Heh, I was asking about the last wild prediction, clarvoyance, etc. of the server being shutdown last Feb/Mar (check the January posts for further details). I see this as another one of those instances.
Anyone who thinks this through can easily predict shutdown, and shutdown soon. The game, which already was judged to not have enough subs to warrant a radical change like the NGE, has lost half of what it had then in less than a year. Nothing they can do with the NGE will ever reverse that.
At some point the game becomes cash negative (ie, costs more to run than it bings in). That point has to be fairly soon, if not already past. The game has already lost HALF it's revenue in the past 10 months. When that point is reached and hope is given up on ever reversing it (as I have said there is and never will be a "magic bullet" NGE publish that suddenly brings everyone back) they shutdown.
There will always be a SWG shutdown floating around date in your head. Once this date period passes, you'll no doubt be back here informing us of your next prediction
I'm not saying that it WILL shut down then, only stating that it COULD.
They could keep the game open forever if they want to, and are willing to piss away money.
Knowing what kind of unprincipled greedy sonofabitch bastards SOE/LEC are, I am predicting they will shut it down after it starts losing money. That point is past or is very soon to pass.

I think the game will sunset in roughly a year from now.. if not server shut downs for sure to try to make one full one. The NGE will stay/BUT be bastardized with things they swore not to bring back as they have done so far, it will have a small crowd that hangs on over this next year but it will dwindle. Smedley will retire, admit some mistakes as well but leave within a year. SWG will die a slow death but not without all of us saying "we told you so".
My thinking is that the Devs will be let go or reassigned between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The shutdown information will leak out (stuff always leaks when you have disgruntled people leaving), but TH will be denying it to the last, when the announcement is made in January.
We'll probably see the last NGE main publish around the time the new boxed set comes out (they have to do some sort of publish just to add the incentive item). Discussion of future stuff will stop right around then. The game will coast down the rest of 2006. The boxed set's failure (I expect it will be in discount bins before Christmas) and the continual falling subscriber base is why they will make the shutdown decision in November.
I thought they were going to shutdown last Feb/March timeframe, what happened to that?
That is the date of the actual shutdown. They won't just shut the game down the day they announce it.
The shutdown goes in these stages:
1. Shutdown of development, get rid of the cost of the staff (this happens in November some time, and will be when the leaks start).
2. Shutdown announcement, giving us 60-90 days notice (they will delay this as long as they can to make the final cash grab, and to avoid refunding as many prepaids as they can). This comes probably in January.
3. The actual server shutdowns, 60-90 days after the announcement. Most likely in March.
They are at the point where they know the NGE game is going to fail no matter what they do with it. Their options at this point are either an expensive new total revision, or reversion to a previous version. There is some possibility of classic servers though.
Sometime soon (if not already) SWG will cease to pay the normal operating costs and start losing money, with no end in sight. That will mean shutdown.

Then went to deep space to destroy the reb space station. Then logged out. I only had to PVP someone once, and that was in deep space.

Shhhh the NGE fanbois will tell you that your server is populated and working as intended... OHHH or this one: "They are all on Mustafar" or this one: "They are all there you just can't find them or know where to look"...
Or they are all cloaked at the exact time your looking for them... yep, thats it.

It's buggy as hell lately actually. The client seems to corrupt itself going back to the character picker. I have to full scan constantly. Bookmarks in space still work half ass and the market seems to list things that aren't really there anymore.
I haven't tried todays patch though I am not gonna hold my breath on anything.
Oh and since I apparently am counted as a fanboi...
I haven't even been to Mustafar yet.

Saving face? Please. Who the hell would I have to save face from?
I am not an optimist in the least, I am a realist though and I see what SOE is doing. Do I agree with every decision they have made? Nope not in the, least but if I enjoy the game for short periods of time so be it, guilty as charged. I just use logic to debate points on here. I am more or less neutral on the whole matter. If they go back to preCU, great. If not, great. It doesn't really matter to me, its just a game. If I get bored i will leave. Does that suddenly make me an anti-NGE person? Nope, just a bored player.
Folks that get all bent out of shape and have to constantly resort to name calling and belittleing because they can't find a valid, logical counter arguement to something posted is what get me going,. That and trying to state conjecture and "grapevine" statements as fact.
BTW, did you actually play aplha LotR or are you basing that on a "grapevine" statement?

