this already is too much time so soloing is just a viable option. Look at WoW although there a lot lvl60 raiding players the main reason for its succes is that even casaul players can have a fun gamming experience withotuh having to invest atleast 1,5 hour of there time each time the play. Before WoW the main complaint from a lot of mature people was that when they played it took to much of there time because grouping was more or less obligated for getting to higher lvls.
