Why It Rocked: After virtually inventing the genre and serving as the inspiration for countless single-player and persistent online role-playing games, the venerated Dungeons & Dragons license has finally found a place of its own in the online universe. D&D Online: Stormreach, developed by the folks at Turbine, finally adapts the rules and content of the 3.5 rule system to the massively multiplayer online market. The freshness of the new Eberron setting and the focus on party-based adventuring made the game appealing to a wide variety of RPGers, especially those who have fond memories of late night sessions around the dining room table. In the absence of "player vs. player" crafting or faction play, the game doesn't have the same range as other popular fantasy MMOs -- in fact, dungeon crawling is about the only thing you'll be doing in Stormreach -- but it's fun while it lasts. There weren't nearly as many entries in this category as their have been in years past but D&D Online still managed to come out on top

2006 was a lean year for new mmo's to be released and I think thats evident with 2 7.5 rated games being given the goty and runner up awards.

Ouch! Can you say damned by faint praise?
And to end it, they almost apologise for giving D&D Online the award:
"There weren't nearly as many entries in this category as their have been in years past but D&D Online still managed to come out on top."
Shame that they thought that they had to do that, I think the game is going to do nothing but get better over time.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy
Just like at the Oscar's, no-one remembers who the competition were, just the winner of each category. I'm also betting that a lot more people read the IGN website than this one and that the majority of gamers won't read any at all.

ah ha, I'm not the only one who noticed this. 2007 may not be any better.
DDO may not be for everyone but it really is a good game in what it attempts to do. It has alot of high points that most other games don't
1. Character flexiblity, I don't mean you can change the bust size of your avatar more you can create the character through class/skill combinations that you want to play and are not forced to play a cookie cutter paladin or mage with the same items and abilities as everyone else. Want to play a cross class Warforged Rogue/Fighter/Wizard who sneaks around casting hold spells and backstabbing your foes with a longsword? Well be my guest you can do that.
2. Small group dynamics vs. massive raids. Many is the time I have Pulled out a quest or raid as one of the few remaining members of the party left alive. Not many other MMO's can make this claim, when doing the hardest content in some of them when you wipe, you wipe hard! In DDO even one person can make a difference.
3. Looty goodness. I know your going to say that games shouldnt be about loot but well D&D is about goodies. How many people played D2 and did endless mephisto or pindle runs hoping to get that one itme, well this game has the same sense of excitement when you open a chest as D2 because you never know if it will be an elite weapon or a box of useless vendor food. Deny all you want but thats part of the fun. In addition the random generated bonuses to gear means you can adopt a large array of different playstyles depending on the gear you find.
4. Exciting fast action. Thats right it's fast paced once you get your group together and start a dungeon there is no downtime waiting for mobs to spawn or waiting for your cleric to regen his or her spell points before you can continue on. I am a firm believer that this game is designed with more of the casual gamer in mind and it provides a good experience for the casual gamer you log on do a quest or two in a couple of hours and log off getting your fix for the evening. While being limited at the moment on content they do regular updates and add more there is ALOT more content now than at release just 1 year ago.
Don't get me wrong the game has good and bad points but for what it is trying to do it succeeds very well in my opinion. I was looking for an MMO that captured the feeling of D2 in an MMO form and found it in DDO. I am a moderate hard core player and still have DDO on my hard drive while alot of other MMO's didnt make the grade.
2006 was awful as far as MMO's go with release of such gems as Dark and Light but there were a few bright spots you just have to look to find them.
I think the launch of Vanguard has really made people realise that they are actually looking for something different in an MMO. It's been right under their noses the whole time.
I'm sure people will now come on and proceed to tell us the game's faults, no need, we know it's faults, we know DDO is not perfect.
We know it has less content than other MMO's but what is here is fantastic. NO MMO on the market has better quests IMO. It also gets free content every month, good quality free content!
We know it is instanced, I personally see it as going through a door or down into a dungeon.
We know the world is not very big, but it's getting bigger, big open areas are going into the game, The Sands of Menachtarun was a recent area added.
We know pvp is not balanced, but you don't get classes that are messed about with every 5 minutes or experience huge fluctuations in their abilities.
We know it hasn't got crafting (and I really like crafting) but it seems it may be coming and it COULD be soon.
We know that you can end up repeating dungeons but you do have different difficulty settings (and there is a big difference in the settings) and the new dungeons since October are becoming randomised!
We know that some feel it may not be 100% as they have experienced playing pnp but page 14 of the DM's guide says a DM can change the rules to suit his setting. Turbine as the DM have done this.
They are worthy issues but they are all being addresed apart from the instancing ( this helps the game because it has brilliant graphics and brilliant art direction and they will not strain your pc too much) and the pvp balancing (that I know of or can say I personally would like)
Did I mention it has loads of monsters? Kobolds, Wraith's, Beholders, Drow, Oozes, Hobgoblins, Bugbears, Iron Defenders, Vampires, the list goes on and on, 5 more new monsters this month, the only one I can remember are invisible stalkers.
The new looking for group function is astounding!
Even with Turbine adding some elements people are familiar with, at it's core (and the core of any MMO in my opinion!) it is still DIFFERENT, that core is character creation and questing, this game stands head and shoulders above what is out there at the minute in those two areas.
If you have not tried it, do, you have nothing to lose, if you have tried but not recently, give it another go, if you tried and did not like, fine, at least you did try!
You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.
The fact that Auto Assault didn't win over D&D surprises me actually.
At least Auto Assault is an original approach on an MMO game. Can't say that from D&D though.
EDIT: missread.

Do you even comprehend the thing you yourself wrote? My guess would be no. DDO is in fact fast action when compared to every other MMO out there. If your trying to compare DDO to say Counterstrike then perhaps its not fast but taking 1 minute to sit at a shrine a couple of times max per quest to regain full hp's and sp's isnt exactly what I would consider downtime.
And again your complaining that you have to bother to disarm traps, solve puzzles and the like. Im not sure exactly what your complaint really is because it makes no sense. Of course after reading your posts they seem to be nothing but mindless trolling and your opinion ranks up there with the great musings of toaster leavins. You sir arnt even a good troll I give your post a 2/10.

CoV is 2005...and won many prizes, in 2005. No doubt it would have taken the seat, but it is older, not 2006.
If I recall well, CoV walk away not only with many prizes, but with many prizes from MMORPG.com as well.
