Hello all

I'd like to hear what your style is and why you do it.

I do 'running away and screaming like a schoolgirl' style.

I find it the most usefull martial art for real life encounters.

Also starting on 'assuming the foetal position and crying' though there are some drawbacks to its use outside.

I don't do them. My six year old boy is in Tae Kwon Do and he loves it. The teachers there are really good with kids. My son is there for the things he was missing...discipline, self defense and respect. Now everything with my son is "Yes sir" and "Yes ma'am." Which is pretty amazing for a six year old boy.

LOL, prsonally I think you're just lucky to have a good kid. Most asshole kids these days would probably start kicking your butt with their new moves they learned :)

I do Shaolon Kempo martial arts. I've been doing it for about 11 years now (well, a little less, but close), and I just love it. The people I work with are great, and the techniques are fun. I just love it...

For anyone else...if you plan on doing martial arts or your kids do it, some advice: If you walk into a place and you see a blackbelt under the age of say 14, just leave. If you see a 6 or 7 year old one (which I have seen before...) then something is seriously wrong. Just my 2 cents.

I did Tae Kwon Do for about two years, but quit when I was 10. I started doing it because my dad wanted me to, but ended up enjoying it. I quit because it started conflicting with other sports.

Not really amazing. More.. Obnoxious. Sure, kids should show respect - But "Yes sir" and "Yes ma'am" for a 6 year old, sounds like the army way.

I did Hyung Gil style Tao Kwon Do for several years, but quit because the instructor was having an affair with a student...who's husband was also a student...and if the guy is going to be talking about how Martial Arts are about respect, and then going and doing stuff like that, I'm not gonna buy into that.

I prefer Aikido, because it's the only one I've found that's a pure self-denfese martial art.

I practice this art form where I pick a fight with a black belt, then pull a gun on them and see how effective they are. So far I'm undefeated.

I did Brazillian Ju Jitsu for a bit back in high school, it was fun and an amazing workout.  The only bad part is when I realized my (upcomming at that point) pitching career would be over if I got into 1 to many arm bars.  It is fun getting people to tap-out but it is not so fun when you get yourself choked-out by a California state champ training there, who happens of course to be a girl.  That was a rough day for the ol' ego.

I've always thought about studying Shao Lin myself, though I think ill start with something simpler, like Tae Kwon Do.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Three years of Pseudo-McDojo Wado Ryu Karate experience.

One year of Taekwon-do from one of my country's best instructors. I smeggin' love Taekwon-do. In the future, I'd like to try Krav Maga and/or Jeet Kune Do aswell. But I'll likely never quit Taekwon-do.

Im a black belt dan 2 in Tae Kwon Do, which ive been doing for about 5 or 6 years.

And a provisional black belt in Haidong Gum Do, which is a little known Korean Sword art, which ive been doing for 2 or 3 years. (Ive refused to go to black belt because of the rediculous price set by the head instructor of Australia, I dont think greed has any place in martial arts)

Im taught by the same instructor.

I'm a rising noob in  Jeet Kune Do after going about 5 years in Karate, 1 year in Ninjitsu and Jujitsu and some training here and there with She Quan and another forum which I can't remmber. I also try to copy moves from movies and video games. I once known a guy who became a martial artist in his home just by watching, studing, practcing and training though watching martial arts movies such as Bruce Lee, Bruce Lee's brother, Jackie Chan, etc.

Actually, it's something I've told him already not to call me. I've never been comfortable with being called sir. I'd rather just be called dadimage To me being good and listening is a better way to show respect.

    Im a jedi
  • Wrestled from 8 to 18.  Then did Shorinji Ryu karate and Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu for about 5 years.

Why?  I like to grapple always have always will.  Don't care about competition but I'd spare all day.  For me grappling is like srufing for some people, thinking without thinking.
