i think one of tha best thigns about Lineage 2 so far has to be how increadibly polished it is though... even for a beta its very smooth running and u get this sense of quality from playing it... cant wait to see the finished product
Originally posted by rathma City of Heroes owns Lineage II. If you played both of them you'd know that City of Heroes is the best by far.No camping mobs for 2 hours. In City of Heroes you get a better choice of your character instead of "face A" or "Face B". Can't give you specific details because of NDA though.
Game Rankings City of Heroes: W00T!!!!! FFXI: meh SWG: get out....
Oh here is the tough one......
I have to admit "City Of Heroes" is very, extremely original title, as well as being very fun game. I've actually tried it and I liked it a lot. No doubt about it. Its infinite offer of customization choice dwaft any other title announced so far (Lineage2, WoW, ... you name it).
However, Lineage2 has more "Epic" feeling to it than any other MMORPGs announced so far at least that's how it is presented. I guarantee you you won't see 200 vs 200, guild vs guild crash in full glory with minimum lagging in neither CoH, AO, WoW, EQ2, ......
Lineage 2 team has achieved something awesome in this department.
All these games focus on either soloing, party questing or as much as i hate to admit it, just wondering around looking at stuff.
While this is as much to do with game design itself, it is also due to the nature of that particular game's community, or the degree of the hardcoreness, organization that people playing this game demonstrate.
In Todays MMORPG, "Community" itself is a content. It wasn't couple of years ago. Lineage 2 is actually a game that changed the meaning of "community" in MMORPG.
Now, someone mentioned that L2 will be eclipsed when EQ2 or WoW will be released, I don't think so.
L2 has most royal fans you will ever see in any other game because L2 is deep rooted in community building.
The way i see this is EQ2 is already in the way out and they don't seem to be bothered that much. Only hope it doesn't flop. WoW maybe dominant in US, but everyone know it's work of media outlets' non-stop talking about WoW this ... WoW that.....
US media somehow seem to have decided line up behind Blizzard banner in this case.

I played Lineage 2 beta. Till level 20 the game was really fun and I was completely hooked, then a few levels later (lvl 25+) it started to get really boring. It's advertised as PvP game, but few people PvP because of the penalties.
The game is made for the Korean market where leveling is worshiped above everything else. For example to get from level 70 to 75 you need to play 20 hours a day for 54 days .... and this with a Silver Ranger (which is like the best class for leveling in the game at the moment).
I'm sort of a semi powergamer (I usually play a few hours a day) and I still think this game is way too hardcore for me.
I am not sure what would be the best mmorpg out right now. I guess I still think EQ1 is the best but I burned out on it a while back.
Currently I am playing Lineage 2 and enjoying it. As most others have said its very polished and has great graphics and fun game play.
I considered trying City of Heros but I just cant get into the super hero thing so no matter how well its done I probably wouldnt enjoy it but maybe its a style you would like.
I would recommend trying as many as you can rather then put too much stock in what I or others say though. Personal taste and opinion are really the keys to which mmorpg your going to like. You cant really follow individual posts or rankings on the mmorpg list as they wont match everyones feelings.
World of Warcraft is deffinatly my most anticipated MMORPG at the moment. After that would probly be Vanguard, then RYL, then Lineage2. As for games that are already out i would have to say that SWG and FFXI are my favorite MMORPG's.
DARK AGE OF CAMELOT IS BEST GAME IF YOU HAVE NEVER PLAYED IT THEN PLAY IT NOW, Plus You have to be at least lvl 50 and done some RvR before you can judge the game
The best mmorpg, no the best game ever is tibia, nothing else can beat it. It doesn't matter that the graphics suck because there is a great community and the 10% exp loss at death sets REAL adrenaline into you when you are L51 with a possible weeks worth of exp (not even to mention item loss) when you might face a hard monster.
Want a CHALLENGE. Tibia is the hardest yet most rewarding mmorpg I know.
Asheron's Call. Theres lots of crap to do and lots of cool people. But, keep in mind that its the only one I've played. I think MOE will be kick ass too.
and well basically all mmorpg's have there strengths and weakensses
Ultima online does it for me though
its been out for over 6 years and still pulls out thousends of new gamers its has a wide market even to the more modern japanese who should be palying more new engine games
It has a great character building system and a very nice community very open planned the world is...
i liked the graphics althoguh they are old but it makes up for it ten fold with gameplay. Nearly anyting you can think of is really ephazed like owning ur own home...
however it has been ruined by the add of Age of shadows....
with new skills new item properties, so the game ahs gone alot more items based rather then skill based shame though... but if you decide to join wont be too much of a difrence stillg reat fun to play and htey are also adding a new Japanese expandsion with a samura and ninja profession -personally i would of liked to keep it medievel fantasy but for you japanese fans i think its gonna be excellent
Oddly enough, Shadowbane is the only one thats kept my subscription this long ... though I'm planning on trying out some of the big titles coming out like everyone else (CoH, WoW, DnL, Darkfall, etc).
