3 years ago, one day  after work I went into a game store and I saw the box  '' Star Wars Galaxies".
I bought it cause I thought it was a shooter or some action based SW game hehehe.
    (not even I installed it)
When I realized it was a mmo ........... I got upset lol and put away the game.
2 months after this ,I was at home and looking for my lost wedding ring hehe I found Star Wars Galaxies Box in the wardrove. I took the box,and I dont know why I stood looking at it for some time because some words atracted my attention ,those words said I could live my own SW experience.
    I smoked a ciggy,and I installed it.
'' This was the best thing I could do'''
After 1 week I was in love with that game. I didnt miss action games. I loved the social aspect of the game.
I didnt  want to pvp,I felt like in other world ,it was completely different to what I had experienced before in any game.it was great. Suddenly I hated the games like Quake etc etc and just wanted to play SWG.
I made lots of friends; Some of them I met them in real life; I remember looking at my watch at work looking forward to go home and play SWG cause I had arranged to meet my guild to go to the nightsisters cave.
    Hell..How I miss those times.
Whe NGE hit, I left cause as many of you have said there was no place for us in game.
Now  after a few months in City of Heroes I dont play any games any more.
When I come from work, after a hard day coding vs Oracle ,I just look in internet hoping some day I will see a post about PreCu or Cu coming Back or the developers and Smed being fired.
And after that I play with my cat hehe.
    Im happy 3 years ago I bought that box by error;
    /Bow to you all

I feel very much like you do.  I feel like I stumbled across the game  by accident, and then three years later was tossed out on my rear.....and yet i keep hanging on to some thread of hope/desperation.......

Im with you, at 39 swg was relaxing and i loved crafting.I went out and did the social stuff with friends too, all it did for me was  remind me why I quit going out in the first place.  I went months after the CU trying out games, start-stop-hated and so on. Missed my friends online, most of us vanished, some went to wow and other games.

But i hate to say it, I started playing lineage2, hated it at first, hard game to figure out, but after a few months of not giving up I figuring out that this game is not going to be easy to master, so I just gave up on being top level real fast ( Im not a fantasy game player) But truth be told, Im really having fun in this one. Several swg vets are ingame, our guild is growing in power, and doing the castle sieges are a blast!

Crating is not easy in this game! I thought getting avian meat in swg was a pain, L2 makes that look easy.

I guess what im trying to say is-- I thought i was done playing mmo's after swg, I guess I just had to take some  time off before i started a new one. The only thing I miss about swg was the age of the general player, it was an older player base. You don't see that much in mmo's.

Peace from my old toons Toothlessviper, Poizen, and Malice  may they rest in peace and good memories.

ps.  You know the best part, I've pulled some old friends out of the NGE and they are now in L2 with me

One of the common threads I have seen in discussions about why people miss SWG has to do with friends met in the game.  I am curious about this, with respect to the social cost of SWG.

If anyone wants to answer, do you think that the freinds you made during the time we played are the main reason you miss SWG so much, or did it have to do with another aspect of the game?  While I certainly miss people I met, I personally cannot say with certainty that this factor alone is the reason I miss the game so much.

If missing friends is the more important reason, what about these friendships was it that causes you to miss it so much?  Was it the way you could interact with their avatars?  Was it common interests?  Was it the safety factor of mmorpg social interaction?  Combination of these?

If it was the social interaction that was special, why then allow the CU or NGE to break it up?  Was a lot of the social interaction based on the non-combat professions, and the changes to those professions caused a sense of being limited, or hindered?  Was it becasue these professions were important to you, even if you didn't play one?  If they kept the NGE, but brought back an equal level of importance to these professions, would that be enough to return and enjoy yourself?

Maybe these questions will trigger some thinking, and hopefully an "aha!" moment.

All the subsequent versions just trashed the game and its intricacies that no compromise was possible....

Maybe these questions will trigger some thinking, and hopefully an "aha!" moment.            I certainly hope so.......

    Excellent questions all....

Star Wars Galaxies was my second MMO after EQ, but it became a second life over time. It was not 'just a game' in my eyes, it was possibly the most engaging social experience of my life outside of high school.

My experience with the NGE is possibly too much like those that you guys have had, so I wont bother you with the repeated explanations. It's a little too emotionally deep for me, anyway; I don't want to make an already crummy day even worse by bringing up rather... sad... memories.

Sad because I will never meet those that made the experiences memorable ever again. I only wish the in-game email wasn't down that fateful day.

Well if you do, come to erica server, we will hook you up with gear and stuff, and a guild with vent.. one thing, the game feels empty for the first 15 to 20 levels. after that you will see tons of people. We are working on our crafters and buffers right now, our guild is working together to craft stuff for everyone.  This game takes time, its not grind to top level in 4 days, its one of the things i like about it.  my toons names are poizen, ailli, bgmac. send a mail or pm to any of them and I'll get you started, if you do check it out.

One last thing. You will love  the graphics, this game is done really well! it's stunning. peace pv......
