even though its just gonna be another GW type, so i guess a lot of people wont think of it as mmorpg. Well, an RPG game doesnt have to be mmo to be good. Too bad not a lot of people in this forums have the right pc specs to even play Oblivion....
Thing is, Oblivion, is the best RPG i have ever played (well, one of the best) and it doesnt have multiplayer... even i would be amazed if even they just let up to 4 players play simultaneously. But even though, i still love it.
That is cool... apparently we feel the same about PvP. I guess we will have to wait and see how it goes at launch, but if they don't have a huge change of plans, you should be able to play the entire game without any PvP... certainly without any noncosentual PvP.
The giant epic battles they talk about are mainly filled by NPCs, on both sides. You can build a city with walls and towers to defend the soft structures. The different prestige classes all have some kind of guild benefit, and can generally access one type of crafting, and the structures associated with it. Commanders can build barracks that spawn NPC soldiers and craft weapons, masters can build stables and craft armor, lords can build towers that automatically defend the city... etc. It's important to not that this is a second profession, on top of and totally separate from your combat class, and you guild city can only be built in designated PvE only areas. This lets players who aren't crazy about PvP still play an important role in their guild.
Here are a few Dev quotes on PvP...
I've always been of the opinion that PvP should be voluntary, fun and available for everyone in an online game. Some players prefer to PvP all the time, others never. The majority of players, though, are in between these two extremes. Our goal is to create a system where you can PvP with your main character when you want to, without any permanent penalties. There won't be dedicated PvP servers in Conan. PvP will be available to your character if you want to participate -- or you could shy away altogether.

I believe they have reconsidered the idea of open PvP servers since that first quote was made. Here is some more info on that one..
This (editor: unwanted fights agains another player) would only be possible on a PvP server or in a PvP siege area. Given you are not a PvP player there would be no reason for you to CHOOSE to go there. So no it won't be an issue. Even on said PvP servers griefing behavior will have consequences.

PvP is consensual. Our aim is that you will never be killed unless you want to participate. PvP should be fun and exciting, not filled with griefers and exploiters. In the darkness of Hyboria, though, and its hidden alleys and grim battlefields everything should be seen as a legal tactic to crush your enemy!

This quote actually addresses the concern about PvP rewards, and an imbalance that could occur between PvP and non PvP players. Since the PvP feats that you unlock will only be available in PvP combat, you won't be any less effective in PvE than a hardcore PvP player who has all 20 PvP levels under his belt.
In the outside world, however, players will find that things are very different. That's because every player will, in effect, be two different characters. Players will have two different level and experience point totals that track PvE and PvP experience. Combat moves and behaviors will be different in PvP fights, and damage output will be modified to make fights between players last longer and be more even. There will even be separate equipment tables for PvP and PvE weapons and armor. While no weapon will ever be completely ineffective, it goes a long way toward reducing the chronic problem of PvP fights being based on eies.

I apologize for the brief thread hijack... I'd just hate to see you miss out on what I believe will be a PvE paradise on a misconception about the game :0) More AoC Dev qoutes can be found HERE.
SWG2 developed by Bioware... lol I know it won't happen, but I can wish!
Huxley for games said to be in development. I know the company developing it can't pull it off, but a REALLY good SciFi MMOFPS/RPG would be sweet. In fact, I don't believe Huxley will ever be released, since they are currently developing like 3 other MMOs. lol
All other games look like complete tripe. But I think I'm just bitter because they are all fantasy when I want SciFi.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up... I assume you meant your reply to me eventhough you quoted someone else's totally unrelated post. Doh... I actually do that all the time, but I usually catch it before I hit submit. My team forums have all the buttons for reply and quote etc. below the post, instead of on top.
AOC will be the next great game, while it wont have the numbers of WOW (thank god) it will deliever the quality that many of us look for. Anarchy Online gave us a glimpse of what Funcom can do, AOC will give us the full view. It will be a monster of a game.

None of the upcoming games really interest me. I hope Darkfall lives up to the hype... and I really hope WAR does too. I hope Simutronics can do in the MMO genre what they did in the text based RPG genre.....
But recent releases have jaded me. I don't expect much from the Genre anymore. It has been stagnant for years.

Head and shoulders beyond the others. Darkfall looks good... but well, my faith in it ever being released isn't too high. AoC just isn't catching my interest yet for some reason, seems to be quite popular tho. Might have to take another look at it. *shrug* I've been interested in Warhammer since I heard it was being worked on. Hopefully it takes what WoW did right, and adds some... pvp with a point.

Yeah me too, I have hopes but no real exceitement or expectationts. Even the cooler games like AoC look like they will just devovle into raid fests or whatever. 50% of them promise to have the same old one-dimensional gameplay too. Meh.
So many of these games are such fake worlds that almost might as well not even be 3D and yet that is what they sell; a world. I think only Planetside and Neocron have items that can bounce off walls or physics like Auto Assault. I'm afraid most of it will be the same old hollow and lazy stuff. I guess I can't blame them, MMO customers rarely reward the game makers for doing any thing else.
Although I'll settle for an EMU of some game that once was...
SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011

MMO wise Age of Conan & Star Trek Online.
Other then that NWN2
Only thing I wish AoC would of done was have 1 server to rule them all. Or at least 2 (EU & USA servers).

most of the time, stuff that gets converted from 1 format to another sucks hard.
like games to movies or movies to games. sure, there's a few exceptions but for the most part, thats how it goes.
