I bought the game few days ago. Came back home, openned a box, installed, registered, downloaded the patch, started the game...
Wonderful creation of charecter, probably the best i've ever seen in MMORPG, appeared as Zabrak in Theed/Naboo, being a artisan. Played it for a while, red a manual, saying i might be stupid. Picked up another class - Brawler, played it for a while, fullfiled few quests (delivery, destroy), got money. Got bored again. OK, started to do some crafting, found metlas, made few things, put them to the bazzar terminal and got bored again.
After 3 days i unintalled the game and came to the conlusion - it's just another chat (or game devs' fraud on players).
If you have another XP with the game, tell me what to do there (it just looks dead, not like any other MMOPRG, i fell myself being Offline, only cantinas make it different - it's chat with virtual dancers and fireworks).
If ou give me some examples i can change my mind about this game and reinstall it again, but now i think its the worst MMORPG i've ever played (up to now i played 6 of them).
I feel bad about SOE, cause those guys created the best game in my eyes which was EQ. I enjoyed it for 2.5 years and i will still keep a good memory about it even i don't play it anymore...

You could try maybe killing something for starters. Ive never played SWG but it doesnt sound like you did anything but create a couple chars.

Did you play the other 5 MMORPGs for 3 days as well?
First of all, people can give you reasons why they like or dislike the game, I will soon give you mine, but it comes down to your own experience with a game, not what others say. So if you played and didn't like the game, you probably won't like it if you try it again based on what others say. This, of course, is subjective. I, and many of the players I see in SWG, are roleplayers. They play for that purpose. We all enjoy it for what it is. In my opinion, if you are a power-gamer looking to power-level and become the best Uber lewt-dude in the game, SWG is not for you. It is a relatively simple game (not like EQ, which is difficult). If you like Star Wars and you want to explore some planets and do some quests, SWG can deliver is some respects. If you like PvP, SWG has it, maybe not as developed and in depth as some other games out there, but again, you have to take it for what it is and play accordingly. I feel that the people who do not like SWG and complain about it are upset that the game doesn't have certain aspects of a MMORPG that they want to see. This is unfortunate, but all I can say is to try out others that you think will have the most important things you want in a MMORPG. For me, SWG has the most important thing for me, a good roleplaying environment. So I enjoy playing. It is not the same kind of enjoyment I get from playing Final Fantasy XI, however. FFXI, being similar to EQ (which is still an old favorite that I played for years), I enjoy the excitement of leveling and growing more powerful so that I can reach my next objective. For instance, I can't wait to get my next skill at level 15, I am looking forward to riding a big chicken-like mount thingy, etc. So I play these two games, and I like them both, yet they are totally different games in almost all respects. The thing is, they both have things in them that I like that keeps me interested. I hope you find a game that has the things you like in it, if it is not SWG, then leave it alone please and move on.

I have this same opinion. I have a MBH on Kettemoor which I started when SWG first hit the shelves. Cancelled my account only a month ago to go back to Shadowbane and wait for the next thing. The reason for this is that while it has, IMO, the nicest over package of the MMORPG's and definately a strong engine .. theres just something missing.
The RP crowd will tell you its RPing ... I don't think so. In my opinion the world has far too many superficial quests and sites, nothing that really grabs you and gives you a reason to stick around. I was also involved in a clan and city (SE of Kettemoor is Port Valorum) and did some serious PvP for a while (which is a joke in SWG).
I'm not sure what SWG is missing really ... it just is not a gripping game. If I were to make some assessment on the matter, I would say SWG is a treadmill style game (i.e. EQ'ish) that lacks the depth of character development that most of those games would have. A weak environment to play in only emphasizes the problem.

SWG was made much different than the mainstream linear gaming. Instead of just level grind to get to lvl 65 (EQ) you don't have levels.
You said you went brawler and artisan. Artisan is a big RP class, being as all you do is build things for people. What I think you missed out on is the grouping, the player interaction.
You stated that you saw everything as "Offline", so i guess you were in a bad city, because every city i go to there is always high activity. Also the server you picked might not be the most populated.
What it sounds like is that most people don't seem to like the non-linear game style the SWG offers. It doesn't guide you like other MMORPG's (RO, EQ, and FFXI). SWG is meant for you top choose what you want to do, maybe pick a side of the Galactic war, and then Role Play. I mean hey, thats why it is called an MMO-RPG.
I would argue that Shadowbane has even LESS direction, however I find its appeal longer lasting due to the more comprehensize PC development. SWG is a great idea and great engine with an unfortunate implementation. This game just does not have environment to support its intended style of play (which I agree is less linear , much like SB).
J7007,
What server did you play on?
If you go to the official SWG forms at:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/
There is a list of all the servers. Go to the forum for your server.
At the top of the tread will be a list of PA's (Player Associations) that are looking for new members.
Since SWG is a SCS game, players are even more dependent on each other than in other games. By joining a PA you have a chance to experience the game differently, and drastically increase your chances of comaradarie.
You mention how much of an EQ fan you are. EQ is a nice game, but SWG is 10,000 times different from EQ. It is possible you are too used to the EQ style of play and SWG is just not for you.

