Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Face it, your best gaming years are behind you

And no, it's not because the virgin MMORPG experience is a one time whirl.  It's because I see nothing, nothing, nothing on the horizon that's going to top or dramatically innovate over what has been done in the past.

Best game world was EQ1.  Best game mechanics and crafting were WOW.  No game has taken both of those and merged them together (badass world and badass mechanics).  And no future game seems to be coming even close.

Want to know what your MMORPG's have transformed into?  Do you?

This forum.  Your past MMORPG's were "game+chat", and now only the "chat" is left.  And so, like jaded gamers who should have been more ambitiuous in life, we sit before our computers and chat, because there is really nothing worth playing.

If there were a worthwhile game, I'd be in it and not here.

The MMORPG genre is still young.
Currently, we see more and more MMORPG developers. At some point, they'll start throwing out quality MMORPGs.

The past always seems better, as it is a memory. And memories often gets sprinkled with star dust and happy bunnies.

To be completely honest with you my best playing game years were probably from around 1996-1998.
I was first getting into computers and picked up Quake one night at EB. After that I spent many many many hours until the morning light downloading maps, mods, etc. for it. Then Team Fortress hit and I was playing even more. With maps like 2fort32, The Rock, etc. I was really addicted. I played on TEN(Total Entertainment Network) for about 2 months until I found Gamespy.

Then Ultima Online came out and then EQ came but I just couldnt leave UO. It was the first MMORPG that I played and it holds a lot of sentimental value to me even today after all the changes that have been made.

I would say letting players create missions and new game areas is really new and innovative in MMO's.

My best gaming years were in the early 90's, when space flight sims and RPG's ruled and were coming out yearly in good quality and number.

    WoW has the best crafting?!

um... no. sorry, but just no.

SWG pre NGE had the best crafting system in my opinion.

Got to agree, the whole process of collecting either the best, or most plentifull resources, shaping the items stat yourself, and finally putting the item up for sale at your own NPC merchant.. Made the whole system great. A game where people could actually join the crafters route, and still become succesfull while having fun.

That definitely invalidated any opinion the OP had And there is nothing "badass" about WoW except its subscription numbers, which I personally think are inflated.

A la The Saga of Rysom lets you do that with The Ring their bringing out. I don't play it but since you brought it up i thought i'd add that.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

It's not a WoW hater, it's a simple fact that Blizzard got lucky. The game is sub-par when it comes to any kind of mechanics.

"Where there is money to be made, there are games to be played"

I miss the good old days I had playing Realm Online.  I played that constantly in high school.  It was so cool to follow two people in a hut and steal what they were trading.  This was before the "trade window" that is standard now.  They had to drop the object and the other guy had to pick it up.  If you timed it right you could get in there and pick it up before they did LOL

    Fun stuff...

The guy is just giving his opinion, and you make it sound like he does not have a right to have one, atleast he was civil about it and didnt act hostile in the forums. Your expression in the forums is juveanile if anything. On top of that your getting defensive in a discussion about mmorpgs lol.

Lol, saying EQ1 and WoW are good shows how much you know about the MMOG genre.
  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437
Actually eq1 was my first mmorpg and its the most fun game I ever played, mainly because of the massive world and the verstility in bards and casters. On top of that it was challenging and there was always something very cool to do. For back in its day it was one of the best mmorpgs, I didnt like eq2 was much as 1.
