With the "Smuggler Revamp" coming up, the Dev's making strange comments, SOE leadership apologizing, LA/SOE pointing fingers at eachother, a new box set with interesting wording, a new Trial when the old one was less than a year old and considered to be good, rumors circulating about Pre-CU & the next SW MMO, and last but not least, the holiday season fast approaching...
What are your Predictions for SWG?
Some believe a shutdown is coming at the turn of the year; others say Pre-CU servers; others say the "Smuggler Revamp" & "Smuggling" will never happen leading to ANOTHER combat system... what do you think is going to happen?

I'll Predict:
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
That'll do for now :P
Ok Obraik, now you're really reaching. Saying something is '3 years in the making' is quite a bit than 'put off for 3 years'. We all know they basically started work on this revamp in the very recent months (if that).
Have you considered a career in marketing and spin? You wouldn't be very good at it, but you might find it fun.
I really think a new game revamp is probably out of the question at this point, they won't waste the money on it.
It's sink or swim time.
I think that some of the team and managment will be "let go" by January if not sooner.
I think you WILL NOT see any expansion for the game anymore. (adding some things or content does not count)
By then a new Star Wars game will be advertised to fill this void to come.
I think the game will sunset in roughly a year from now.. if not server shut downs for sure to try to make one full one.
The NGE will stay/BUT be bastardized with things they swore not to bring back as they have done so far, it will have a small crowd that hangs on over this next year but it will dwindle.
Smedley will retire, admit some mistakes as well but leave within a year.
SWG will die a slow death but not without all of us saying "we told you so".

Publish 32 will never make it out. Development will be closed down by the end of next month.
Note how the Devs have quietly dropped discussion of the "publish roadmap". Indeed, the already greatly thinned roadmap is even hard to find on the site...
No need to predict. You can easily just read what is being said and stop reading in-between the lines where nothing but your imagination is there.
SWG will be running for a long time, because SOE is determined for it to be that way. NGE will stick around and improvements will keep coming down the pipe. Bioware will release the name of their new MMO when they are ready. Finally, all rumors will continue to be untrue, just like the past 9+ months rumors have been.

Not that hard to find, it's listed under the "Rogue_5's commlink" section. Click the features link on the forums to get there fairly quickly
We'll probably see the last NGE main publish around the time the new boxed set comes out (they have to do some sort of publish just to add the incentive item). Discussion of future stuff will stop right around then. The game will coast down the rest of 2006. The boxed set's failure (I expect it will be in discount bins before Christmas) and the continual falling subscriber base is why they will make the shutdown decision in November.

I thought they were going to shutdown last Feb/March timeframe, what happened to that?

Prediction soe will find a way to do whatever they plan so poorly it creates a ton of hate from existing and past customers.
Bioware will announce a KotoR MMO. You dont hire the god father of mmo's his entire old staff, have done a great popular star wars title in the past and make another trolls and elves game.

That is the date of the actual shutdown. They won't just shut the game down the day they announce it.
The shutdown goes in these stages:
1. Shutdown of development, get rid of the cost of the staff (this happens in November some time, and will be when the leaks start).
2. Shutdown announcement, giving us 60-90 days notice (they will delay this as long as they can to make the final cash grab, and to avoid refunding as many prepaids as they can). This comes probably in January.
3. The actual server shutdowns, 60-90 days after the announcement. Most likely in March.
They are at the point where they know the NGE game is going to fail no matter what they do with it. Their options at this point are either an expensive new total revision, or reversion to a previous version. There is some possibility of classic servers though.
Sometime soon (if not already) SWG will cease to pay the normal operating costs and start losing money, with no end in sight. That will mean shutdown.
When thinking about what SOE will do, there are usually two constants.
1. Bait and switch. They will talk about all the great stuff they'll be doing to keep the naive and clueless (ie Obraik) subscribed. At the same time, they will be working on something completely different. (revamp overhaul, shutdown, etc) Rumors will usually leak out about this and SOE will flatly deny it right up to the announcement being made.
2. They will do the STUPIDEST thing imaginable. This will be the result of groupthink and suits who don't even know how to install a game. There will be more PR spin and claims that this is what everyone wants.
Regardless of what they do, those things will be part of it.

Heh, I was asking about the last wild prediction, clarvoyance, etc. of the server being shutdown last Feb/Mar (check the January posts for further details). I see this as another one of those instances.

Anyone who thinks this through can easily predict shutdown, and shutdown soon. The game, which already was judged to not have enough subs to warrant a radical change like the NGE, has lost half of what it had then in less than a year. Nothing they can do with the NGE will ever reverse that.
At some point the game becomes cash negative (ie, costs more to run than it bings in). That point has to be fairly soon, if not already past. The game has already lost HALF it's revenue in the past 10 months. When that point is reached and hope is given up on ever reversing it (as I have said there is and never will be a "magic bullet" NGE publish that suddenly brings everyone back) they shutdown.

Yup, that sounds like the exact arguement used last January, and yet here it still is. I am curious to see what the prediction in December will be.

There will always be a SWG shutdown floating around date in your head. Once this date period passes, you'll no doubt be back here informing us of your next prediction
Damn cryptic and vague, huh? Why do they think THAT'S a rumor?

The devs can't keep serving up the same shit forever Obraik, especially now that they admit it's shit.

Egos and deep pockets man... it had to do the said "Six months time" -- although we are at only the 9 month mark and just now getting them to admit failure with it.
So we are a few months off lol.
None the less, I say a year tops from this last statement. Not to mention it's just old and sad now.

Well, so far myself predicting the NGE would fail and that SOE would end up wishing they had not done it pretty much came true. Although I thought it would have happend at the 6/7 month mark not the 9/10 one.
Although, now seeing this... I give it a year. Once all these games come out and over the next couple months SOE sees this as SWGs last attempt at getting people they will sunset it.
Let's face it, it's a tarnished product with alot of baggage now as it is. This game is not worth the franchise name it has now.
