I can not begin to say how dissapointed I am with this stupid game... or how much manure Sigil tried to shove down our throat. Third gen this, content that, blah blah.
Hopefully Age of Conan will provide a new gaming experience.
I predict this game will be virtually dead in 4 months... then it's the old free trial and possibly a new expansion to "fix" the game. It is an evolution of former MMORPGs... They managed to evolve more lag that Shadowbane, more empty space than Horizons, larger UI buttons than WoW, more death penalty than EQ, and more hype than EQII!
I hope that folks didn't give up good jobs to work at Sigil.

Couple of reasons why I'm dissapointed now that I vented a little...
1. There is no content, no fun dungeons, beggining quests are BEYOND mundane (save for diplomacy... but I'm not playing an MMORPG to play cards, I'll log on to partypoker for that...). Please don't get all excited about the character creation... I can just start and stop Neverwinter Nights 2 over and over again without paying someone a monthly fee... it's like paying someone to kick you in the junk.
2. I have a MONSTER machine and I still need to do Mort's tweaks and all that crap for the game to be playable. It still lags like no brother's mother. Don't dare believe the hype that come Jan 29 it all goes away... it's not.. it's the same thing as Shadowbane... which killed a game way ahead of its time BTW.
3. Combat is same crap... click some hotkeys when they glow. Aren't we sick of this yet??? Can someone besides DDO please at least make me feel like my skill affects combat??
4. ZERO feeling of playing something new... I feel like I found a new zone in EQII or something. Can I have some out of the box thinking???
Next...
I am the Cannon Fodder God
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
Maybe it's time for a new guild?
Good questions... yes I played to level 10 once and am now at level 6 before I stopped. I have an XPS 600 with every option you can buy on it... it runs every game I ever played full out without virtually ever seeing slowdowns... don't give me the well build your own computer out of parts sold on EBAY crap. I'd like Sigil to overclock the game not my computer. Ever think maybe you like playing with your guild? If I go to a bad strip joint with my buddies I still have fun... Combat incredibly deep stuff is a complete lie, IT IS THE SAME DAMN STUFF WITH DIFFERENT NAMES. What in god's name is deep about it. I sit there... hit a mob... it attacks... I dodge... WOW I CAN NOW DEBUFF HIM!!! cmon, really
So you played the game for 6 months... that doesn't make it good. I've been paying taxes for 10 years and I still hate that shit.

I get some lag, but I get lag in EQ2 too. Play isn't too much different than EQ2 for me. Performance could be, and will be better. It keeps getting better slowly but surely.
You probably did not get too deep into combat at that level. There are some more things you can do than what you are saying and i have posted this in another thread. It isn't anything that is 3rd Gen, but some of it is pretty cool like the spell counters, chains, and sympathies.
For those that hate VG, go to another forum, lol.
the game currently plays like a late CB/early OB game--not much different than most of the others i've beta'd. performance reqs are definitely at the upper end of games out there right now. makes me happy i just bought an 8800 gtx as i get 40-50 fps on 1600 x 1050 at the highes rez. then again, anyone who is planning on really enjoying some of the upcoming titles needs to have a bit of horsepower on their gpu.
ppl who were looking for a true next gen mmo were probably either not paying attention to the interviews and leaks, or were just wishful thinkers.
will this game keep me playing past beta? not really sure as i haven't seen much of the content post 10. but the near histrionic responses pro/con on these boards indicates other motives than simply judging the fun factor of the game... me thinks.
peace
Please don't start conspiracy theories...
The reason so many people are upset is because you NEVER ever promise more than you can deliver... first rule in sales. So what they'll move some initial boxes... they are losing customers by the second. It seems like Sigil just got in over its head... had to keep dropping new stuff because they couldn't get it to work. Now it seems like they're goal is probably just to get their money back... maybe that's what they're trying to do now, damage control.
I'll stop bashing it because I do feel sorry for the regular folks who are affected when companies fail... and I feel better now that I vented

