I'm the program director for the radio broadcast at GameSHOUT, (you can find us on iTunes, Singing Fish, and Yahoo as well as on GameSHOUT.com). We have a great show called The MMO Show and we often get some perks to give away.
I just gave away several beta keys for SOE's Vanguard: Saga of Heroes to members of this forum...nice folks and glad to share with friends here. For this reason I want to pass on some more information.
I know of a small independent game company called Red Planet Games. They are developing for a January 2007 release, a game called Lost Colony. The game looks like a cross between Halo 2, BF2142, and some aspects of Planetside but with tons of weekly updated content. They say we'll NEVER pay for an expansion pack with this game and i like that too. Check them out and sign up for the beta at http://www.LostColonyGame.com .
I'll let you all know if I run into more betas. I am trying to get more keys for Vanguard too...

If you would prefer, I would be happy to offer information and keys to other sites instead of here, but that would be sad...the people i have met here to this point have been very nice and I would prefer doing nice things like that for nice people.

Please don't let my initial posting deter you from becoming part of our community. I think I've gotten so used to yelling at goldfarmers using the forums to advertise, I start seeing red at anything with a link to a website. And I will admit I'm not fond of Lost Colony, for the reason I mentioned in the first post. Too many people getting burned by pre-order scam artists over the last year. This does not mean that Lost Colony is a scam, just that anything with "pre-order" attached to it with no real testing of the game to know that it's "real" and might be worth it is just too big a risk for some of us to take anymore.
At any rate, sorry if I came off too strong. Welcome to the forums.
Right before the boards got reset somone made a post about this game called
"move over planet side".Im not sure if it was this guy or not but most of the discusscion
was trying to figure out if this game was some vaporware scam showing proof of concept to
fool investors.At least this time they have a web site that looks like someone spent 10 minutes

Thank you for the reply Zorvan. I don't want to do much more than identify some interesting MMOs that I sometimes get access to. I do understand the concern about advertising here and respect that. I will be careful not to sound as if I am doing so.
As for Lost Colony, I have downloaded and played on their test server, on the alpha build. They seem to have nice physics and the environments are also pretty cool. I do like the concept art but the pics above are some early versions. I found newer models in their Art forums. They are working diligently to produce a game for a community that has gotten tired of the BF and Planetside scene, with a touch of Halo 2 thrown in for good measure I think. But I don't think this is a rip-off of Planetside as much as it seems to be a parallel to it with a deeper storyline. As a reporter I am under a DND agreement not to spoil the storyline but it is interesting.
I will see if I can get permission to post the test download link here for you to look into it further if you wish. But I see this as a small game company of real gamers trying to create a game that is actually involved with their community. They even accepted one of their faction logos from a community member. That is refreshing to me.
Well enough of that. I am still trying to get more Vanguard keys from my SOE PR rep but will not get an answer until after the New Year. No promises as I have received more than 30 more requests than I had keys. It was the first that responded that were lucky to get them. I hope to have one for each and every one of these additional requests but it doesn't look extremely hopeful. Sorry to those I could not help but I will personally answer each request, one way or the other.

I had seen the first thread you guys had on this. Then found this one.
You where right on track with the first thread...
LC is Garage Games torque demo.. stripped down to 1 model 1 gun 1 building and with a MMO pack from a 3rd
party. You guys are all MMO vets so you and I both know that's not enough for a 50 buck game.
LC has silenced a lot of voices on it's forum but
I think it's good just to research it and draw your own opinions.

It's the holidays, which means, school is out, and the same 7 people from the Planetside forums that are lying, calling our game a scam, and promoting this "drama" have already come here and signed up under aliases pretending to be developers, or a Torque pros.
The difference between them and our company is, we have been developing Lost Colony for a over a year, and we're actually going to have a nice game for people to play and enjoy.
Some of you that say our game "sucks" surely didn't read the Installation documentation that is shown during the install. It said that the test server (which is moving closer to beta) is not a FULL GAME. We've been running the tests to make sure we have a large market of compatible hardware and video cards that are out there.
Dont get caught up with their circus of drama. Lost Colony is real, and it's moving forward on the launch without delay.
There are a lot of people involved with the Lost Colony project, which means, when you call this project a scam or try to play it down like it's no big deal, you are hurting a lot of other Torque devs that have been involved with this project. You offend them, not just Red Planet.

