It's called the tab key.. centres on the nearest target to you, if you hit tab again it moves to the next closest
there is also a key to centre on the nearest monster. You DON'T have to use your mouse to check someone out.
As for actually checking their level and what job they are.. that can be done with a simple "check" command. You can also see what equiment they are wearing, and if they are selling anything.
to click on someone is to use the 0, F7, F8 key...you should read the f*c&ing manual before playing this game...jeez havent seen so many dumb people thinking that you will use a mouse to play this game...

I played FFXI for a few months got to lvl 35-40 with RDM and some BLK sub. Its not that FFXI sucked but it was disapointing in that lack on things to do. All I could think about while I was playing was how they could of done this better (and i know they could of). They come up with realy killer lvling systems like for FFX and FFT cool magic systems like FF7, FF3/FF6. Why couldnt they come up with another killer system when it realy counted when it REALY REALY makes the game.
I think I just hyped it up to much. Hearing about chocobos I thought maybe I can raise them and race them (FF7) or have them as a battle pet (FFT), but no. Also forging sounded fun but...way hard and expensive.
Each Final Fantasy had its own super cool idea, battle system, and side quests. Why not take everything we already loved and change it into a Super Final Fantasy Online.
FFXI is a fun enough game but the one day I relized that all im going to be doing for the rest of it is spending to long looking for a party and hours lvl grinding I became very sad .
I know that. Hes saying people are dumb for thinking that you should use a mouse on a PC game... Hello... almost all games use a mouse so how are they dumb for thinking that? Besides that, the game is set up for a PS2, if I wanted a PS2 game I would go buy a PS2.

Well...it was set up for the PS2 at first for the Japanese version back when it first released but with the American release, it brought the keyboard WASD movement and key customization. That is what the leader of my LS says, that it.

Everyone interested in this game should be paying attention to the above, because it sums up Final Fantasy XI perfectly. You will experience 80-90% of the game by the time you hit Level 30 -- everything will simply feel too familiar to be exciting. The end-game is not much different than the mid-level game, with the level grind *being* the main attraction. The *only* caveat to the game are the Missions, and alone, they do not make up for the grind you have to enjoy going through as a way of life.
You will only enjoy this game if you love Everquest, but for some reason want to start all over again.
If someone got into MMORPG's for level grinding and phat lewt, im sorry to tell you this but you got into them for all the wrong reasons. Never in a thousand years will a developer aim to make a game for level grinding and phat lewt, they all want to make a better world than one like that. They want to make a world where you can play a unique character and go on adventures, watch your character advance with fond memories of friends and adventure. I remember playing Final Fantasy VII will never forget beating the first form of sephiroth in the final battle, cloud was the only one standing with very little hp... boom LIMIT BREAK--- OMNISLASH and sephiroth goes down, or in EQ when I was trekking across the Karanas and got ambushed by a Lion at the foot of the ramp to highpass only to be saved by a High Elven Priestess (or cleric). Developers want to make a game where your character's life will play out like a good fantasy novel. As for FFXI, if you play for story and relationships rather than levels and lewt, you will have a much better time in game.
As above, that's relatively true for any game you play. Levelling and lewt make any game boring, and without community or relationships, most MMORPG's will just disappear off the map. The problem I had with FFXI is the lack of community. Much of the singlemindedness of the people levelling made me decide to end my 30-day trial
ffxi does not suck it very time consuming the grp take 4 ever to start xping goblin trains everywhere, cant xp alone unless u want to take 3-4 to lv by your self running around trying to find something to kill, money comes real hard on this game and auction prices are insane, i dont have a problem with the japs and others. but i cant seem to have fun in this game im still trying to see if i can enjoy this game or maybe cause im at a low lv and the game is on the same path till a certain lv.

