Spaceship mmorpgs versus fantasy mmorpgs(EvE fanboy attack :P )

Lol i wanna do my "cheap shot" at the EvE fanboys.

I really enjoyed playing EvE but i still think in the end it is in fact a flawed concept it just takes longer to realize it because everthing you do in EvE takes 10 thimes as much time to do.

So EvE 170k subribers and slowly but steadily growing. No other spaceship mmorpg worth mentioning. The whole spaceship mmorpg community playing EvE what els is there ?

Against WoW and other fantasy based mmorpg EXPLOSIVELY growing. Ok ok i be fair about it WoW just got 4 million kiddies to play that should be on my list for cheap shots aswell but he facts are facts . Before WoW in the combined mmorpg that where fantasy based maybe around 2 million(just counting the ones with an monthly fee) and now 7 million.

95% playing fantasy mmorpg's and 5% playing the only spaceship mmorpg around. Man if i was still playing EvE i would take my conclusion and realize that EvE maybe is uniqeu but if it where as great as the EvE fanboys claim there should be atleast 3 million people playing it. The EvE fanboys are just fanatic and have to much time on there hands because doing things EvE is sooooooooooo slow there's nothing beter to do then to overrated the game and post on these forums

What a silly thread to open up. I played Eve and its a well neat game. Not every game has to have millions of subscribers to call themself successfull. Eve is certainly not for everyone, it has a unique playstyle/gameplay like many other mmorpg's have unique playstyles/gameplay. Eve is very successfull in my eyes and gives people many our of enjoyment and that is all that counts. Simple as that.

Personally I think that whether you like EvE or not, I think it's great that there are niche games like it out there, if there were a lot more of them it would help the MMORPG genre greatly.

There only 2 things that are uniqeu about it. The fact that all players are on the same server and the way the skills are trained. The first thing looks great on paper but the fact is it takes so long to get from system to system you won't really meet most of the peeps anyway if it would lead into massive PvP with 3k+ players then it would be need but in the 6 months i played i never seen this happen. Just takes to long to get all peeps together and i dunno how EvE would preform with that many players in one spot. Second thing also looks good on paper but when you get to the higher skills and have to wait over a month for the spaceship and you already have done everything in your power to speed up the process (highest implants and very high learning skills) you realize that you have no reall infleunce on your character development and long time players will always have the edge over you. Amount of time playing or even how fanatic you play have 0 infleunce to the end result. SO in the end it's just a money farming and PvP ass much as you can game. Only way to get enjoyment out off the game is to focus on PvP all day and if your not one of the early starters and don't keep playing to switch skills at the right time your ALWAYS at a disadvantage. Yes it's an uniqeu system AND it's a really FUCKED UP system in my opninion. After 6 months of playing i'm still NO MATCH for any long time player just outclassed as hell. I think if you play a game for 6 months you should be able to really compete against anybody in game just on the level of skill. You can't even call EvE a skill based mmorpg because you don't learn a skill by using the skill you just learn

woah, were does all the hatred come from here? Like the poster above you said, its good that there are niche games for only a few people. We should have more of them, instead of trying to mass market eveything.

Peeps that play Eve and stay with Eve are happy, why can't you just accept that? I am happy with UO, I do still play every mmorpg that comes out because of general interest, but I stay with my mmorpg as well. Is it maybe because you can't find a mmorpg that you are just happy with? Are you maybe a tad bit jealous of peeps that have? I really do not understand where you are coming from.

Lol, i still have contact with a few EvE players i used to play with there not really happy the just don't have another game to turn to because there just not into character based mmorpg's. most of them only log onto eve when skill training needs to be set and do some PvPing in the weekends and there almost all running more then one account most of them because the wanted to get into researching but founded that it would take to long to do this on there main account. I'm also into character based mmorpg's so it was easy for me to switch they got nowhere to turn to. In de way EvE keeps people playing and that compared too normal mmorpg it's just one big SCAM. they promise that everybody can enojoy PvP not telling you have to play a whole freaking year to get to that point where you have a remote change against a long time player. By stretching the time needed to come to a competive skill set just by making it this so called "uniqeu" skill system it just takes most people 4 thimes as long to see it's no good. In a normal mmorpg they would find this out in a period on average of 3 months where in EvE it takes a year it's just that good of a scam. In a normal MMORPG you take at most 3 months to get to a level you can compete and find out if it's worthwhile staying in EvE this takes a year and then most stay because they don't want to admit to themselfs they let themselfs scammed for a whole year like my still playing EvE friends.

