As said, it is easy to turn the graphics up to max to snap a screenshot.
Could someone posting very high detail screenshots please FRAPs short, 10 second videos of you running around in-game, fighting, in town, out of town etc, and post those instead please? That way we can see your FPS, gfx detail etc.
And I say 10sec vids so that you can record on highest quality and framerate, so there is no room for "compression" excuses, and still keep the files pretty small.
I ask this also 'cos I'd just love to see how well the world blends in real time. Only so much you can tell from a screenshot.

Im new to these forums so guys im not asking for a flaming but i have some questions about the graphics in all 3 games in question (aoc vg and lotro)
How much bigger is the vanguard world (in size not content) than the other two games? from what ive read one of VG's selling points is its sheer size, so if it is soooo much bigger would that mean it would be harder fill in areas with life etc? (i really want to try out all 3 games for a few months before i make a decission on how the next two years of my gaming life will be spent lol)
And from what ive seen all 3 games look comparable as far as eye candy is concerned (i accept that each developer has gone different ways and used different tricks to get the style there looking for), but to me i think all look great in there own way...that being said are we going to see similar problems with system specs and performance from all three games and are all three games going to weigh in at the 20gig mark?
Please know im equally excited about all 3 games and intend to try all of them out....i own a great computer so id say that none of the problems people have found with these game will apply to me, (fingers crossed lol) but i am just interested to see what the answers are to my questions.....
Thanks in advance for any answers.
the Vanguard World dwarfs the Lord of the Rings world in many ways. The size is much larger, and theres also no glass fishbowl walls.
Age of Conan is suppose to be huge, Id expect it to be larger than vanguard
one of the problems Vanguard has with its bloated install size (as much as people want to blame sigil programmers and in the same breath forget this engine is not theirs) Is that it uses the Unreal Engine. The Unreal Engine uses uncompressed textures, so most of the slack comes from that.
i hope it's not like everquest 2, like if you don't have a good computer it looks like utter shit, but if you do have it looks amazing. I think thats why alot of people like world of warcrafts graphics, they look pretty good on mediocore computers which in a way i say is a win. But like i have experienced with a good computer vanguard seems to have great graphics, although i did like what i saw in that LOTRO screenshot
Unfortunately, its a lot more severe. The screenies posted were on very high quality (most anyway). If you have an even average machine, dont expect to see a lot of its potential.

I did not do a video because I am not sure where ot host it however here are some screenies and my system specs. I get a lot of stutter when running at these settings just for the record
E6600 duo core @ 3000 MhZ on water , EVGA 7900GT 256 meg @ 550 and 1600, 2 gigs performance ram @ 884 MHz, 1300 + FSB
game settings 1280 x 1024, very high quality, 2x AA, slider pretty much maxxed out. Anything above 2x AA settings seem to have no effect either on FPS or screen quality.
you can see Sigils FPS counter both current and average in the upper quadrant of the right part of the screen. For some reason when I toggled the interface chat window off the fraps numbers dissapeared also. However the Sigil numbers are pretty much on the money.
Still doesnt look great IMHO. I realy cant see why we need such spec's for it, lacks art direction... like 30 guys worked on the models without a comman style or direction.

I agree there is no consitancy in the textures whatsoever, one will be great the next sucks. A video would be nice if someone could do one, the tree folage "sparkles" for some reason, it is quite annoying to me at least
Your screenshot reminds me of one of the Star Wars Galaxies worlds. Dantooine I believe, with the purple grass. Seriously, the shot looks like it could have come from SWG. Considering the age of SWG and the fact that it ran relatively smooth on older rigs (excluding major city congestion causing thrashing and load times of course), it's sad that this newer game with similar graphics doesn't achieve that. Could be "beta" issues, we'll see.
The graphics have been the hardest part of this game for me to swallow. I guess that ties into the performance. If the game would have gone for a true Keith Parkinson look and abandoned the real look, I would have had more respect for it. Instead they went with the "life like" look that I believe one of the posts in here captured the issues of quite well. When you go for true-to-life look, you can't settle for what VSoH has done.
The game, IMO, was built from a good idea. But I'm not happy with how the idea was executed. I love the classes in the game and the use of the classes. The technical execution is the only fault as I see it. Well, some of the quests are too MMO typical and the waiting for mobs to spawn is an issue that they touted as having dealt with... but overall it's acceptable for the game, and a lot more than the technical implementation.
Buy ingredients for a pizza in 2004, take 3 years to shape the dough, put the topping on before the ingredients go out of waranty and need replacing and hurry to put in in the oven because soon other competition opens across the street.
When i saw so many bad beta reviews on Vanguard i said it cant be that bad
But the fact is, after playing the thing its not about the bad things you can say about it (finger pointing etc) it's just that you cant say anything good about it.
Animation is so bad i feel like crying when playing melee classes , in combat, not that spell casting or simple character movement is any better, the characters just wave their arms around and flex the legs from 2 joints when they get around (japonese robots do more than that); most spell effects just leave a bad taste in your mouth if anything at all.
So who is Vanguard appealing to? cuz honestly i dont see the big picture, play the game to explore the big game-world?, play it to realise you really need to upgrade your PC?, play it because you love to take perty screens of landscape ? ... play it just cuz it exists ?
Play it! , its worth building your own opinion. (id wait for a free trial tho )
I did screw up on my previous post it seems as if the AA was at 4x not 2 x, however as I stated I notice no differeance between either the game quality or the FPS at anything above 2 x so I think the AA is bugged. I went all teh way up to 16AA earlier and had rthe same FPS as I did at 2x, screens looked identical also.
Originally posted by Rayx0r theyre beta tester screenshots I saved throughout the beta. some as old as beta 2, some as recent as days old. please, debunk it however you see fit.
Ok cool man. Want to do up some FRAPs vids for us too?