November sees the complete edition in stores. The holydays failes to attract new customers. Jan/feb 2007 they announce the shutdown of SWG. Bioware announces a new SW mmorpg. Classic servers are offered to ease the wait for the new mmo. Helios is flipping burgers at McD
Hauken Stormchaser I want pre-CU back Station.com : We got your game Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
Ok I'm going off the wall here for the hell of it. (and because its fun) Here is my prediction.
1. SOE will announce classic servers as the next step in their PR move meant to rebuild the broken SW community. The first step was what you just saw at AGC.
2. SOE will announce a new player experience.
3. After SOE does their thing BioWare will announce the title of their new MMO as being based on the Star Wars IP.
4. BioWare will also announce the yet unannounced publisher of their MMO currently in development as Sony Online Entertainment.
5. A new enhanced trial experience will launch that will allow trial players to leave the station and advance through ground and space quests in the main game.
6. SWG:C will ship with the new rebuilt experience as well as some goodies (bonus material) meant to entice veteran players back to the game they once loved.
7. BioWare launches it’s new title in Q4 of 2008.
8. SOE adds the new title to their list of Station pass games as well as a new subscription plan for SW fans. Win Win situation and SOE reputation as well as LEC’s is mildly repaired. All games stay active from that point on.
I predict that Station Access will be reduced to $18-22. They'll no longer offer single game subs, but allow the single game subs to run out without charge. If you want SWG or EQ2 from then on, you'll get Station Access and have access to all the games on Station Access.
Live staff will be cut across board, in all their games. You'll have a few, and a PR person like Blackguard or Thunderheart to quell flames, act like they are concerned, creating lists for further development, and development that will be seriously curtailed.
SWG will work on a skelleton crew, and will only get better in small, inconsequential ways. However, its going to be around for as long as SOE promotes Station Access, and I believe SOE will keep Station Access for as long as SOE remains SOE.

Interesting theory, I will be watching for that. I don't think they would do it but I wouldn't rule that one out either, it sounds like a move they would do in some ways.

1.) The new smuggling system goes live with the next publish. It will suck. 2.) SWG: Complete flops and no more expansions are planned. 3.) The expertise system is finished late next year and the game goes into support mode. 4.) Most of the current de3v team is moves to other SOE projects or let go. Thos that are left are told to work on the abandoned housing issue so that server merges can happen. 5.) No official classic servers are opened. 6.) The game continues until a new Star Wars MMORPG is created by another company which will carry the baggage of SWG, wether warranted or not.
The trial is being redone because the current one doesn't work. The Devs broke it with the last 2 publishes.

Heh, I was asking about the last wild prediction, clarvoyance, etc. of the server being shutdown last Feb/Mar (check the January posts for further details). I see this as another one of those instances.
Lol, why do I get the feeling that you are still playing this game?

"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

Holy crap, what do you do for a living that you can afford the time and cash to play all those games regularily?

Ahh that explains some things.
I was wondering why some of your posts seem to be "saving face" based more or less but could not tell why..lol
Your more of a optimist then I am paying them, thats for sure.
However, it does take all kinds in the world I do know that much.

(Oh and alpha for LOTR online was not that great *cough* so I heard).

Heh, military and I don't play all of them every night, just hop around. I get bored with one and jump to another for a bit. In fact I just resubbed SWG this month after a 3 month lull.

Life is a sexually transmitted disease and it is 100% fatal.
I hope so, and that its something good. My account finally runs out September 18th. I've logged in everyday on eclipse and proceeded to take all three GCW bases unopposed. Then went to deep space to destroy the reb space station. Then logged out. I only had to PVP someone once, and that was in deep space.
Man does this game suck now.

I honestly think the original player base scares SOE and it should. Talented, smart, capable sharks. We were not easy to control, and not too easy to lie to. They have the playerbase they want now. The sheep.
IMO - Never listen to the suckboard mods cause either they dont know shyte.
our knowledge > (Virrago + Thunderheart)^2
Can someone check my math on that.
Smuggler revamp will bring some old smugglers back and get some respec's but that is about it
It's not going pre-cu, it's not getting shut down. It's going to just continue to go as it is. It's not leaving the station pass lineup.
There ya go, my prediction.

The holydays failes to attract new customers.
Jan/feb 2007 they announce the shutdown of SWG.
Bioware announces a new SW mmorpg.
Classic servers are offered to ease the wait for the new mmo.
Helios is flipping burgers at McD
Hauken Stormchaser
I want pre-CU back
Station.com : We got your game
Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!

Sounds about right.
I predict that SWG Complete comes out - every place selling it will be swamped with negative reviews and sales will suck.
I fully predict that SOE will talk about how great sales have been and how they are on the right track.
