Honestly, I think it's pretty sad that you're a parent teaching your kids that 'hard work' means 'grinding for stuff in MMOs'. And I think it's pretty silly to teach them that a 'fair' game is one in which you get more stuff based on how long you've played; I think you could teach them a lot more about fair competition by having them play something like Chess instead, where you start with the same position whether you play once per month or whether you spend the last week grinding games against an AI at the lowest level.
I think you're either missing the point Pantastic or are looking for a fight. I said I agree with your comments but fundamentally think Gold buying in games is not the best. If you are really extrapolating that I want to raise my kids via MMO's, then I guess you are not interested in opinions, but would rather try to retroactively flame. Next I would expect you to correct my spelling, grammer, and then say 'learn your class' or something like that. Yeesh.
I went from respecting your critical thinking to basically feeling sorry for your useless need to quote and flame. Have a nice night alone.

You said "I guess as a father of 2, I want to remain as idealistic as possible regarding hard work and competition. I want my little dudes to enjoy what they do and work hard to get better. If they encounter situations that are not fair, I want them to continue to work hard and not get discouraged." Why did you say that in a thread about buying gold in MMOs on a board about MMOs if it has nothing to do with MMOs at all? I don't see any reason to bring up your kids and your desire to teach them about hard work and competition in this thread unless you think it's in some way related.
Originally posted by anarchyart You shouldn't need an arguement to understand. It's obvious if outside money say from the men on mars suddenly was buying up all the forests on earth, that might kind of screw up the world economy. Same goes for real world cash buying stuff in a game.
Can you provide an example of both a ruined and non-ruined game economy so that we can compare them? I know you guys refuse to even say what you mean by a screwed up game economy, so examples would be good.

To keep this on topic, I will simply say that the key word here is 'idealistic'. I am desribing myself and how I would like to see a game. I then go on to describe why I am idealistic. In a logical debate like this one, we should all look at the literal and the emotional. I understand your words, but I also understand your feelings about the grinders. You too should look at the words of those who oppose gold buying, but also understand WHY those words are there (don't insult people's parenting cause it really pisses them off).
I respect your view and even understand your view. I just happen to think that if someone is going to go nuts and grind and MMO for 20 hours a day, then that's one's choice and it fits the game mechanics. I agree with you that this behavior is kinda dumb, but meh...
