Come add to the list of scam/bullcrap games!

Let's see. Let us start with Mourning/Thrones of Chaos, DnL, Divergence, and The Chronicle (MMOcenter in general). Off the top of my head these are the games I think of when I think scammers and/or bullsh*tters. Anyone think of some more? I figure we make a nice list here so people will know which games to avoid. If people are too absent-minded to realize a scam or vaporware when they see it...

Then isn't it the best for humanity that they don't know?

    anyone remember Dawn?
here's a trip down memory lane
but the crazy thing is that it's still supposedly being developed. I think the guy was running a pseydo company from his house in Florida and now he's got a web game up. Does anyone know more about this?

Kinda like what Thrones of Chaos Age of mourning etc. is trying to pull only without the web game.

poor poor people, I completely agree with mourning/age of mourning being a scam to finance a game engine but thinking Throne of Chaos has anything to do with old mourning/dev team is just plain stupid. Sure they BOUGHT their engine and world, for your information, the new dev team are base in the us and they have people that worked on EQ2, WoW only to name those 2.

So please to put this game in the same basket as the other you describing, get your fact straight before starting a flame fest

You can pity all the people, but your aparent firm belief that a series of scams has surely led to something legit is pretty amusing.

Its not amusing at all :p

seriously, Iam not trying to defend the suckers that made mourning because I was one of those that pre-ordered and yes I was pissed off too. I played the game, world graphics were nice but char models.. omg just ugly.

Because of them , I will never pre-order anything again.Did I loose my money... I dont think so, the new team is offering life time account for those that did pre-order.

To make myself feel better, I see my 20$ like a long term investment lol

Add Horizons and Roma Victor to that list.

Horizons is billing people for the free test and after they have canceled their accounts and it is taking months for those same people to get credit for it. Meanwhile their checking accounts are being overdrawn in some cases which is costing them bank fees.

Roma Victor, another preorder scam where promises were made about the quality of the game which did not materialize. They are giving refunds but it has taken many weeks for some players to get them.

You notice they are still not given a spot here, correct? Oh, wait. That's right. LoudAss himself said they were already set to be put back on here as soon as the guys from MMORPG.COM came back from vacation. Must be one long vacation......

They sent a written list of developers to MMORPG.COM and that's supposed to prove they don't have the same people anymore? It's called selective listing. Of course they're not going to put the guys from Mournings names on their as devs. But they have already admitted themselves that the orignal people are still there as "advisors" and they have the original mods running the forums. Oh, yeah. When I asked LoudAss to give us something showing that his team is experienced at making mmos, he couldn't do it. The last "discussion" I had with LoudAss here on the forum, he ran away because every excuse and supposed "proof" that it wasn't another scam that he gave, I shot down with plain common sense and he couldn't handle it.

So, please. Get YOUR facts straight before you try to prove that I'm wrong. Have a nice day.::::02::

I can understand people feeling that things like Mourning, DnL, and Dawn were scams, but I don't think games such as SWG, Vanguard, or even Horizons qualify as "scams."  A scam is a scheme to swindle people out of money by fraudulent means, no?  Dawn definitely was a scam.  Mourning took money and had very little to give anyone.  If it didn't start out as a scam, it sure ended as one.  The same might hold true for DnL.  What's happening to Horizons now is downright criminal, but probably not a scam.  Just plain ineptitude and mismanagement.  The rest, however, are actual games that took years of development and have or will have a proper product to give people in exchange for their money, regardless of what we might think of the content.  I think some people might be defining "scam" incorrectly.  Archlord is simply an Asian game that has been translated and published by a western company... it just has a goofy pricing structure.

Now if you want a really dangerous scam... bagged spinach!

actually some interesting developments regarding Horizons and its new owner EII.

Apparently EII did NOT purchase the game outright. They were given till October to come up with their first big installment. Then an yet unspecified time later they are to make a second larger payment to Chris Baker. This comes from an ex Tulga Employee... interesting that EII did not have their employee's sign NDA's.

What is happening now is that people are suffering from the same old Horizons issues but new twists come int play.

    1) there is no effective way to cancel your account at this time

    2) Accounts are not only being double billed but there are factual reports of accounts being charged upwards of 14 times in one month. Its taking weeks to get refunds on cancelled billed accounts and then they end up getting charged again the next billing cycle.

    3) EII is blaming Pay by touch for these issues. But reports are that statements are showing EII as the billing company. If PBT was indeed doing the billing the statements would reflect a similar charge * EII Horizons- Paybytouch *. This is not happening. All references to the fact that Pay by touch is not appearing on anyone's statements are being deleted outright off of the official boards.

Speculation is that EII's first payment is due this october. That they are charging people , multiple billing accounts and charging cancelled accounts in order to have cash on hand to pay this first payment. Yes they eventually have to issue refunds and they do it just takes them a very very long time. Delaying refunds so that they can get the cash together to make this payment. Also they are counting on the fact that some people will not be checking their statements and will be oblivious to multiple charges for horizons. Offering them further boons to this payment they have to make.

Is this a scam ? hard to say but its more of a scam than simple incompetance.

So if ToC comes out and they give all those people credit like they said they did and the game is legit will you come back and post how wrong you where. Or are you going to be one of those pathetic losers who find new reasons to post hate crap about a computer game ?

If ToC comes out and is a complete scam and vaporware as predicted by 99% of this forum's member base, will you apologize for your blatant fanboism and stop making ridiculous posts like this?

    99% ? fanboy ?
Find the post that I say it wont, or that I'm even going to buy the game ? Not spouting off about things I have no real idea about doesn't make me a fanboi...it just doesn't make me the norm on this forum it seems.

You don't know a thing about loudant. Your so called facts are nothing more then loud obnoxious opinions.

ToC probably will end up vaporware, but not because the new devs set out to screw people over. It's going to end up like that because having anything to do with the name mourning is just a stupid business idea......but that wont make you right.

    Well said there.

I'd like to add that the road to hell is paved by good intentions. I think that very few people set out to scam anyone. They probably foolishily believe they can somehow make the games. Somewhere along the way they see it going down the crapper and do whatever they can. No excuse but there's a human nature angle in all this that needs to be considered.