Additionally, they are not charging $50 for this game, but only $20. They will be adding weekly content to go along with a storyline and i find that fascinating. I also like the fact that they are a small company and actually interacting and yes, even listening to the game community. That is pretty remarkable in this day and age of MMOs. When was the last time someone at Blizzard, Sony, or even EA Games actually listened to their community? They have even promised that no one will ever pay for an expansion to this game. How many expansions have you EQII players paid for? And us WoW players? BC is due out on the 16th of Jan and the collector's edition will be $70...for an expansion! (I really want the rare pet...lol.)
Well...lol...enough said. It's just another beta as far as i'm concerned but I do find some things about this MMO-FPS kind of interesting, and like I said, I have requested permission to post the link for the test server download and if I receive that permission, I will post it here for all to see and judge for themselves.
In the mean time, if I can get my Vanguard game to launch...lol...maybe I'll see you in there too. I keep getting a "missing .dll" error and it looks like i'll have to uninstall and reinstall. Let me know if any of you guys run into that too.

hehe jk, but someone was going to say it.(some people having that problem did not have updated directx,from october so try that?) just a heads up if word gets out you are going to give a vanguard key to anyone who asks you, you're going to get about 5000 pm's.
anyway, as far as the test temo for that game..i just went to their site, clicked the download button, instealled, and ran it with no account or anyting and i played on the test server as marine3
Why are you talking 3rd party? You own the URL for Lostcolonygame right?
ON the LC website it says $50 the pre order is $20 but that's not including monthy fee. Which starts billing on Jan 1st according
to the order form.

And Vis, I own nothing. I work for a corporation for GameSHOUT as a reporter and broadcaster and try to maintain objectivity. And as for the $50, I don't know where you got that but I was just on their site and there is nothing about $50. I also played the Burning Crusade closed beta and found flaws but I didn't see you screaming from the rooftops about how bad the game was because of a few beta flaws. and where were you for the Auto Assault beta when we REALLY needed you??? LOL
Well I really don't care what your deal is as you simply came into this forum and misstated facts and misrepresented other information as your first post. But I hope you are there when we try other betas too...we need you to protect us. lol... I for one don't even judge from betas let alone alphas. I just report what is interesting and review only finished product. Seen my review of EA's Madden 2006? LOL...i really miss 2K Sport's ESPN Football from 2004...what a great game. Anyway, good luck.

Look at your 1st post. You say your from gameshout and that you heard of a company called Red
Planet making a game called LC.
You guys OWN LC's website so you didn't "hear" of the game it's your game.
Please disclose this kind of info. Your acting like a 3rd party but your LC staff not a 3rd party gamer.
And stooping to Vanguard to hid your lack of any content in a game scheduled to launch in 2 days and
has been accepting Pre order money for a few weeks.
BTW anyone notice that Huxley has a page but LC does not on Non released games listing?
I think that's because the MMORPG.com folks know LC is vaporware.

I want people here to enjoy all of the beta opportunities that I come across as the Program Director of a gaming site and radio broadcasting company. I have given several Vanguard keys to folks here and am trying to get more for them, and that also was no lie.
So son, I think you might want to get back to your books when you go back to school next week and pay special attention to your own affairs...like spelling and grammer.
Other than that, I think you might let these people look at what ever games they want without your juvenile interference. I mean, I don't know just who at our parent company crapped in your Cheerios but I think you ought to let it go and spend your time on more constructive endeavors.

PS: I just received word through email that Red Planet Games will be updating their test server with alpha version 0.50, a huge upgrade, tonight or tomorrow AM and I will be able to post the link for you all to see for yourselves.
I have also submitted several requests to Rannie, our SOE PR rep. about more Vanguard keys. Those of you that have written me and have not yet received a response, please be patient as they will likely not have more to us until after the 2nd of January, IF they are able to give us more to share with you. Either way, each of you WILL receive a personal response to your email. I will not leave you hanging.
Lastly, for those of you who have complemented us on our podcasts, thank you. <blush>
PPS: ...lol...sorry for the multiple edits, but they said to post the link anytime just as long as you understand that this big update is coming and when. They said that it is very close to the beta stage. You already know the website to officially sign up for the beta if you wish, (LostColonyGame.com) and the link to download the client is http://download.LostColonyGame.com/LostColonyTest.exe. . It's only about 26MB as most of the files are server-side. (link fixed...sorry...my error.)

Well if you scroll down a tad according to Mr mavericks sig hes a developer for thelostcolony currently locked away developing for the game.With that begs the question why the hell he would come here giving away vangaurd accounts.
I wouldnt trust downloading that .exe either proballey 26 megs of spyware and trojans.