As for me not having a mmorpg to play. Sins i wanted to try shadowbane for a long time to see how there features really work out in reality and it has become free for play i actaully enjoying that game. It's not like EvE where i had fun the first 2 weeks figuring the game out then had something like oh hell everybody saying PvP is pretty good and i still think it is an very enjoyable way hhow EvE PvP works i have enjoyed EvE pvp a lot those time i actaully participated in larger scale battles but after 6 months i still got shot down by peeps in a 1v1 fight although old time veterans told me there was no way i could beter equip my ship and that in the fights i did against them i really showed skill. With all that skill i still got shot down ONLY because peeps i was up against just where longer time players not because of skill. So i left they game for what i find a GOOD reason the so called SKILL based system has NOTHING to do with SKILL.

Eve is just not for people that want to compete on eqaul basis because if they wanted that they started 3 years or so too late. When i started playing EvE i was like any EvE fanboy on these boards but i found out EvE is an empty promise not living up to the promises EvE fanboys like to set. As you said you must be  a happy going person in EvE if you have any competitive nature in you EvE is absolutly NO GOOD

    1) Its open PVP. Most people can't handle open PVP.

    2) Death has consequences. Most people dont want consequences.

    3) It cant be powerleveled. Most people want to level fast and get to "endgame."

    4) It doesn't entertain you. Its a sandbox game, the players entertain themselves.

    5) Its not cutesy. There are no elves or gnomes.

    6) It has a higher learning curve than any other title out there.

    7) And the biggest reason, most people don't even understand the CONCEPT of what Eve is. You don't see any content, its because the other players ARE the content. You don't advance by interacting with NPC's. You advance by interacting with other HUMANS. Your advancement is not skillpoints. Your advancement is in ISK. Money = Power

I think there's more market for spaceship related mmorpg's but it's not really getting of the ground because most mmorpg developer are focussing on the standard character based which they know there's a market for. To bad EA screwed up with E&B although i didn't really like the game because there was too little econimics in the game at least there was another spaceship oriented game. Also because of they fact you also was een character in E&B it made you feel as a person. I think if a game like E&B with more econimical feature would hit the mmorpg market it would have a good change of being largely more popular as EvE. Also in my experience there's a very large part of EvE players living out there strak trek fantasie in EvE and i really wonder how strak trek online is going to affect EvE player base.

I'd still be playing even... ALL DAY EVERY DAY if it had those kinda features.

That stuff is coming. Theres moon scans and moon mining so far.

0.0 is finally getting colonized. People are opening up neutral outposts for regular people to dock and live in 0.0

I think you would really enjoy the industrial side of the game.

Open PvP ??? sorry to my information 0.5 till 1.0 system you get shot on site if you attack another player and there .1 till .4 you have conseqeunces also open PvP means you can kill everybody anywhere in every fasion you see fitt i don't consider EvE an open PvP game

    2) Death has consequences. Most people dont want consequences.

Which conseqeunces are you talking about ?? So you have a clone that remembers everything and you have your ship lined up 5 thimes in case you get shot big deal conseqeunce are only big if you don't have the time to collect descent isk. The only reall conseqeunce death has you have in EvE is that your spending another 2 to 4  hours refitting the next spaceship. Whoot reall fun there :P

    3) It cant be powerleveled. Most people want to level fast and get to "endgame."

