So was it me or did everyone agree Archlord was shit?

Well I downloaded the closed beta of archlord from fileplanet expecting good things. I set graphics to 1600x1200 and turn everything up, then i start the game. First i go to make my character, first thing i notice is that its very restrictive. If i wanna be a mage I HAVE to be a female, if I want to play as the elves once again, I HAVE to be female. Turn out men can only be knights and archers, thats right guys we just arent cut out for anything else apparently. Oh and the entire elf race is female which kinda makes you wonder where there babies come from. Well after getting over this and making it in game I look around. Hmmm... I think to myself, these graphics sure arent very good. Then i try moving. Big mistake, turns out my walking animation is glitched so i glide across the ground. As I walk around a bit i see it is a pretty common problem. So I go out of town since I didnt see anything else to do and i fight some wurms. Ding level 2 pretty quick. I head back into town and this time i find the guy who gives out the first quests. So I bang out a few quests hit level 3 and come back to town for another quest. I should note that throughout this whole time combat is very glitchy; I have no attack animation so I kind of stand there and see the other guy get hurt and my guy just stands there. Apparently I use psychic attack....
And before you say anything, yes I understand this is beta and there will be glitches.
So I found the combat system to be very boring, gliding around the landscape I found the entire game to be boring in fact. Back to the quest though, I'm told I have to run and talk to a guard about something. So I go to where the guards are at the gate and none of them seem to be the one. I go west where he is supposed to be and whaddya know I find nothing. Well not nothing, on the way there are more lost and randomly roaming players like me. At this point I thought about it and realized
-the graphics arent good, but not bad.
-the gameplay is glitchy and awful boring.
-Im really not having fun.
-Customization is extremely limited.
-Why the hell am I playing it again?
So I quit and immediately uninstall. So after a very boring unentertaining gameplay session I consider the game garbage and won't ever play it again. I go to the hype page and found another person who had left a comment agreeing with my sentiments. So I leave my comment and move on to better games (FEAR multiplayer) One last note is that the music for this game is very good, i thought it was the best part in fact.

The quests are the same ol' "go kill 5 spiders then return to me" the quest givers even have ! and ? over their heads just like WoW does.
Total Korean crap, IMO.
I agree the game was very disappointing. It should be called "Delivery Boy King" with all the errand boy quests you do at the beginning. And all the NPCs start a conversation like this "Hey you are a familiar face". I gave it a good 10 hours but found it boring. It just seemed to lack a meaningful connection of the player to the world. It might be my tastes, I never got into Lineage 2 type games.
You can customize your characters look more in-game as long as your not an orc.
It was just RFonline,lineage 2 or anyother asain crappy mmorpg.
What gets me is asian markets love role playing, so why don't they like character customisation?

I dont understand something you complain about which is that quests and quest system is exactly like wow's yet its another stupid typical korean game? That doesnt make much sense to me.
Anyway im not an Archlord fan boy and wont be getting the game unless they remove the PayPLUS.
I cant shake the feeling im paying to play what should be a free to play game. And then being asked to pay for the stupid items that most free to play games would sell me ON TOP of a monthly fee. That is just ridiculous.
You get to pay 10 bucks a month for the grind of a free to play game and are asked to pay extra on top of that just so you can escape the grind and get some cool potions for pvp???? Sigh.
If this game had a basic monthly fee it would be 100000 times better.
I just hope they get rid of payPLUS and reduce the grind.
Make the game cost 15 dollars a month and make it worth the price is that so much to ask?

You can rate the interface ang graphics in 20 seconds.
The controlls and animations in another 20 seconds.
The fighting and quests in 5 minutes (with the walking).

Not sure I would word it that way but.. that is pretty much it.
I saw the NDA was lifted on this and CodeMasters mailed me a key. I don't think I signed up for this even but they spam me non stop since Dragon Empires or whatever that game was they cancelled.
This reminded me enough of RF Online (yes there are differences but overall..) that I really just didn't even want to look far.
I've never played Lineage 2 but the screenshots look better than this.
Actually what bothered me is.. the game felt like an alpha to me. More than a beta and as I understood it this game has been live in korea (asia whatever) for a while. Of course RF Online was the same.
Dunno but that is just how it stuck me.
Made me wonder why the game was so rough...
It is just another Korean grindfest. It reminds me exactly of L2, but at least L2 lets you choose the sex of your character on any class. Right there that turned me off. The quests were pretty boring also.
I felt the graphics were pretty good though, but after playing 3 classes to level 8 and pretty much falling asleep after that, I put this one down and now await the next big game.
btw,customization increases the more you level. there is an npc in town for that.
but you probably didn't know that in the 30 minutes you played.

Well...it's not bad for a Korean game mind you, but that's like saying getting stabbed with a sword is better than getting stabbed with a spoon because death comes quicker with the sword.

some unexpirienced mmorpg players probably need to go the hard way...np they will learn from it and i hope their knowledge improve about the asian/korean mmorpg market and their traditional style/game content.
NCSOFT = Homedepot of Korean grindfest games. Seriously I've never seen, heard or played a decent Korean MMORPG ever ! All the game play revovles around grinding untill your eyes bleed. Questing usually has very little story or effort put into it to make the game fun.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

question? oh yes, korean mmorpg's completely suck at questiong. I mean, don't they know we should go kill 20 wolves in WoW, or get 10 apples in Everquest 2? I mean, we should really go clear the same buildings over and over again in City of Heroes/Villains and The Matrix Online [/sarcasm]

As M1sf1t said, you obviously don't understand the meaning of gameplay and the things around that which make or break the game. I suggest you go play some classics and find that part out cuzz you seem to have missed out on something my friend.
I was gonna Betatest Archlord just because it had orcs and stuff ... but hearing all this ... haha Im just gonna forward this thread to codemasters in an email to show them that they're way off with their crap.

Sure, as soon as you can find a classic that found a solution to downtime, as soon as you found a classic that has enormous castle sieges with litterly hundreds of people, as soon as you found a game that has clan politics that are just as intresting as Archlords, Lineage's, and Lineage 2's, let me know. trust me, you won't find them. who decides what makes or break the game. you? I think not. diffrent people look for diffrent things in mmorpg's. Archlord is not for everybody.

yes, lets all jump on bandwagon and no longer play the game ourself, but listen to a few people who played the game for 1~3 days. lets just follow all negativity on this site. if we do this, then we might as well quit mmo gaming all together, because I honnestly can't name ONE mmo that has not been bashed to oblivion on this site.

As far as I can see .. you're pretty much standing on your own here my friend. And the reason why people join the MMORPG community is to see what a game is like without having to download it, you don't seem to understand the system
Well I forwarded this thread to CM and I'm pretty sure they'll ATLEAST remove their PLUS shop if they wanna have 500 subs at max
