For Sony to ship the PS3 by Christmas, all the blue laser diodes need to be used for that box rather than the blu-ray home entertainment players. Since it's been three or four years ago now that I saw the first blu-ray player, you would think because the early Sony high definition displays won't play a Sony movie from a Sony player in high definition, I expect massive complaints and demands for free upgrades or money back.Sony would've done a better job planning wouldn't you? How many years does it take for them to order parts.
The Wii will come out on top for the first year or two then then 4 or 5 years from now the PS3 will be on top. Saying Nintendo makes poor quality games is utter crap, sure! you may not like there style of games and there kiddish nature but the way they develop them and the amount of time they take making games is absolute gold. Nintendo will not win the console war in the long run but they will continue to create innovative quaility games. Sony's consoles sell very very well long after they come out from what I can tell. There is not going to be a PS4, Im almost positive Sony anounced it wont make another console for 10 years. Sony doesnt have another chance if they fuc* it all up this time. Nintendo is heading in a completly diffrent direction then everybody else, they are appeling to a totally diffrent demographic. Nintendo is the only console, in I think ever! to make money on hardware. which they can use to make better software/hardware later on.
Ha! you cant say yet that HD -DVD has been beaten by Blu-Ray we wont know that till sometime next year. Yeah Blu-Ray has more supporter and HD-DVD has fewer but you fail to account for the size and magnitude of the companies that support each.
Well after reading (most of) the thread i just want to add that, i definitly think that:
The Wii is/will be a comercial success, because of the price of the system/games, different stance/originality and capturing a new player base that normally dont play console games (be it people who thought that the controllers were too difficult to use or PC gamers who wants to play something diferent) .
The PS3 will be the loosing console for a while in my opinion, till they start actually using the hardware they got and show the console superior capacities, the problem is will it be too late then?
The Xbox 360 as a headstart and already got some amazing looking game but, it doesnt have the power of the PS3 or the originality of the Wii.
My guess is, the Wii will be largely the most sold system with the other two systems following behine close to each other.
I've been saying that it's going to be xbox 360, Revolution(refuse to call it Wii...sounds like you wanna pee), and PS3 ever since the price points were announced. All the fanboys and and ebayers were the ones buying the PS3 at launch. Xbox 360 has more and better games with as good or better graphics than PS3 games. Revolution has the old school Mario's and Zeldas that people just cant get enough us...plus it's cheap! I was even playing Rainbow Six: Vegas on Xbox live the other day and in my group was a guy who worked for Gamespot. He said he got a PS3 and hates it. Says his 360 is soooo much better.
Add in the fact also that Microsoft has Halo 3 coming out next year and another Halo RTS AND they finally got the rights to the GTA series at the same time as Sony....that equals 360 being the winner. It's a proven fact that the majority of gamers are right around the 30 year old mark. Most people I know dont want to be waving around their arms for 3 hours so they arent getting the Revolution. And most of us who arent fanboys of the Zelda's and Marios have moved on looooong ago from the kiddie Nintendo products.
It's too early to say whether Blu Ray or HD DVD will win that format war so I think the inclusion of it on the PS3 is also not a factor to the people looking to buy a PS3. I for one will stick with my 360 until the PS3 comes down at least another 200.00 for the 600.00 version(I know I'll get one eventually) and I wont be getting a Revolution since they dont have any games that interest me.
Now that I have some time to make a better reply, I fully support the 360. It's not just the graphics. There are so many things about the system that make it very nice. There's the integrated dash, the fact it can play music (even over a network!) while playing another game, the live service and how it provides goals that you can make and show off, how easy the controllers are to use... I've heard quite a few complaints about how clunky the PS3 is and how one might as well be setting up a computer.
The Wii might do very well at what it's for, but it's aiming for a different market. It might very well make a great secondary console, but I can't say I'm too interested right now except for perhaps the infamous Melee game.
PS3 may not look all that better graphics wise right now because it was just releeased. Not all release day games are all that great looking anyways.
If you have been paying attention to the PS2 or X-Box throughout the years you would notice that the game graphics got better if the creators of the game chose to use the PS2 to its limits. Samething with the XBox. So in the long run PS3 and its processors will have better looking games. And about the gameplay...just becasue you don't like certain games doesnt mean that they outright suck.
And X-BOX 360 PLUS A HD-DVD IS 600 DOLLARS!! THE PS3 JUST INCLUDES THE BLU-RAY WITH THE PS3 ALREADY. Plus BLU-RAY IS a new thing right now so you want see many movies out for it.
"Dont unthinkingly follow authorities, whether intellectual, political or religious. And dont unthinkingly follow traditions, or social conventions. Think for yourself. Look at the facts, and try to base you're views and your behavior on how things actually are."
Oh and the 360 had its problems when it first came out as well. So Sony will have "patches" or upgrades 4 download as well to fix those problems...
"Dont unthinkingly follow authorities, whether intellectual, political or religious. And dont unthinkingly follow traditions, or social conventions. Think for yourself. Look at the facts, and try to base you're views and your behavior on how things actually are."
Although I buy a 360 and kinda like it. I didn't buy a Wii or a PS3 yet, and I will wait to see a game I want to play to buy it first. But...I still spent most of my gaming time on computer...so, consoles have a lot of work to do to catch up, for me at least. Personnally, Nintendo never impress me and I always find theirs games to be lacking and backward, despite all their claims on gameplays. Yet, this is only my personnal opinion and I am open to change it, based on game...but RPGs and Strategies games are prolly going to lack a lot on Nintendo, so...again, for me that ain't really an alternative. Advance Wars on the DS outmatch everything I saw on the GC and on the Nintendo, and despite been a good game, it isn't that good to justify such a ranking, it is only a DS after all; and it is pretty hard to compete with static gaming systems...yet not impossible, but the more I see it, the less I believe in Nintendo in general.