Nice. That is what the game looks like, complete with the universal male wedgie (the UMW, another feature of Vanguard ). It's no wonder everyone looks so funny when they run.

Ok, here is have 6 short movies (Maybe abit to short) from me. Sorry about Filefront, but I didn't have any more space on my site.
Note: I tried to make it as neutral as possible. Just recording while I was playing. Also you will see some texture flashing and weird cursor, this is caused by using Fraps. Fraps also takes quite a few fps when recording. All ofcourse unedited game footage.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2,13 Ghz
2048 Mb Ram
Nvidia Geforce 7600GS 256 Mb Ram
Running the game Balanced/High including .ini tweaks @ 1280x768. Usually around 15-20 Fps avarage. With other words terrible . I think the game has to have some sort of issues with some of my hardware, or drivers. The computer is completely new, freshly installed Windows, newly formated hd's. Even if the Geforce 7600GS isn't the best I expected more. Not only is the fps bad, but the game also "chugs" along when I walk around, like it has hard times loading stuff from the hd. And it almost runs worse than my:
P4 2.2 Ghz (No HT)
1024Mb Ram
Ati Radeon 1650Pro 256 Mb Ram
So I can't really enjoy the graphics that much. Also like the last screenshot of the OP might have showed you, there are some terrible ugly stuff around in the world of Telon. But overall, "ok" graphics.

Thats Bullshit. Alot of games have used the Unreal Engine and they don't have such horrible compression/optimization issues. Still they probably haven't gotten to compressing down whats finalized yet.
Also, you should turn off anti-aliasing. It will make your screenshots slightly more blurry. Its good for hiding problems like the tree leaves causing flickering, but it also kills the detail a bit. Also you will lose some detail when it compresses to jpg.

well, its not bullshit. no other game that uses the unreal engine comes close to the scale of the Vanguard world.
and when I say world, i say each and every texture that makes up the world. meaning numerous weapon textures, armor, mob, npc. so comparing it to lineage 2 since it uses the unreal engine is a long way from being remotely accurate.

well i play at the exact settings i take the screenshots with. i fraps a few short ones of me just running, or fighting something but i need to find a place to upload them too so if anyone knows of a site that can host video over 100mb.

I meant the fact about Unreal not having any form of compression. It compresses to packages, but its not so great compression compared to other methods. Lineage 2 is a great example because of how large the world is, and with all the upgrades in the 3 years has bloated the client to around 5GB. Still you don't have such horrid graphic lag from it and the textures are well painted.
Also there is Ragnarok Online 2 that has had the same development time and uses next-gen technology just like Vanguard. SpeedTree, Normal Maps, HDRI lighting. Still when they started thier beta people could play a nice and optimized game that ran smoothly on even low end machines 2 generations old, yet still look good. The reason being was that when they noticed an optimization issue, they worked on it for a full year. The optimization on Vanguard is definetly being rushed by comparison.
Lineage 2 is a great example because of how large the world is, and with all the upgrades in the 3 years has bloated the client to around 5GB.
Vanguard is going to be around 17-20 gigs at finish. It has a hell of a lot more going on than Lineage 2 graphics-wise. The world is immense and it looks really sweet on my PC too.

I find the character textures really bad and hard to look at. It seems they won't get any better even after release.

Vanguard is going to be around 17-20 gigs at finish. It has a hell of a lot more going on than Lineage 2 graphics-wise. The world is immense and it looks really sweet on my PC too.
