I dont think they (DF devs) are trying to make pre-tram UO2, theyre just taking the rules because they think thats what is missing in todays MMROPG industry. And i think they are right, just look at how popular UO and free shards are, hundreds of them.

You see, the reason I say its pointless to get in this game unless you are already a member of a big, multi-MMO clan is because that is the only way you'll be able to gain allies and friends.  There will be no opportunity to "organize people just to survive."  All the people will already be organized from before the servers even go live, and anyone who goes in there alone expecting to find friends will discover that everyone already has friends, and what they are missing is easy food.
The games haven't changed.  The people have changed.  The way we game has changed.
And you base this on what? How many UO2's have you seen? Those people that played UO ten years ago may have changed, but how much more people are playing online games today? Thousandfold?

You can't recreate UO, and have it work like UO today.  You can't do it, because we have become much too preoccupied with the business of play, rather than the play.  Frankly, all games, be it PvP or PvE, are boring, simply because the players are so organized, and so professionalized, and have made it boring.
Well then, by your words, there should be thousands of well organized guilds ready for Darkfall, right? So how does that go with "only 20 top leet guilds can survive in DF"?

Boring is efficient.  Boring means you get the maximum return for the minimal loss.  Boring works when advancing in a game like Darkfall, because if something is exciting, or risky, it means there is a good chance for failure, which is why powergaming clans like the ones at the development table at Darkfall are making sure that the game is designed to favor them, over your common joe subscriber who still thinks these games should be fun, without the fuss.
Thats just ridiculous, if there ever was a dev team that couldnt care less what its community is currently whining about, its the Darkfall dev team. You would know this if you knew anything about DF.

So sacred_bore...I mean sacred_band, the reason I say that anyone not already in a big powergaming clan has no place in Darkfall has nothing to do with my dislike of old UO.  It has to do with the fact that this isn't the late '90s, those days are not going to be coming back, sub fees are non-refundable, and 200 member twink clans on TS and Vent have metagamed PvP out of RPG.
No, this isnt the late 90's, nor is DF old UO.

Therefore, for all my money, I might as well just get a game, kill rats to level 50, and go on somewhere else, because at least I don't need a headset inviting strangers into my home through my speakers, just to take a break from the everyday.
Well, if a headset is such a big thing to you that you rather play these current mind-numbing jobs-disguised-as-games, then you certainly have plethora of MMORPGs to choose from. But dont come saying that youre having fun.

    To all:

Darkfall will certainly not be for everyone, but i think theres a much bigger crowd waiting for a game like Darkfall than most people realise. Hell, look at EVE, nevermind the fact that most people think it as an expensive screensaver, it still keeps growing steadily years after launch. Im giving EVE as an example of player freedom and breaking the current genre, same as DF in that sense.

You dont like Darkfall? Fine, good, be happy whatever game you decide to play instead. But if you really think theres any MMORPG in development or out, that has more advanced features than Darkfall, then you are a total idiot. Go ahead, prove me wrong, compare DF list of features to any game.

As for DF being vapor? No, it is not vapor. It will lauch, in what condition it will lauch and is it even playable is anyones guess and I do have my own doubts about that too. So yes, it might turn into another DnL. It certainly takes a looong time for them to finish it, 5 years and counting... but then again WoW took longer and that game is doing just fine, dont you think?

hmm i agree with your post pretty much but i dont think DF has any chance of being the next DnL, they have opposite problems, DnL was an unfinished game, DF is taking it sweet time to put in every feature anyone asks for

therefore i think if IF if DF launches it will make it

I don't think you'll ever see something like UO again because UO won't be the only thing in town.

You'll never see PvE and PvP players mingling like that again because everybody has their own MMO.

To some degree, true.  What can never be re-lived is the shock and confusion coming from newness to PvP (when your on the receiving side), the hilariousness of being able to have more freedom and the game-play consequences than the devs expected...pretty much the overall birth of mmorpg game-play.
