I would resubscribe but maybe only for a month. It would be lonely with out the people I used to play with, you know? We'd have to see. But yes, a classic server really is the only way I'd ever give SWG another chance.
It would depend on how "classic" it really was. If they could some how find a way to keep all the good stuff that the players want and still give them pre-cu combat and gameplay, then yeah I would come back.
How long have people been saying this? months? its gotta be a year now. SoE dont deserve a penny, they dont even deserve your attention. So dont give it to them.

So far, and AS far as I can tell, Sony came along one day and launched an update or two and then that was it for many of you. Right? or no? Story sounds very intersting to me and that's why I read this whole post. Maybe someone can explain SWG's demise more precisely to me?

The server goes down for a new publish (I think there was a 2 day notice, dunno, I have to check when I cancelled my sub, because that would be the day).
The server comes back up and the game is totally a different place. Your skills and all of your items that you obtained over the years are useless, or gone.
The Devs didn't care if they crapped on us or not.
Pre CU, pre NGE, yeah, I'd come back. I miss bounty hunting. Most fun I've ever had in a game. Detective work, getting inside your oppoent's head, finding the right time to take them down. Btw, rather than starting a new thread or whatnot about it, does anyone know of another MMORPG where you can hunt other players say rather than just full on PvP?
you want to know what exactly happened to SWG? Its like this, the game was going in a great direction and then they had a major beta testing about a new upgrade to the game. With everyone grinding hundred's of thousands points to become whatever they wanted their toon to be, SWG upgrade eveything and took everyones hard earned time and effort away, in one upgrade. The upgrade changed they game so drastically that it left a ton of people with actually losing things they worked soo hard for. Combat medics were useless, everyone lost right to using certain armor, and it was a complete debocle. The whole upgrade just took things away with out even considering what the players wanted or what they worked soo hard for. I was basically a major SLAP in the face from SOE to all its paying customers. Thats why everyone left. So SWG is really a dead game and will never be trusted by many gamers again.
They can't even finish the NGE. I wouldn't expect to see them start Pre-CU back up and finish that. Especially since many design decisions that they made from day 1 of the game, put it in the dire straits the game was in before the CU and the NGE. The CU was supposed to fix the problems that they made (*COUGH* DOC BUFFS, COMP ARMOR *COUGH*) then came the NGE.
If some other company got the Pre-CU rights and had time to develop it into a proper game. Sure. I would return. But I know thats not going to happen.
i have my 2 accounts and 30 a month waiting but SOE dont want my money..if they did they'd open up several classic servers say at pub 8 with bug fixes up to 13 and leave it alone..funny how we all know(vets that is) if just 1 classic server was put up and we all started from scratch it would fill up and pop cap in less than an hour...can anyone say that about a NGE server or a CU one?? didnt think so..
Game died april 05 for me but i stuck around till nov 06 cause it was still fun.so i kept 2 active accounts for 3 solid years but my money wasnt good enough i dont guess...sigh i fear a game like precu wil never exsist thanks to the blunders of all involved..so we get 5000000000000000000000 wow clones with swords and dragons and elfs....fun..NOT
I'd consider coming back. I loved SWG prior to the jedi influx and the subsequent "consolization" and dumbing down of the game mechanics and the game itself. It went from the ultimate sandbox MMO to the exact polar opposite.
I'd like to see a new SWG, perhaps leaving the prewritten timeframe of this one (something I never really liked, being in a somewhat scripted world) to a new one in perhaps an Expanded Galaxy environment.
Go vote at the lucasarts poll for the best version of SWG. From 1/30/07 to 2/06/07 they will be conducting a poll to see what version people like the best. If you are a vet of SWG and wanna tell L.A. and SOE that they screwed up, nows your chance. Obviously they are listening now, or want to listen or they would not have posted this poll. Make your voice heard and vote before it's too late.
