Even though SOE is only the publisher I am rather dubious that they will keep to themselves and let Sigil handle Vanguard as they want. Notice how once EQ1 started making money, that Verant went *poof* and EQ1 now proudly brought to you by SOE?
Although even if SOE does stand back and "just" publish/distribute the game, many people will see Sony on the box and get an immediate negative opinion of the game. They will see Vanguard on the SOE access pass and assume (even if wrong) that SOE has influence on the game. Brad made a huge mistake in coming back to Sony for distribution, he lost a lot of potential customers just by association with Sony.
Sad thing is SOE could of rebuilt consumer confidence, but time and time again in many games (EQ1, EQ2, SWG) they tick off the players, lie to the players and generally seem to have an attitude of "we don't give a f**k, now cough up $15 to play".
