I'd have to disagree with that. I have seen the Conan movies but that is about it. I'm sure the books are great but I have no intentions on reading any of them. I will fully enjoy this game and others will as well because it sounds like it is going to be fun. You don' have to be a lore expert to know how to play a game and enjoy it.
Now the lore experts out there may appeciate the detail that goes into the game with the story lines and characters that may be present. I'm sure I will pick up some good info in General chat from the lore experts so I understand a bit more. Lore is great!
". Wow Hasn't earned my respects... They've set back all MMORPGS. More or less agree to that But and a big but WoW has done one thing and that is a revolution in mmorpg and has drafted a huge number of players to mmorpg. Agree that a lot of these is young players and it's not allways fun to play with em in a group, but I tend to take the lead and then the group turn out fine. If not I just find another group/guild. And in time this new mmorpg community will make gamedevelopers make new and groundbreaking games. And all that thanks to WoW mostly. The young player base will evetually grow up. hehe And they will crave for a deeper game plot than WoW. They havn't done anything fancy with there game they just set it around WarCraft which wasn't that good of a game in the first place. I do not agree. Warcraft was groundbreaking in many ways. I have had most of my first LAN time with my friends on this game and that's no other than Blizzard could have done it as good But what type of game you like is a wery pesonal thingy I am just a Blizzard fan, but not a WoW fan. I recon that is because I started to play RPG on a young age, then some MUD, then Ultima Online, Everquest/ EQII and then WoW. And since I Like RPG I demand a good story and world around me to belive it. WoW has not made me belive in their universe. The game is way to easy and even the vets of WoW say that. Conan probably wont surpass the sales of WoW and im happy for that. WoW was one of the worst communitys iv ever played in. (EQ2 being the best.. smallest =/) " True I advanced 20 level on the first day I played it and it was not that many hours of playtime. But this was just as it came out and I don't know how the game has developed after that. But it was not buggy at all, but the story was thin. same was the crafting. And from what I have heard WoW has not developed much further. But they use their experience from Diablo series and warcraft to make a fast game focused on playerdevelopment. I Loved it when Diablo came out, but I am done with that game. And I wanted something new and WoW did not give me that feeling. I still have an EQ II acount and still play from time to time. And all that because of a wery good community. The game is still deep enough for me to play. But EQ II is not as good as the old EQ. But that is for another forum tread
Come on guys, just let this damn thread die already, it was almost off the front page not long ago.

Can I say that's a stupid coment if there ever was one without ofending you? I guess not, but what do I care about feelings of AoC fanboi...
You sir have something that is called brain and I suggest you start using it for more useful things than making nicy nice Conan signature, damn, that was harsh, I didn't realy mean it like that, but hey, there it is, for better or for worse, my rolemodel is The Dan Man...
I for one think that this thread is one of the best threads about WoW and something else that I have read, no insults and nasty language, well, at least untill I came... but that's hell of a good thing on a forum where there are constant EVE vs WoW flaming wars... if maturitiy in this thread is even the smallest indicator of maturity that will be present in the game itself, I think that Conan is on the right track...

