the only mmorpg I want to look at next is Aion and the next FF mmorpg and that marvel one being done by Cryptic ( I like marvel better than DC Comics characters too)...
GW - Anet did the game... and they're popular due to mostly the pvp play aspect... But take note they hired asian graphic artists and took on the asian style graphics ( which is supposed to be more stylish versus Western which is more traditional...Excluding The Chronicles of Spellborn, I like TCoS graphics, however, I'm afraid their graphics is gonna be semi-outdated when released when next-gen mmos like Aion comes out... )
Aion - Nice graphic animation (Not too sure about their cinematics, cause my view on cinematics is that it should be kept vague like when u create a new character and enter the game in WOW, due to the reason that cinematics of your character takes away from your individuality. Especially since everyone else will be doing the same within the cinematic)... I'm asian, and i like asian games and mostly they get the graphics done right. Graphics include "Animation" too. It's very important for the connection/immersive aspect of any game for me, as well as enjoyment. In other words, in many asian mmo when the character model hits, the animation slows on impact and the monster animation has a reaction even if it just turns red... versus western style like Vanguard, Hero's Journey ( HJ has that color stream follow the swing, but really has no sense of impact ), etc... Age of Conan , I'll acknowledge its western style melee combat style, however, I like the exaggerated impact in many Asian style games better than the one AoC takes (especially since, I didn't really get a feel of the impact when the enemies' head gets chopped off)...
Huxley - gameplay looks like any other shooter game, but without any "catch" or anything that shines out... Basically it seems to be a P2P version of Doom/Halo/whatever without any vehicles...
APB - Not asian... Swedish developers and I have yet to see if they're even getting any work done, cause there's no real good info so far...
Vanguard - looks like bad graphics EQ1 type game... gameplay does not look revolutionary or interesting as it says.. Given, videos only show combat pretty much..
HJ - I don't know about the other aspects of the game, but I'm dissapointed with the animation of combat...
And, yea I agree alot of asian mmos follow the same exact formula as other asian mmos ( the formula of lineage2 in particular).. And simply I'm not a big fan of grinding either... But I bet more westerners (and including ppl like myself) would be more interested in Lineage2 (when it came out and such) if there wasn't that huge grind...
Its not that we are trying to flame anyone. Its that we get insulted by these topics. There are people who assume untrue things about us like the guy who called gameloading a metrosexual. Also our views of games are downgraded by the many flamers who played some crap free game and yell untrue statements. They also yell things that are also true or even worse in American games like the grind is worse in EQ then just about any asian mmorpg. Story in many is just as bad too "Monsters/Evil have invaded the lands and you must defend it." When I say prejudice I am not talking about racism. Racism is just a form of prejudice. When I say prejudice I mean that people prejudge a 40 million USD mmo as crap because they played a $500,000 mmo for free. Thats like me running around saying that because I played Blade Mistress that Dark Age of Camelot is crap. In the comparison about not liking chinese food. It would be like saying you don't like chinese sneakers because you don't like the taste of chinese food.
Also every asian mmo currently in the US has been released in Asia for over a year. Anyways just wait. You will see what the new crop of asian mmos has to offer.
Originally posted by Arcken Originally posted by Gameloading Originally posted by Salvatoris Originally posted by Dark1989 I just think people shouldn't have the stereotype that Asian made mmorpgs have inferior quality, especially when u try to rate a game and judge it base on what country it's from. The sad thing is that MMORPG.COM's ranking system is highly biased because of this, but people around the world think it's accurate and authoritative.
It's a pretty accurate stereotype. It takes more than a few months to make a quality game. They do not invest the development time needed to create the depth of content that is one of the most defining differences between Western and Korean MMOS.
And this is exactly what I am talking about.
Korean MMORPG's take just as long to make as Western MMORPG's. for example, AL,L2, both took over 4 years to make. Granado Espada, same story. RO2, again, same thing. been in development for years.
Everytime I see the name Gameloading, theres always a flame to be found shortly after. So we dont like Korean MMO's big freaking deal. I dont like swiss cheese, therefore I must hate the swiss. Not a big fan of Canadian bacon, well thats because I hate em too. When I was in college, I hung out with a couple Chinese guys who shared with me the concept of Yellow Fever.
Whats that you ask? Well its akin to the term "whigger" (slang for white folks usurping black culture). Except its reserved for the white guys who are the ultimate fanbois of eastern culture.
Granted I learned about it because they accused me of having yellow fever for trying to hang out in their little group and talk about martial arts and whatnot.
The point is, its not racist that we dont like Eastern games, anymore than its racist that eastern cultures dont particularly enjoy a product we in the western hemisphere produce.
I do not enjoy korean mmos one little bit. Does this mean I will never buy another pair of Nike's because I know theyre put together by some guy in Taiwan? Of course not! If I felt like Nikes were ugly and I didnt enjoy wearining them, I would tell people just that. It has nothing to do with who made em. It has everything to do with personal taste.
And further more, calling racism at this juncture is extremely tacky. Why dont you all head over to some Korean websites, learn some Korean, and complain about how crappy western MMO's are?
Because really its insulting that this post was started on a racism rant. You need to realize were all entitled to our opinion, and pulling a race card out just because most of us dislike korean mmos is about as low as y ou can take this forum. Congratulations.
P.S. Trust me when I say, white Americans arent extremely well liked across the board either, so lets all scream racism because most African Americans dont like country music.
I seriously recommend you learn what the word "Flame" actually means.where exactly did I "flame" in this thread? Because I proved someone wrong, I am "flaming"? I also strongly recommend you actually READ my posts carefully before you reply, because, judging from this post you just made, you didn't read it carefully enough.

yes, lets all quit playing MMORPG's because of politics...
Why there's plenty of games to play from countries with fair industry practices. England, Iceland, USA, *cough* France.

yeah, but is that really a reason to quit mmorpg? Because a game of a company that you have nothing to do with doesn't get fair treatment on the other side of the world?
How about this... people don't play them because they don't like them. Is that a good enough reason for you? I don't like the graphics style. I don't like characters in games with big heads, huge eyes and a sword bigger than they are. I don't like open PvP. I don't like games where there is nothing to do besides combat, whether it is in the form of quests or open field grinding.
I understand that not all Korean games share all of the aspects I don't like, but I can say i have never played one I enjoy. I have tried mostly "free" games, but i also bought Lineage 2 and found it to be exactly like the free games, but with slightly better graphics.
If you want people to stop having a negative view of Korean games, maybe you should post on Korean game forums and tell them to stop shoveling out shitty games. Or... you could just play Asian games and not worry about what everyone else likes.
