A lot of people who take a more formal martial arts always says "Well, you have to take them down, even if they can defend, you'll be screwed."
Well, no. Jiu-jitsu teaches you how to take them down. Even if that person knows how to defend, there's still ways to get close enough to do a submission, choke or just dirty boxing style... hold their head and just pound on them untill they go to the ground... then you work your magic.

I've only been studying martial arts for ~4 years, but I've been lucky enough to experience several different styles.
Northern Shaolin is my favorite, it's just the most fun to train at. I've also trained in Shitoryu Karate, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and San Soo (sometimes referred to as San Shou) Kung Fu.
San Soo is the most effective martial art I've witnessed. No rules, lethality-oriented attacks that maximise damage through maiming techniques. I love it. Throat, eye, groin, spine, knees, solar plexus, bladder - those were the major targets. The training covered non-lethal techniques like joint manipulation and locks, throws, takedowns and disabling strikes, but the emphasis was on instant-kill. At the higher levels you were expected to exhibit total control, where lethality wasn't required due to superior skill, but the level I trained at (just under a year of training) was all about destruction.
----------------------------- Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby
I got a black belt in Tae Kwon Do about 7 years ago, and would have loved to continue doing it, unfortunately the instructor decided that it was okay to teach us about integrity while sleeping with one of his married students(who's husband was also a student) something that didn't sit well with our family.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Wow. I can imagine. You weren't able to find another dojang?
I do some stretching every now and then. I think pakour is a really good 1UP with Martial Arts as you are able to become a true Jackie Chan. Heh, Well i think streching is a great part of my morning. I wrestle with my rottwiler (she get's too serious sometimes). I have a lot of training methods.
i'm into capoeira if anyone knows what it is. i really enjoy it. it really helps too if running somewhere or from someone and it has gave alot of strenght it is just really fun actually and not even hard you just have to be confident and full of energy and you will really do well if anyone is going to learn something and you like free moving flips runaways and such ill promise you will like capoeira if you think its like parkour well it isnt anyway if someone is thinking of something like that then learn capoeira