i have been playing this game just over 2 weeks.
when i first logged on, i too thought the game was empty. kind of alone, not very many people at all, id see one or two run past but thats it.
then i saw the little box when i was looking in the almost empty bazaar to check for 'whole planet' and i realized the problem was they started me in a town noone is in. i paid for a shuttle to the town that had the most things sold on bazaar, and there are tons of people. met alot of them , made alot of friends, joined groups and a guild.
fulmanfu,
You hit the nail on the head!
Different planets, different cities, are ment on purpose to have a desolate outback feel.
Every planet has a capital city. Both in size, and number of NPCs in it. Which tends to attract more players. Coronet, Mos Eisley, and other famous ciites will be more happening places than Rori, or other unknown, unfamiliar named planets and cities.
And yes, there is the advent of player cities. Which I'll admit diminished the number of players in NPC cities. BUT..... the key word is more choices. New players can take advantage of the NPC cities. Vet players can take advantage of the Player cities. Everyone can take advantage of NPC and Player cities. No other game has these choices.

Another note on this. When you create a character there is an option to start in the hopping places such as Coronet and Theed. However, since there are a bunch of players in those places, those selections are not allowed. The result is a new player may log in and think the world is empty and the game must suck if no one wants to play. I would suggest traveling to Coronet or Theed as those are the two most bustling places in the galaxy becasue of their starports. Theed has best starport in the galaxy as it is instant and goes to several places, and Coronet is the hub of the galaxy.

I bought SWG a few months ago and when i first logged on i must admit i found it boring, the city i started in had no people and i could only afford one shuttle trip and didnt really know where to go to. Then my mate subscribed and i eventually found places where people gather and i really enjoyed the game. I started to become a commando, defended a player city from a few imperial raids, went to raid a few imp cities (crashed loads) and i quite enjoyed myself. Then the other day i mastered commando and thought to myself now what? the next step is to get rid of 50% of my skills (IE: 2 months work) and start working on another profession. either that or do the same thing for the rest of the game never gaining levels etc. Now i hate having to do this, if i wanted to be an artisan or dancer i would have created one from the beginning, which i didnt. The next step up from master is to become a jedi, which sounds good, but to do so i have to grind at least another 4 professions. and since i dont know which 4 i could end up having to grind them all. BORING!
So i havent been on for a week or so and am searching for a new game.
Overall this game is good for a few weeks, but suddenly becomes boring.
Muahahahahahahaha

1. You are incorrect. Have you even PLAYED SWG? When was the last time you even played SWG? What server were you on?
2. KOTOR is NOT a MMORPG. It is a console RPG. Very. very, limited in what can be done vs a MMORPG. It is also an entirely different game and cannot in any way be compared to SWG. See the name of this here site? It is called "mmorpg.com". It is about MMORPGs. If you want to advertise for KOTOR, or talk about it, go to a RPG site.
3. Here's something more for you......your quote turned around and used on you:
Most of you are bashing SWG without using constructive criticism. In your case you say it is not a "quality title" without saying when was the last time you played it. What you disliked about SWG. AND what you liked about SWG. And what you think can be done to improve what you disliked about SWG.

T-R-A-V-E-L!
SWG is nothing like EQ. In EQ there are "newbie zones" where you don't leave or travel from until you reach a certain level. In SWG as soon as your character is created you can travel to ANY city. Take the shuttle to other cities on the planet. Go to other planets. Some of the most happening cities are:
Mos Eisley, Tantooine <- Probably the most populated city on every single server LOL.
Mos Espa, Tantooine
Coronet, Corellia
Theed, Naboo
If your short on credits, do a few easy missions. Get multiple missions in the same location. Example:
Get 2 missions that are all "North". Or all "south", etc....
Last, learn to use the chat channels. Then surf the chat channels. And also follow my advice on the page before this one about checking out the different PAs for your server at the SWG official website.
I understand that in EQ it is usual that players will play first, meet each other, become friends, THEN form a guild or join a guild.
In SWG it is usual that players will FIRST join a PA (Player Association aka guild) or form a PA, then play the game and meet in game.

Exactly! You will NEVER ever "gain levels" in SWG. Because it is NOT a Level Based game. EQ is a Level Based game. You are tooo used to playing EQ. SWG is a Skill Based game.
SWG goes even further with even more experiments. You only have 1 character per server. If you master 1-3 professions and think "now what" you have choices:
- Start a new character on another server and check out life as an alter ego. Play as a wookiee. Play as a Full Time overt Imperial or Rebel. Play as a female
- Do what you do in Real Life. In Real Life after you finnish school and get the career you want do you then say "Now what"? Then commit suicide since you know what job you expect to have for the next 50 years?
No you continously try many new things. Run a marathon, learn to drive stick shift, take a roadtrip to differnt states, learn other things, meet other people. 1 Year you may be into mountain biking. Another year you may be into Kyaking. Another year you may be into trying to see what its like to make your own movie. Even though your original career job may be Accounting. Another year you may try you hand at writting. Etc... etc.. etc....
- Join a PA. The game takes on a new view.
- Engage in PvP on the unofficial PvP servers.

Experienced Players send more "advices" for people like me about this game and finally we can create massive role-playing and interesting community in the game. Thank you all
