Honestly at this point, if you're only considering the two, I'd go with Warcraft. DAoC is an old game, and starting to show it with less and less people playing, and ever since the ToA expansion the game itself has seemed to decline as a whole. Wound up firing my old account a few months back, and most of the PvE levelling is confined to the new Task Dungeons so the huge world of Camelot goes largely unused (I miss the days of levelling with people in Camelot Hills .
WoW will have a large amount of people for you to play with, and although the game is far more simple and has way less options for character customization and playstyle, you will find a ton of new people to play with, and with the new expansion and the constant updates WoW is receiving, a lot of the kinks are slowing seeming to be worked out.
I played DAoC for about 3-4 years before I quit, I still think it's a superior game in many aspects. I also played WoW from day of release up until a few months ago when I quit and sold my account out of boredom.
I guess iin the end my advice would be to get the 14-day trials and test both games out. I'll always have a certain place in my heart for both of them
[EDIT] OK, forgot to mention PVP. If you are looking for the best PvP experience, DAoC has hands down the best system I've ever had the pleasure of playing! Even the PvP New Frontiers update a long while back which many seem to disagree with, it's still far and away better than the PvP system WoW currently offers. Check the DAoC website for the huge list of features that their PvP (They call it RvR) offers.

Like PvP? Go DaOC.
WoW 1-60 will be fun.
DaOC 1-50 will be boring as hell (except at 20-24, 35-39, 45-50 where you can go to active PvP areas).
Use the money to buy a new keyboard, I think your caps is broken.
Try the trials

DAoC is a much better game than WoW.
But DAoC is empty right now.
WOW is really fun until you realize its all sugar coating with no substance. At least not in comparison with many other MMOs.
If you want sucky PvP play WoW
If you want a lot of PvE then play WoW
If you want fun, then play DAOC.
could u plz take of some sec's 2 answer my poll? than you

I played both. I stil play DAoC but left WoW.
As advised by others, if you like PvE, then WoW is your game. If you like PvP, DAoC is your game.
WoW has a bigger community but DAoC has a very good one too. I would advise you to play in the "Classic Cluster" of DAoC. You will discover an average of 2000+ people in it all the time. Around 700 in your Realm. Not bad at all. Start playing Albion at Gareth and you will get groups and help in the low level.
DAoC is an old game with worst graphics than WoW. If you like graphics, go WoW. I think DAoC is much more complex than WoW. If you like diversity in your characters, for example, go DAoC. WoW is more simplier in that aspect. Another silly thing, for example, do you want a house? If you do, go DAoC. hehe You will understand me in time
Crafting system is much more friendly in WoW but both sucks (bah! crafting sucks in any game LOL).
PvP in DAoC beats totally WoW. PvE at DAoC is not bad at all but WoW is much better.
DAoC expansions are focus on PvP while WoW expansions are focus on PvE. At least, for the moment.
DAoC has a great Customer Support Service and "hears" the clients more than other games. Can't tell how is WoW in that aspect. Many will say I am wrong but the Classic servers are an example of it. Classic servers don't have ToA expansion neither the /level command. Players really complained about that both things. Mythic created Classic servers to fix that. Yes, they took time but they did it. Most companies never do it.
Both games will have continuity. Blizzard won't stop WoW and enither EA Mythic will stop DAoC (it's a money moker). The new incomings (Lotro, Vanguard, WAR) will drain players from both and... imho... will drain more from WoW. But both games will continue
EA just bought Mythic. Some people thinks that will ruin the game orthers don't. I just think this: EA is showing that wants Mythic to run the oeprations and just invest. If that continue to happen, then we will have a much better DAoC (Mythic just hired more developers for DAoC, and for the new coming WAR). Thinking EA didn't learn from their mistakes in the past games and start destroying Mythic, is like thinking a new management can come to Blizzard and destroy WoW. Just speculation and futurology For now, the only fact is that EA had put more money and that's never bad.
Leveling in both games is good. You don't need months of grinding (like in L2... yes I am a MMORPG addict LOL). If you play a couple of hours per day, you will be high lvl in both games in just a month and have a nice group of friends to play with.
As other people in this thread advised: grab the 14 days trial and test them.
Hmmm Am I forgeting anything? Oh well.. back to DAoC! LOL
I agree with the most... WoW gets boring after a while when i discovered there isnt much more to do in the game.. meanwhile Daoc has a real good RVR/PVP system..
But try the trials and see what u think..
I would go for Daoc since i love the pvp...
WOW, in my oppinion sucks but i did make lvl 41 so i did stay for a while
DAOC is awesome...pve isnt good atall but once u goto the BG its all worht it
I played WoW for a bit, quite a few months including some time in beta. it was alright i guess, but having played daoc 3 years, i found wow lacking a lot. you had lots of content there, but despite that, it felt very restricted, very limited. rolling an alt seemed a chore, treading the same ground again. Really didn't seem any different when you stepped back and looked at it all.
daoc though, it has to be said , has gone through some bad moves for the pve side. pvp is great, and pve WAS at launch. but now, /level combined with the amount who left with toa, it's pretty much killed pve. the instance task dungeons were the final nail in the coffin.
all depends what you want really. if you like pvp, and can put up with soloing or maybe, if you're real lucky, grouping in the same old dungeons for a couple of days, then daoc is a blast when you're through that.
if you don't mind a lack of any depth, and just want to group with a couple of people and smack monsters about, wow is simple fun, but if it's not your thing, it'll go stale on you very fast.
oh, and whoever said that wow is of a quality daoc can't achieve, perspective. graphics, not likely. interface? again not likely. pve? classic daoc would give it a good run, but as it is it caves to wow. pvp, well, no contest. wow gets spanked hard. wow isn't really a quality game to myself, as i like depth in a game, and customisation. there's no way you can say that wow is a be all and end all higher quality though, cause there's always someone that isn't going to feel the same.

