my prefered character class is no class. to many games limit items to certain classes, id rather it be that classes only effect your starting stats, and maybe a small number of unique spells only useable by your class, like it was in diablo one
At heart my favorite will always be a Ranger, I love being in deep woods IRL and have taken survival training (ever had deep fried caterpillars? taste like a cross between french fries and pork rinds). My first online character was a RAM (Ranger/Magic User) and I made it my niche to guide and rescue people, as well as teach them the fine art of dancing with beholders. I'm also a soloist who loves exploring every inch of a map and finding those odd out of the way spots few people ever see.
I also love multiclassing, this is one area that has been sadly let go by most games that I've played online. It's a way to give players a good chance to see what a variety of mixed classes can be capable of aside from the single class characters.
In practice I alway try to play every character type available, even the weird weak ones. I like games that give me a lot of character slots and hate games that lock me into just one character.
One character class that I never see is the one that I always RP (and kind of obvious from my name) I am a Chronomancer, a Time Mage. Time and history are my favorite subjects, this includes eccentric subjects like black holes and the nature of the universe. There are few games willing to even touch upon time spells but I would really love to someday see this class in a game.
Rogue type, definitely. I've been a Thief/Assassin in Ragnarok Online, Rogue in World of Warcraft, Hawker in Rose Online, aiming for a Blade in Flyff. I pretty much choose rogue-type for the dual-weapons and kickarse damage. Thief in FFXI didn't really give me that feeling though, so I went Monk.
I prefer hybrid type classes, such as Paladins and Shadowknights/Dark Knight. I hate being limited to just melee or casting.
"There's no star system Slave I can't reach, and there's no planet I can't find. There's nowhere in the Galaxy for you to run. Might as well give up now." Boba Fett
The middle ground kind of guy until: a) Its obvious they've nerfed him beyond use. b) Until they realize their jack of all trades is a one man army and nerf him.
I like being able to mix it up in fights but have unique buffing capabilities.
If I have to choose a class, I usually choose the Warrior/Tank type. My first real MMO was CoH and my first 50 was a Tanker; which is where I realized I loved being the main tank.
In EQ2 however, I enjoyed the Assassin class for a bit, and eventually moved to the Monk which was really fun.
Lately I have been playing NWN (Coop) and the Tank class(es) is(are) my favorite.
I love being able to stand toe-to-toe with any monster/creature in the game

These types of spells were included in NWN, and had some nifty effects. However, since they basically stopped everyone in the game from moving for 6 seconds, the spell quickly fell victim to griefers and hackers who would simply spam Time Stop (and do nothing else) for hours at a time. Last I heard, most of the open servers were banning anyone who even touched the spell.
Aside from this, I usually play Cleric-type classes. Smashing things with a sword is great fun, but I just can't live without the occasional Smite spell thrown into the mix. The only game so far I haven't played this type is WoW, where they mutated the Paladins into a sick and twisted delusion of what they should have been. I played a Rogue there, and loved every minute of it (until I quit from lack of non-raid content).
I would perfer to be rich, AKA the top 20'th percential in the USA
Poor class is gimped. And Middle Class is gonna get nerfed. The Rich are the Dev's favorite class.

I gotta go with Warrior because I know my healer IRL. There's nothing quite like a healer who understand how tough it is to be a GOOD tank and keep agro off him. Leihran comments with most pick up groups he has to tell the warrior he has agro where as I'm already taunting the agro off him from the first hit.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
blah
being bound to classes isn't fun, but if I had to choose one it would be a petclass. Even if they are mostly not the best to pvp with.
"If all magic fails, rely on three feet of steel and a strong arm"
Every time someone misspells "Rogue" as "Rouge", WoW gets a new subscriber.
OK, maybe not . . . but it would certainly explain the 7 million accounts now wouldn't it?
I like playing bard-like classes. I love buffing my team =]

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Any pet class...the more pets the better.
