between game play and community was it similar to the former pre CU SWG that so many people long for?

For about 30-40 levels, yes. Then you start to realize that its leading towards nothing...at all. Unlike SWG, even now, there is nothing to do in WoW once you hit 60 except raid raid raid raid raid, for gear that isnt really any better than the "previous tier". In other words, its a race to see who can look the stupidiest.

Wow is nothing like pre-cu. It's based off a completely different design. Well done, entertaining, polished...

But there's a threshold of boredom that sets in. For me, it was a few hours into the trial.

Ultimately, it's a grinding game. From leveling, then up to items, pvp, faction, etc. But grind there, unlike in NGE, has meaning. Grind long enough, and you'll beat all that aren't so far yet.

The downside is, since there's so many that have played for long, you'll start at bottom.

Apparently, average player sticks with WoW for 6-9 months. So that should give you an indicator of how much content there is.

Tried it, didn't like it-was just another boring-ass grind game.

    lol, no!

SWG NGE is much better than WOW. WOW offers a very dumbed down version of other Fantasy games, with bad PvP, and a horrible community. NGE offers a better atmosphere, better professions, better PvP, and a better community. Downside is the population is low.

But if you've never tried WOW, I would give it a shot. There's nothing more annoying than wandering how something is that you've never tried, because someone else said not to.

Its decent for about 2-4 months, but then you realize that EVERY SINGLE aspect of the game is a grind.

Leveling - Self explanatory, this is a grind in every game.
PvP - No purpose or meaning to the PvP in WoW. The only reason people PvP is for honor to get little titles and "special" gear. Battlegrounds hold no roleplaying value, and world PvP is laughable on its best day.
Crafting - Pathetic. About 1 out of every 20 craftable items are usefull/worth something. There is so much grind involved, you need a group just to train enchanting past 220.
Travel - Walking is slow, griffon rides are slow, mounts are slow. It takes forever to get anywhere, no matter where it is. This adds a speck of realism to the game, but you forget all about that when you are leveling 7 zones away from a Auction House and full of loot.

Yeah I played WOW for quite a few months.     Its great for levels 1-59, but once you hit 60 you pretty much have to give up your life so you can raid.

The best thing is the lack of bugs in the game.   They are few and far between, and I would be hard pressed to actually name one off the top of my head.

PVP is fun at first, but quickly turns into a grind, especially since its gear based, not skill based, so being a newbie you will get killed alot.  At least untill you get some decent stuff.

There are free trials available that let you try for a week or two (up to level 20 only).   I would do that before you spend any money.

Alot of old SWG players play wow. Alot that quit at CU are still playing WoW.

Its not that bad... theres alot of stuff you can do in wow. It has plenty of instances plus you have pvp Battlegrounds which are nice. Sure it gets boring but so does the NGE.

WoW is better then EQ2 imo. Leveling is easier.

I don't think i was ever bored with SWG pre cu. Majority of my time was spent grinding my jedi. Then i would kill jedi with my BH. Kill krayts with my tk/doc then build weapons with my weaponsmith. I guess very repetive but i'm a Star Wars junky and i use to enjoy it alot

I have been playing EVE Online for a few months now and I have heard that a few SWG explayers migrated, but that is mainly because EVE is one of the very few sci-fi mmos currently out there. but it is a blast to play.

I will miss SWG for the space/ground gameplay, but I was a nurtral crafter.......need more be said on why I quit.

I could never get into EVE. Did the trial about eight times, but its too detatched for me.

As for WoW. It's an okay game but I have no taste for fantasy aside from the Elder Scrolls video game series and the Lord of the Rings films.

Played World of Warcrap since the day spawned from hell frozen over and I quit last month. I played SWG during that time, up until the NGE happened and two weeks into the horror that is SOE's hideous experiment gone wrong.

I played until I had two 60s, a 57, and a collection of 35s... I can say that WoW is nothing to behold, it's just all the crap that I didn't like in the other MMORPGs combined into one. First 60, I hoped the game had more to it, so I levelled another toon, still the same, tried another and saw it going the same way, and my 35s were there just for smithing / enchanting / ect. while my mains had engineering combined with some resource harvesting skill.

You do not want to play Warcrap, it will only make you want pre-NGE/CU SWG even more.

Of course I did since so many plays it.

The experience can be compared to seeing my favourite MMORPG of all time being turned into a "NGE"...

Shortly said: WoW sux to me, big time. If you've had SWG as your first MMORPG you get spoiled.

No I didn't feel the need to try WoW. It's a style of game that just doesn't intrest me and pretty much what the NGE tried to copy badly.

Wow is a good game. That doesn't mean its a good substitute for SWG. They are *NOTHING* alike.

WoW , Muahaha , Its not like Star Wars Galaxies , since the CU and the NGE Star Wars Galaxies is not like Star Wars Galaxies.

Since SOE forced me to play this competative product I am happy to say its alot better then  compared to EQ1  (and EQ2)  which Blizzard used as a template and built off the mistakes of Everques to make it a better game.

Odd, I just made this post in another forum:

I re-upped with WoW to do 'something different' for a month or so.

There was my toon, parked up in Darkshore where I'd left him. The place
was deserted, when I logged off from WoW ~6 months ago it was jumping.
So I figured it was just a bit of client lag and waited for the crowds
    to appear...

Then I did a /who and there was me, a couple of lowbies and, uhm...
that was it. I couldn't for the life of me remember what I'd been doing
when I played last so decided to head back to the newbie yards and
    refamiliarise myself with stuff.

Still haven't made it back, lol. Totally forgot I could take a
ship, can't find a gryphon, have died so often that it's not even worth
counting anymore and am now stumbling around one of the dwarf
    settlements.

Well, when I say stumbling around, I got my kit repaired, logged out in the bar.

Did try starting a fresh toon but, meh, it's just not for me anymore.

Yeah, nothing to do on 60, just repeting the same things over and over again.

    Besides its a drop-eq-based-game.

no economy, crafting sucks, very small game world.

Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.

I've given up trying to understand why I still play Wow, it has nothing of what i loved in pre-cu ( except my friends ) but it's a good game to pick up and play for a few hours and you always have the option of raiding hard core if that's your thing. It's just a pretty, shiny game.

    For the Horde!

Depends on what kind of player you were.

If you like quests and grinding then WoW will be fun.

If you're a loot whore then you'll like WoW.

If you liked the Vet or DWB then WoW has some really nice instances you'll enjoy.

If you stood around theed and dueled everyone then you'll like WoW.

If you liked to attack player towns overt and force the townsfolk to accept that you are on thier land and there is nothing they can do about it (except prevent you from using the shuttle )- WoW is for you.

If you hate RPGs then you'll like WoW (even on a RP server very few RP)

WoW is not a crafting game, most of what you can make is garbage and the better items components are hard to come by.  This is where being a loot whore comes in.

It takes a very long time to level in WoW and you will be poor most of the time.  Try all the professions before you pick one.  Try both sides before choosing.  Try different servers to get a feel of the people you'll be playing with.  If you don't wanna hear the garbage kids talk these days try to find a RP server.  Unlike SWG - WoW is a level based game and you got to except that you wont be uberleet for a few months.