If you're shy and all alone it will be tough.
WoW has millions of players but most are like immature 12 year olds...and the game is hallow without any end game, gets boring fast.
I agree with most of what people are saying in the fact that WOW is desently fun for PVE, as for me, well I played almost 2yrs of DAOC before quiting and going to WOW which only took me about 2 months before i was kinda bored. I am now officially today "Comeing back to Camelot" for the time being until Warhammer and LOTRO comes out. You never forget your first love and i do miss the PvP which is by far, if a poll was taken almost all MMO people, the best.
There is a problem in society these days. This problem is that most people are woeful pathetic when it comes to making decisions for themselves.
They are susceptible to advertising, marketing, and to a lemming herd mentality.
This is the only explanation I can come up with for the reason that WoW has 6 million subscribers.
Wake up! WoW isn't good. Just because you are told to like it, doesn't mean you should. Just because you are told that a war is righteous, you shouldn't believe it. Just because you are told that 2+2=5, you shouldn't follow the masses.
DAoC is a far superior game in all and every aspects, except for the fact that there is about 5.9 million less dunderheads playing.
DAoC provides better customer service, has better PvP, and the PvE is comparable. Graphicswise - which doesn't mean as much when it comes to gameplay - WoW is better.
So, choose wisely young one. Choose with your own mind and thoughts and what you think is best for yourself.

Well, here it is so you can make your own choice:
WOW Graphics: Cartoonish, but clean and colorful
DAOC Graphics: Drab and dated, but realistic. Very nice weapon and armor graphics
WOW Community: Lots of teens, but always folks around to group with.
DAOC Community: I think most of it's hiding out in the upper levels. A slowly dying game, IMO.
WOW Class System: Clean and basic (i.e., Warrior, Paladin, Priest, etc...)
DAOC Class System: Many different, but similar classes, a little convoluted IMO (i.e., Runecasters, Eldritches, et...)
WOW Combat: Fast and clean, very fun.
DAOC Combat: A little slower, but not much.
WOW Stats: Simple and sensible. No need to allocate stat points, though you do get "Talent Points" later for customization and these can be reallocated for a price (i.e., you cannot gimp yourself).
DAOC Stats: Too many useless stats. Play a warrior and Empathy and Intelligence are nearly useless to you. In fact, they could have gotten rid of two or three of DAOC's stats maybe. (Do we need Quickness and Dexterity, or just one? Can we choose one and call it "Agility"?)
WOW Spell Casting and Graphics: Colorful and well-thought out spell system.
DAOC Spell Casting and Graphics: Okay. Everything seems to be blue or green.
WOW Game World: Huge world with separate starting racial zones (village and nearby major city). Lots of dungeons and mysteries.
DAOC Game World: Divided among the three factions (Albion, Hybernia, and Midgard). Smaller, but more realistic. One major city in each and which are now nearly empty. Expansions have added more towns to stop and repair at.
WOW Loot System: Excellent and dynamic. Money divided evenly, more or less. Magic items are rolled for automatically. Non-magic items go to looter.
DAOC Loot System: Pretty good, especially for its day. Money divided evenly, more or less. Some items go randomly into party member's inventory, not necessarily to person who did actual looting.
WOW Downtime: Minimal
DAOC Downtime: Not as fast as WOW, but low. Maybe DAOC pioneered short downtime in these 3D MMORPG's.
WOW PVP: Team PVP (Horde vs. Alliance). Active on PVP servers, mostly consensual on Normal servers.
DAOC PVP: Team PVP in certain zones, PVE in most zones.
WOW's Future: 6 million and growing. This should be a strong game for years to come.
DAOC's Future: A slowly dying game, but one which will be fondly remembered.
The above are my opinions, of course.
dude to be quite honest WOW is more suited to Pve going in dungeons with friends and having fun farming for items etc, to me is boring as shit.
DAOC has great pve and is THE KING AND ORIGIONAL GANSTA of player versus player combat every game that will ever come out and have player versus player elements IS and has already been proven to copy DAOC
DAOC numbers have dwindeld a bit but its still better than wow...