I knew I would find a post here from you, hehe.
I am still playing, and it is getting better and better as I go. I am perfectly fine with people posting their comments on the boards, even when they think a game stinks. Doesn't mean I won't like it, I never know if I like a game until I play it for a while and see. In fact, I have learned to NEVER go by what people's opinions are in general, becasue everyone has different tastes. So if you don't like FFXI, there are so many other games out there.
Personally I think there are many better than Anarchy Online. To me, that is one of the worst, but I only go by the first 4-5 months after release. Don't tell me to go back and try it now because it is so much better, blah, blah . . . I am not going to ever play again, not after my experience with it. It sucked, but I know that, cuz I played it.
SO the point I am getting at is to not let peoples opinions sway your decisions on what to play and what not to play. Try out the games that you may be interested in and you'll know. The only problem with this is you have to pay, at least for the boxed game. Then you usually have a month of trial to play it, but even that is not really enough time to make a really good judgement on a MMORPG (high-end gameplay could be a lot better than the early stuff). Crap, there is still so much of FFXI for me to see, and I can't wait.
1 more thing i dont like about ffxi is the character development they all go by the game stats so u cant build your own character stats which i wanted to do on the game
Well try incorporating the stat system with the job system. Plus mostly all rpg have the point alocation system to stat wich make all mmorpg the same... or mostly.
Another thing is that stat alocation kill the class difference, and cause some unbalance issues...
Imagine a Paladin going all Vitality... Suposing they would give 2 point to alocate per level... at 50 the paladin would have 100 vit... huhu wich mean no one would ever damage him using physical... shiny!!
Imo, the curent system is good enough with the skill point.
By powergaming in an rpg games you are forgotting the true essence of the rpg : Role. Playing. Game.
well i guess everyone has their own opinion about this game...so i dont care anymore...sigh...everyone seems to hate FF11 for some reason..when they havent even gave it a try.....i know its hard to lvl at the first couple of lvls..but as you get higher...the more xp you will get from harder monsters at some certain areas...so if those who hates FF11..go ahead...but this game will be online for life.....pretty much like EQ ...

I did not say I hated the game. I am neutral to pursuing any aspects within FFXI. I made level 16 as a White Mage, purely soloing. This game is hard to solo for xp, so grouping is crucial. Trying to find a group was what finally killed it for me. I hated wasting 2 to 3 hours of my time finding groups. That's why I came to the conclusion of lack of community. There might be better communities on other servers, but there wasn't any on mine.
On a side note, the economy was very easy in this game. I bought and traded items in the bazaar, and was able to work up to 100,000 gil by the time I levelled 16. This was my only pure enjoyment in the game.
well in any massively online game..its the same thing for partying..it does take a long time to find the right group....well i guess finding a group is pure luck..but if there was 5 people looking for a group at the same time..then you could have made a new group..and bring them somewhere to fight...easy as that...or /sea all 16 for all lvl 16s around the world..you can /tell them if their headed to were your fighting and ask if they could join your group..i bet they will be gradually to join...

Thats not true, most games are easy to find a group. In EQ I never waited more than 15 minutes. In CoH I havent had to wait 5 minutes yet. In FFXI it sometimes takes hours.

The only game that it has taken me more than 30 minutes to find a group is FFXI and I've played 90% of MMORPGs that hit the market from EQ on. I can tell from your posts that you have no problem getting a group on your FFXI server and I'm happy for you. Ramuh is not so kind and has driven alot of people I played with to quit.
well give FF11 a chance...its only be online for north america for 4 months now...it havent been released all over the world yet...EQ was online for more then couple of years now....so it has increase its population...also EQ had the same problem...people were leaving in couple of months when EQ was first released...EQ reached 1 million then it fell to thousands...after few years....gamers put new patches and now its growing...so if you wait for FF11 programmers to add more stuff into the game...then the population of players will increase....

YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER "The Vision"
FFXI English comunity is now better than ever.
With the release of the north american FFXI for PS2 there is now more American playing the games.
Any game can have a good comunity, you just have to search for it... some are easier to find some not... good luck!