Thank you sir! I was thinking the same thing. I am a fan of those 2 Conan movies (I like the third, but not as much) but I have no interest in studying the lore in great detail, in fact I find great pleasure in discovering the lore in the game itself and by playing out "my" story. My lack of knowledge is actualy like a blessing, because if I knew too much I could be trapped by that knowledge and all I would do in the game would be comparing it with what I already know, and what if there was not much new stuff in the game because I knew all the storys already, well, that would be just terrible
I am Scion of Set, no pun intended, but doesen't it just seem as fate that something like that is in the game
I will try to be helpfull to myself and deadly to others, I will seduce my pray first with stories of great wealth and adventure and then when they least expect it, the darkness will come fast and the passing will be swift...
I hope that when I meet someone on the road from one city to another who is not of my people swords will not be first words we share, I hope there will be at least some curiosity in him before wanting to die, I don't wan't to have to fight as soon as I see a red name, or whatever, I want to /eye /ponder and /smirk first, call me crazy, but I have a feeling that that way it would be somewhat more fun than laying down upon him great vengeance and furious anger at first sight...
but hey, we'll see, right?
Edit >> On a sidenote, I'm playing Dreamfall: TLJ as my offliner atm, and I'm just basking in the story and characters and enviroment and and and, maybe even more than the original TLJ, but that's hard to say, so what I'm trying to say, I am very optimistic as the story goes and I think that the singleplayer could be a real tidbit and the wider story of the MMO part even more...
This is a long way down this thread, so I have no idea if it will get read.
Anyway, as stated way earlier in this thread, this game will not reach WoW sub numbers(at least imo). I believe this will be the first of a new breed of MMO's, that caters more to action junkie with MMO elements(it will end up being like EQ1, which was the first 3d MMO). Really the only competition I see for this game is The Chronicles of Spellborn. They seem to be both going down similar paths when it comes to more skill based play.
Neither of these will be the holy grail, I figure it will take another 5 or 10 years to get to that stage. What I pretty much mean is a WoW version of these type MMO's. By then, I'll probably be feening something else though. Mainly this is because current technologies can't deliver what is needed to make them what they could be. Pretty much to me, this is getting rid of all random BS and going strictly with skill(active defense).
To tell you the truth, I hope this game is good enough for what I want. I have been playing a lot of Rakion lately. While it is not perfect by a long shot, it is a lot more of what I'm looking for in the combat department(to bad it's got no MMO element, PvP is great though).
Age of Conan definitely does NOT look like the next WoW. I think WoW was a major setback for the MMO industry, reguardless of how popular it is. And personally I don't know how such a crappy game (IMHO it's one of the worst MMOs ever made) can have so many players. And other MMOs try to emulate this, and this is just setting the industry back, and it's going to take a while before some good MMOs start coming out again that are actually worth playing. I think Age of Conan will be one of these games.
I think AoC will be great,it have most of the thingys u miss in wow, like horseback fighing, and no doorfs, nelfs, gnomes and ofc paladins that most ppl haver got real tired of...
Every MMO after WoW has been tagged as "the WoW killer" "this will be better than WoW", and none have done it and none including AoC will either, it simply does not have the fans behind it, or a company as good as blizz making it.
I agree with most people in this thread. WoW is not a game for Veteran MMO players. It's a game for people with families and people with jobs. People who can log on for an hour and have some funwith friends online.
It's not as Hardcore as these super challenging games like Vanguard and AoC, which require a lot more intelligence to play, whose playerbase consists of mostly of really good players who are all friendly with eachother and form a really solid community. The same communities that feel like they need to talk about, and compare their game to WoW in their forums, so that they can feel much more superior to the Kiddie playerbase WoW has. The funny things is that in the WoW forums I've never seen anyone comparing WoW to any other game (official forums).
I also agree that WoW has the most 12 year olds of any MMO, and most 20 year olds, and most 31 year olds and most 40+ year olds... and so on. But unfortunatly, due to human nature, these 12-18 year olds seem to be louder than the general playerbase, and as such, attract attention/comments from players such as themselfs.
But anyway, lets hope that a publisher doesn't bring any more games into the MMO market which are as polished, easy to pick up, easy to play, rewarding for playing short amounts of time, cartony graphics which allow 7+ Million players to play without the need for a supercomputer, good storyline, good short and fun combat.
Lets hope instead for more games with super realistic graphics, with a really deep and immersive story and gameplay. Games where it will take days to travel accross continents, and where death is permanent. Games whose playerbase will consist of true MMO players, who can chat all day long about how their game is so much better than any other on the market.
No need for a WoW killler... the WoW fanbase is already diminishing aloooot, just wait and see how it is 3 months from now
I predict player base will increase, i know 2 real life friends who are coming back for the Expansion next week and im still in touch with 5 ex-guildies who are coming back. And if i know people others do and so the ball keeps rolling getting bigger and bigger.
3 months from now I predict blizz will annouce record number of subs as more from europe & us come back, it might only be a 6 month spike untill people burn themselves out on the expansion but we dont know what blizz will add in the 6 months after the expansion.
I dont know if it will be a "WoW killer" but it certainly has the potential to get similar sub numbers. Since it will be FPS style of combat it will attract a whole new playerbase to MMOs and the number of FPS gamers greatly outnumber RPG gamers imo. Dont forget AoC will be on xbox360 a year or so after PC release, when that happens more than likely they will top current WoW sub numbers. Everyone I know has a 360 or will be getting one. I can think of only one person that I know that has a high-end gaming PC. Also, ask yourself these questions:
1) What will be the spec requirements? If too demanding on an average PC, limited players will have access at initial release.
2) Are FPS players willing to dish out 14.99/month?
and most importantly 3) Will they deliver what they promise?(the biggest downfall of most MMOs is that they dont live up to their own description, imo)
I just hope that the majority of the players are going to be mature enough to handle a game like this. Because in WoW there is not many people who are actually there to be interlaced with the game play, Just to make a female Night elf Dance with no items equipped.
Sure WoW has a extremly popular game there. 8mill subs and counting thats great...but seriously thats more money than they know what to do with...i think that if Age of Conan gets 300,000+ subs (i think that they will have alot more im just setting a lowest bar) they will be a VERY successful MMO...and think about it. WoW servers only hold a MAx of 20,000players...you never see the 8 million. So just join a full server, it will feel just as populated, theres no reason for Aoc to become THAT popular.

Anyone notice that the OP is 15 yrs old? Now that you know, re-read his post. The noob comment makes me laugh.