Exactly... those are some good products you mentioned huh? It's a good argument... we're being offered the "Thighmaster" of MMORPGs.
Anyone that knows anything about business should know that if you are relying on repeat business from existing customers.. you better have a good product and good customer service. Unlike your thighmaster example, it's not the goal of the company to make only an initial sale.
Holy shit different entrances!!! Sign me up, man that's insanely well developed!!! Instead of walking through a wood door on dungeon 1 I can walk through a steel door on dungeon 2. Fuckin A!!!!!!!!!
It's Open Beta if you pre-order you can get in now. Plus you get to start 3 days before everyone else!!!what i've noticed on pre-launch mmo forums over the years is that there is a small group of ppl who take an emotional side to an argument and become unwilling or unable to keep the discussion within contextual bounds (its beta. its a game. some ppl will like it. some ppl won't) so that others who are undecided can make a rational and reasonable decision about playing.
these ppl often take very extreme views, make ad hominem attacks on either other posters or the game devs, use "end of the world" language when it comes to the state of said game, and make lofty unsupported (speaking of conspiracy theories) statements about the nefarious goals of the evil parent company/distributor/publisher/.../ . of course all of this becomes more of an indictment on the poster than the game, but its still a distraction (although, often times, an entertaining one )
to me, the game is what it is which isn't much different than what i expected. fun, i'll play. not,...

You must have me confused with a moron, I never owned, operated, or controled a jedi. For various reasons, one being I never thought they should be placed in the game at all. Master Smug/Pistoleer all day. I grinded everything but jedi, so please stop ASSuming, k thx bye.
This thing is still in beta, so as far as performance issues go, it's probably best to wait until they're finished. I have a fairly good PC, but my graphics card is a bit old so with the beta version of the game I have to play with all the settings turned right down. But it's still in beta so...
I think Vanguard is good but I agree that it definitely is not revolutionary. The gameplay is much the same stuff we've seen before, except this has more depth in terms of non-combat - crafting eg. boats, houses, guildhouses. Not that I've gotten there yet to try it, but the end-game also looks a bit more varied than eg. WoW's raid-grind.
And that's the inevitable comparison - WoW v. Vanguard. IMO Vanguard tops WoW just by having a few extra features:
The fact is that if something works then 'revolutionising' it just for the sake of doing something new is risky. Sure the gameplay ain't anything new, but the whole package is a definite improvement on its competitors.

Am sorry for exposing you for what you are ,someone with a hard on for SOE
Hey Eyeballz is life really that screwed up for you? Social life goin down the drain? The girl who you thought liked you turn-out to like your friend even more? Don't worry, create a myspace.com profile and toss up some of your one man party pics. Eventually you'll find some real friends (don't quote me on this)
That said, Don't play Vanguard.. Growup and getout..

I keep hearing things like, "well the graphics are awesome" or "hey, it's beta" or "they'll fix the performance, just wait", etc etc. I'm baffled at these responses personally. VG has the worst gameplay and animations I've seen in a long time, the combat is horrendous and tedious. The quests are rediculously simple, I'd rather not do anymore X + Y = Z quests k thx. At least make them somewhat interesting. And toon movement is downright scary. How in their right minds could toons be skating around in a jerky motion after five years?!
No, this game is in serious trouble. They shot for the moon but they forgot one thing...IMMERSION! And no amount of awesome graphics or fixed performance is going to change that. In order for this game to work they'd have to tear out the animations and start over and fat chance of that happening. I mean really, if they have 12+ hour patches with cable customers in open beta, you KNOW there's a problem. Just silliness...

Well I guess I made my point obvious enough for you, thanks for noticing I hate SOE and what they have done to SWG. This however does not askew my overview on Vsohs, I told you I started watching this game from the minute it was officially spoken. I have seen through the bullshit and saw the game as it really was, nothing. Absolutely nothing, it just took all the elements already out there and scrambbled them together in a rushed fashion. Nothing 3rd gen about it, nothing new, all old. So tell me what did Sigil give us new? As far as I see lag up the ass(D&L like) and a huge jump in requirements that are not needed. There are shit loads of games out there that use the unreal engine and don't require anywhere near those requirements. There is no need, covering everything up thinking it will be alright. Stop being a damn fanboi and open your eyes. I have seen the future and turned away from it.
seems liek there is a 50/50 split on ppl who really like the game and who dispize the game. (depending on the time of day i check the forums, can be more haters, or more fanbois)
I guess the good thing is that most of the players that like it, REALLY like it, and if that positive % holds true (or increases for positive as things ingame improve) vanguard will have a massive following, i think they can easly get in the comming months 1,000,000 ppl to try the game, so if 50% stay and enjoy, thats already a win in my eyes.
I also think this is the type of game that has alot of room to grow, collecting more ppl as time goes on.
It depends, if you go to this forum http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/109491 there is a hell of lot more haters, who clearly won't buy the game. It all has to do how the game has effected them, more so then none it's the leap to upgrade to the play the game. Which many deem not worth it and in my eyes it isn't either.