So you wait for months although you pay 15$ a month for it ??? this is just the fact why i find EvE a scam it's not a feature you have no infleunce whatsoever on the speed you learn its a SCAM to keep you playing longer and you fell for it

    4) It doesn't entertain you. Its a sandbox game, the players entertain themselves.
It could entertain me if by a remote change i would get on a competitve level in a reasonable amount of time but as i said before you can't really infleunce the learning time so old time players stay at a advantage no way your ever going to get on a competitve level with other players if you start now

    5) Its not cutesy. There are no elves or gnomes.
ELves and gnomes bore me anyway your point is ?

    6) It has a higher learning curve than any other title out there.
I have learned it and yes it has a steep learning curve. You think that is a feature ???? The could do ALOT making the game easier to get into but so far as i know they still got the same crappy starters qeust that does not really more then let you learn they absolute basics this could be improved alot

So what meaning got iSK anymore if you have enough of it to buy the spaceship you still need 1 months of learning to go trough before you even can fly it ?????? There is enough content ........ if you don't play to much EvE. at some point ISK gets totally meaningless because you have too much of it and nothing intresting to spend it on. SO you say iSK is the content ???? then i say the content gets meaningless at some point unless you restrain yourself from playing too much

I must say the industrial & economical side of the game is done extreemly well although none of the concept are new they done the right way. But again because off the fact your just waiting to get the skill only long time players reall benefit from that fact which is a shame and ennoyed they hell out of me personally

I dunno it will probably be skills again which need months of training. If these kinda features would be in and i able to used ehm in let say max 3 months MAYBE. if it would take 1 MONTHS i would jump at it for sure that would be great features

Oh for crying in a bucket if you dont like a game dont play it!!! I fail to grasp why people start such stupid bashing threads.  I dont like world of dumbcraft either but I dont start stupid threads like this.

thankyou for wasting 4 minutes of my time

    OP,

You are so goddam stupid it disgusts me, threads like this have been done so many times on this forum, and each one is stupider than the last. The topic has been discussed adequately so many times ive lost count, as has the retarded WoW vs EvE debate

Seriously people stop posting these retarded threads no one fucking cares anymore, its been done so many times just shut the fuck up please, and for the love of god dont answer these childish morons anymore.

heres a great thought, you should try it:

I DONT LIKE EVE, BUT ITS STILL A PRETTY GOOD GAME. For a lotta people out there.

No one cares about your dumbass opinion cos its just flamebait and its been done so many times.

FYI eve prolly does have the most harsh consequences as a result of death than any other mmo on the market at the moment.

For someone that played EvE your pretty thick, I figured this out from the few days I played it.

    RANT OVER. END TOPIC. FOREVER.

    O_o o_O

PAthetic you trant about somebody ranting. I didn't hid the fact it was a cheap shot. But your saying im an Dumbass by acting like a dumbass. As if this will ever going to be over on your saying so. This will neveer be over if people are promoting EvE for the wrong reasons and other people want to set things straight.

WoW versus Eve isn't worth debating there two different games peroid.

    And it more like

I LIKE EVE BUT THERE SKILL SYSTEM ISN'T A SKILL SYSTEM AND I DON"T THINK IT"S WORTH THE MONETY BECAUSE OF IT. For 5$ a month i would join instanly i just don't find it worth it 15$ for more then half of the time i just wait for skills in the game

I must say your right on the dead part just think it still was only ennoying because the only "conseqeunce" in general mend a lot of refitting withouth the exp lost it just doesn't feel as personall to me as it does in character based games

erm mate thats just when you lose a cheap ship.  Try working for an agent to gain enough loyalty points for a Faction Battleship (youl be there at least 3 weeks to a month) and since the battleship costs 1.6 billion  isk  (CNR) you arent going to fit cheap modules.  Then you lose the ship  trust me that realy hurts!!! .  Then you think OMFG 1 month of hard work just went down the drain

to ur post it is possable mate form a group of 4 - 6 cheap tech 1 frigs and u will easily pawn a very tough battleship just use good tactics

    Errr
    "Space ship MMO's"
    SWG: Once had 350k users
    Jumpgate
    Darkspace
    EVE
    Infinity (Soon)
There are a couple others, can't remember their names at the moment.