Hmm? Who won the last two console wars by an immense landslide? Oh ya playstation. I guess I will bet on it.
I posted the following in another thread but, I don't know where so I will retype it here.
Wii is overpriced. The hardware IS ABOUT equal to Xbox1. That is not an opinion. Except Wii has no HDD and does not play DVD's. However motion sensors should cancel the HDD and DVD out so the final price of the Wii should be about $150 the same as an Xbox1. Gamestop has the nunchuk add-on for $20 so apparently the motion sensors don't cost that much. They are using their competitors high but reasonable prices to over-charge for theirs and have it still appear cheap. Not a serious problem but, a few people playing as on the Wii commercials have broken their TV's. If they wouldn't have had the commercials then the instruction manual would support them but, it can't because of their commercials.
Xbox 360- Nice graphics but, software based. The software can't exceed the hardware. Software is easy to fix/upgrade while hardware on a console is pretty much non-existent. The price is nice unless you want HD movies. Doesn't play HD-DVD's unless you buy the add-on which is $200. So it then costs $600. (Using the more expensive models on the ps3 and xbox 360 since they are better) To my knowlege a non-upgradable HDD which is only 20gb. To my knowlege does not support true HD 1080i. To my knowlege has a fee to PLAY multiplayer games online(not demos). http://www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com/ Have to click on the link on the left to get to all the movies available. Looks like less than 30.
PS3- same price as xbox 360 if you want HD movies. Supports true HD. Many many more movies available for blu-ray. http://www.blu-raydisc.com/products/Section-14017/Index.html Official blu-ray site. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/ Not to mention blu-ray holds what 2x as much as hd-dvd. Big deal for games. Means more extensive games and better graphics. Supports all HD. No online play fee. 60gb upgradeable HDD. Uses laptop HDDs. Uses linux and have already heard people have downloaded emulators and can play pretty much any old video game just like you can do on PC. Best hardware. Which means eventually its' graphics will be the best. Also, considering to buy a blu-ray player it will cost over $900, that feature alone makes it price good.
I am not a fanboi this is just what I came up with after seriously thinking which console I should buy. I still don't know when I will buy one though it could be a couple years. Though, with the trash currently coming out on PC there isn't much here, except Dark Messiah.

i respect your opinion, but dont believe that youre reasoning will hold true here. btw, who won the console wars of the 80s? Oo thats right, Nintendo. definitely think that they still have a chance. especially since everyone that ive talked to loves the Wii. the ps3 unit at our local Walmart overheats, takes forever to load, and isnt much better on graphics than the 360. on top of that, the motion sensing controllers for the ps3 suck so bad that the customers dont even try to play with it enabled. i think that they all are awesome looking and priced systems, but i think its way too early to tell who the clear winner of the console wars is going to be.
Personally I don't give a damn about any of the systems, I'll go with my computer. However I am very much a shit disturber so with that Gamespot has direct screenshot comparisons of some of the ports.
To all the people saying it is to early to judge who is winning the console war. Too early is before it is released, once it hits stores it is all fair game.
when judging people we place vaule on 1st impressions and even comparing console war to real war, the opening battle is often important factor, if not on the outcome then on morle and hype if nothing else.
Personally throwing in my 2 cents, Wii did a great job starting out and I think with its contorls and gamepy it can be what brings Nintendo back to the top of the console market.

One correction.. THe Xbox360 does support 1080i... what it doesn't support is 1080p The difference... is One frame in 1080p is about double the size of a frame in 1080i... No that doesn't mean that that it's a larger picture... 1080i is interlaced... which means that on the first from they display the first half of the image kind of and on the second frame they display the other half of the image.. while 1080p just pumps it out in one go... This means that 1080p video is much smoother than 1080i

Thats the only part I will dispute. The console wars of the 80's are irrevelant since niether of the current competitors were present and gaming was not main-stream back then.

this is true, but me point is still valid. Nintendo did win the console wars of the 80s against a superior competitor, actually 2 superior competitors. Nintendo can do it again. thats me poiint.
i respect your opinion, but dont believe that youre reasoning will hold true here. btw, who won the console wars of the 80s? Oo thats right, Nintendo
True, Nintendo totally owned Playstation and Xbox back in the 80's.........
haha, good one. youre right, playstation and xbox werent in the 80s, but sega and NEC were. and they had superior systems and still lost. Nintendo can do THAT again. got anything else youd like to nitpick on?
EDIT: oO and btw, both of those competitors are in league with Nintendo now, and many of the games that were exclusives for those systems will be available to Nintendo owners only. How cool would it be in a couple years to see Sony games that were exclusive to playstation systems playing on Nintendo products, lol. and before you declare that it will never happen, go back in time and tell Sega that theyd be making games for Nintendo products in a few years.

On paper you are correct, however the ps3 has already proven to be a complete and total bitch to program for, so it could very well be a few years before we see the quality of graphics rise above the 360 on any respectable level.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

The difference... is One frame in 1080p is about double the size of a frame in 1080i... No that doesn't mean that that it's a larger picture...
1080i is interlaced... which means that on the first from they display the first half of the image kind of and on the second frame they display the other half of the image..
while 1080p just pumps it out in one go... This means that 1080p video is much smoother than 1080i
The 360 does support 1080p.......I can open the menu and take a picture of it with my cellphone if you require proof.

this is true, but me point is still valid. Nintendo did win the console wars of the 80s against a superior competitor, actually 2 superior competitors. Nintendo can do it again. thats me poiint.

haha, good one. youre right, playstation and xbox werent in the 80s, but sega and NEC were. and they had superior systems and still lost.
