a great new version of what?

    That is the question.

They do not go out of their way to clearly state what?  With the hstory of this game, even a half-minded individual would know to be clear about a statement like this.

This makes me think that either

    1) It is a new version of the game.  Pre-CU, Cu and NGE all being different versions of the game.

    2)  SOE is half-minded.

Ugghh.. I think I know which of the two it is.

Although i pray that your wrong, this makes some sense.  So many complain about the difference between the trial and the game, that this is possible.  But then again, when people leave that station is when they get pissed so it may keep them from being able to sucker more flies into the trap.  But still your answer makes some sense....

    Why disable the trial then.

It's not like masses of players wait on the trial download page for news...

If that is what happened, then maybe they had to disable it while they added in the ability to leave teh station?   I dont  know, but we know they arent capable of doing anything intricate without screwing up the whole game.   Again, I pray that it is big news....but with our luck it just what obraik said.

The more I think about it, the more I disagree with myself...LOL.....If they were just adding in auto target and a few features, why disable it...couldnt that be patched in overnight?   Even including the ground game could be patched in easily, couldnt it?

Ok, back to jubilation.....Pre Cu here we come...WOOT !!!111!!!!

Come on, its called positive energy.....

    yep

IMO - that would be considered a patch, not a version.

    IMPORTANT QUESTION HERE

Will they be done with the xpertise by the time Complete comes out?  Maybe we are assuming the wrong thing about Star Wars Galaxies: Complete.

is this a good thing or a bad thing?? the 10 day trail is gone!! ... new version of SWG is comeing out.. is this a good thing or a bad thing?

    Hi,

Good catch. When I saw this I have to admit that I was skeptical, but then when I when to their main site and click to skip the intro movie I saw the samething. I find this very interesting not only because of the site but what the SOE VPs have said about the NGE being a mistake [http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=10830 ], and the most recent rumors. It very interesting and makes me wonder what is going to happen. Could this mean per-cu SWg or a hybrid new system? I know one thing this forum site is probably going to be getting real hot [active] real soon...lol.

    IMO,

    Tauceti

    Geez, the article...

Something has happened at SOE, and something big.

You just don't come and flat out admit failure like that. But come to think of it, things did change.

NGE, for better or worse, has seen more attention than during entire lifespan of the game.

Mentioning new development practices, or at least attempting them, including the prototyping of DC comics, etc. These changes aren't about making a game, but about a cultural shift.

Then again, it could be just another PR stunt. Though this time, I don't think it is.

Bingo, I think that's what's keeping so many Refugees here.

I /agree with Rekrul, if they're just implementing a new version of the trial there is no reason to disable the current trial until the new version is done.  Of course, $OE always make the most questionable move possible.....

BTW - Blazin, just wanted to thank you again for getting rid of that red font - much nicer to read your comments now, I appreciate the move.

sorry but you cant be more wrong.

    1) auto attack is just a toggle under the options, why revamp the whole free trial for an option under the options menu
    2) only 4 of the expertises will have been completed up to this point
    3) i was under the impression expertise began at lvl 20...so how does this affect trial accounts? i wanna see you get to level 20 on the station.

Pass hate there is a despair which is divided into many type of despair, the first one is a furious, then a despair, then a gloomy despair.  Pass that gloomy despair there is total indifference, you become jagged and don't care anymore.

Pass indifference you become a jedi.

Don't you remember the huge problems auto-aim, lock-on-target, and auto-fire caused on the trial? Maybe the problems weren't easily fixable and they were receiving too many complaints about it, so they shut it down until they could get it fixed and also have the trial expand to the real SWG as well.

You start getting expertise points at lvl 10 and it is very easy to get level 10 on the station.

Voice overs and instructions on how to use it don't exist though.  It was also causing the trial to crash but they may have fixed that by now.

Espertise starts at level 10, the intended max level of the trial.

yeah sorry just reread the notes. but even at 10 you will get 1 expertise? no they would shut it down due to just that.

and in regards to your voice over problem. that would be a patch. i dont see them shutting swg down for a time to fix the GLARING bugs

Or maybe - it is the release of a Pre-Cu version with all the expansions, and quests added.

If they released classic servers - the biggest changes would have to be made to the trial.

They are releasing a new system with "Complete".

    Bet on it.

Wasn't the trial screwed up? As in when you opened your character sheet you ctd'd ?

I really don't see how anyone can think this is a new version of the game .Why keep a bugged out nonworking trial available ? How in anyway is that going to bring in new customers?

The trail was screwed up but as Obraik indicates some of the worst were addressed.  It's an $OE product so yeah there are still some bugs, that's pretty much unavoidable.

The trial wasn't "nonworking" - it was flawed in some particular ways but patching could fix it, no need to pull the whole trial.  That action will bring in fewer customers than a mildly-bugged trial.

    1) shutdown.

There is no real reason why they should stop the trial. Ever. They are free, they show the game, why take them down? Why not let it run until it's replaced.

You never do anything like that since SWG is not running any kind of limited trials, but a free for all, especially zoned area trial. There is no reason for this.

Unless, if you know, the game will no longer exist within 1 + 1 months, and asking people to subscribe would be deceitful. 1 + 1 is 1 free month that comes with subscription.

    2) pre-cu? CU? UCLA? YMCA?

Pointless guesses. All of them "sucked", all of them had issues, regardless of everything, neither is a silver bullet. Neither would restore the product without 1+ years of dedicated work.

    3) New version

Of a live game? Under same publisher, with all the silence? No E3 hype?

    4) NGE^2

    Nope. Failed.

    5) ???

Anything goes here. But with SOE, it'll likely be option 7.

Still, it's a little too quiet, but the option 1) to me seems rather too convenient and way too fitting.

    Hi,

    1. A likely possibilty

    2. I think most here and everywhere [ lol ] would disagree with your opinon of the Pre-CU. Did it have issue yes, but most MMORPG do to some degree. Most of which could have easily been dealt with if they had used their resources and development team more wisely.

    3. Possible, but not likely. Of course they could have had a small group working on this and not want it to be made public for fear of meeting expectations.

    4. Agreed, but with these guys they could think adding some feature into the game constitutes a new version of the NGE...lol.

    5. Yep

Point of clarification - I doubt the "new version of the game" theory - if anything, the comments by the devs at AGC makes it pretty clear they would not spring a new version of the game on the playerbase with little or no notice again.  This theory makes no sense in context of said AGC comments.

    last paragraph from that article....
    http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=10830

So what happened with NGE? Blakely said the changes were "a big risk"
that represented a push for a new market of customers, but that it "did
not intersect fully with the market that we had." Fiala said there was
"perceived to be a timing opportunity" related to "product placement
and product marketing" of Star Wars Galaxies, and reiterated the importance of listening to "the market you have" when making decisions about a game already in production.

But they leave you hanging with that....

I mean, seriously, what are they gonna do about it?!?