Comparing EVE to WoW is silly.  WoW has huge name recognition while EVE has none.  WoW is sold on shelves all over the world, EVE is only sold online.  EVE, despite the fact that the only places it is advertized are gamer sites, and typically MMORPG gamer sites, has grown steadily for the past 3 years and is growing faster every year.

Does WOW have more players?  Sure it does...

Oh, and EVE China is about to open with 200,000 subscribers... that would put EVE at 370,000 subscribers worldwide.  And god only knows how fast the china servers will grow.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Don't wait months. Get level 1 of what you want to use and go
use it. Keep training while you use it. You canl make yourself useful
very quickly if you work as part of a TEAM.

It could entertain me if by a remote change

i said before you can't really infleunce the learning time so old time
players stay at a advantage no way your ever going to get on a

Everybody started off a newb just like you. They didn't train offline for 3 years and one day login to push the "I Win" button.
There is no "I Win" button. Everybody starts off in a Rookieship just like you.

If anything joining late makes it easier, because you have the
resources and experience of others to draw on, thats why you have every
2 month newbie driving a Raven.

Back when the game first started having a cruiser was like WHOOOOOA.
Now people give away cruisers as gifts to newbs. Like here kid have a
    cruiser, have fun.

I got my first cruiser by mining fuckin Scordite for a week in a Bantam.

ELves and gnomes bore me anyway your point is ?

My point is that elves and gnomes are gay.

    I have learned it
No you haven't. You think the objective is to fly around and BBQ people 1 on 1.
You think the guy with level 5 gunnery presses F1-F8, and the guy
with level 4 gunnery loses. And you're complaining here because you're
the guy with level 4 gunnery.
So what happens if you have level 5 gunnery too? Its just luck
right? Just rolling the dice, press F1-F8 and its Russian Roullette to
see who wins. Thats what you think right?

So what meaning got iSK anymore if you have enough of it to buy the

    War is Economic/Industrial/Military/Political.

You make deals, you build stuff, you form alliances, you make friends,
you make enemies, you crush enemies, you help your friends, you hire
mercenaries, you buy blueprints, you transport them to where you build
your ships, you sell surplus merchandise to finance the war effort, you
sell discount to allies, you mine, you trade, you haul your cargo, you
put implants in your head, you get a jump clone, you conquer the
universe, you get kicked out of 0.0, you find yourself in a rookieship,
you rebuild your empire, you take revenge, you camp, you gank, you
ambush, you farm 5/10 complexes for more money, you buy another set of
implants, you mine Omber for 9 hours straight, you read the Eve boards
on your laptop while taking a shit, you Roleplay with Ushra'Khan and
CVA, you surf porn while waiting for your Freighter to dock, you vow to
hire some other shmuck to move your goods next time, you shop around
for a better corp or a better alliance, you make more friends, you
create your own corp, you hire newbs, you pay them slave wages to mine,
you drive your enemies before you, you crush them and laugh as you hear
the screaming of their women, you yell YARRR as you slap the living
dogshit out of some miner in his first Osprey mining in .4, you make
your first FRAPS movie starring yourself, you get teamspeak and get to
talk to other psychos like yourself from all over the planet, you find out that
the person who owned you last week is a middle age mortgage banker from England, you got owned by an old guy who wathces golf in his underwear.

And while all this shit is going on, your skills are training.

Don't worry about the skills. Worry about the other shit.

erm mate thats just when you lose a cheap ship.

THey reall bitch is that i needed about months(dunno exact number anymore at least 2 months worth of training more skills) to train to fly a faction battleship already had about 7 billion isk at that time and so high faction i could get that battleship in under 2 weeks. But whats the point of all this waiting on skills ?

6 peeps defeating 1 isn't tatics. if it needed 6 people to bring down 1 person in a character based mmorpg everybody would scream NERF!!!! if you call that tatics you don't understand the meaning of the word tatic. Tatics are when you bring down a bigger number of people with a smaller number of people.

My eyes bleed as I see more and more stupid EvE threads. I'm not against EvE in anyway, but could this thread go to the EvE forum?