I'd hafta say none are all that great. At one point I woulda said Ultima Online but that game has gone sooo stupid since the last expansion that I completely lost interest. And I've played EQ, AO, AC, DAoC, Horizons E&B SWG and beta tested a few and found them all the same EQ clones. Altho Horizons has a nice crafting system...but that seems to be all it is. At least on the few times i was able to connect.
Hopefully over the next year or two something will come out that breaks that EQ clone mold till then I'll prolly just keep collecting the games and using my free trial then leaving the gamebox in my MMORPG gamebox collection.
*A game does not rule all other games...espcially if it hasn't been released yet.*
*A game does not rule all other games...espcially if it hasn't been released yet.*
I guess I'm a throwback, but DAoC is the top dog now, IMO. I don't think it will stay that way, but it has my vote for now. I would say EQ, but I keep hearing how the expansions have destroyed the old world (meaning there's no one in Oasis, EC or the Karanas any more, which makes me a bit sad ). I quite EQ in 2001 but I still have a soft spot for it in my heart. Perhaps that's why I'm keeping an eye on EQ2.
I played CoH beta and will not be buying it. The game is stable and fun and extremely limited for my taste. It plays more like a FPS than a MMOG to me. It's basically pure combat. I hit level 11 in about a week and was bored to tears, and didn't see it changing. I know a lot of people who love this title, though, so don't pay any attention to me.
Ask me this question in 6 months and I'll probably have another answer altogether.
----- There are 10 types of people in this world...those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Asking this question five months before the release of several highly antcipated mmorpgs is a bad idea, so I'm going to break this down as best I can.
Currently-
For gamers who play more than 15 hours a week:
Dark Age of Camelot-
-Best PvP on the Market (Yes even with zerging, DAOC still has the best pvp. At least in my humble opinon)
-Fantastic community
-Three diffrent realms to explore
-Many diffrent class/race options
-Good Dungeons
-Intersting mob ai
-Soloable (Not that it's easy, but it's much easier than most games on the market)
-A nice mix of low and high level content
For gamers who play less than 15 hours a week:
AC2:
-Decient quests system
-Beautful graphics.
-The fast and fun combat.
-The best arrow sound effect in the history of arrow sound effects. (You'll know what I'm talking about if you ever pick up a bow in that game)
-Fast Travel
-Skill tree allows for characters to be more complexed than just one or two builds
Games to avoid:
Horizons- I could go on and on about the negitives of this game, but instead I'll just hope you will take my word for it.
Shadowbane- Plane aweful. There is a reson that only after one year it's selling for five dollars new.
Best of whats in beta:
People who have nothing to do but play mmorpgs:
Lineage 2- It's boaring, repetitve, and tedious, but, by God, it's the only leveling curve out there that will support fresh content for players who game for fourty plus hours a week for more than two months. Plus I hear the seage combat is supposed to be nice. (Not that I would know about that, seeing as I didn't want to devote last month entierly to the open beta so I could be high enough level to experance that.)
People who play more than 15 hours a week
World of Warcraft- Other than resting, it's hard to get a beta tester to say something bad about this game. Even it's beta phase one state, it's got more content and is more polished then most mmorpgs out to date.
People who play less than 15 hours a week
City of Heroes: Fast paced, intersting, combat and a fresh look for a genra over saturated with high fantasy. City of Heroes allows players to step into the role of their own custom built super hero and is supposed to be one of the best times you'll have playing an mmorpg this year.
Worst in beta-
Risk Your life- An intersting take on combat, made horrabliy wrong with hackers and little content.
Saga of Ryzom- Trust me, don't touch this game with a ten foot poll. I would tell you speficily whats wrong with it, but I can't without violating NDA.
Lineage 2- You might be asking yourself, "How can a game make both the best and the worst on the same list?" Well if your lineage two, you make your game so unfriendly to anybody but powergamers that you alienate the rest of the mmorpg community. I mean don't get me wrong, there is a lot to lineage 2, the world is breath taking, the character models are perdy, and the interface isn't bad for being pnc, but at it's basic core the game is just simple hack and grind to the extreame. People looking to do anything else should stay far far away.
Best in Alpha-
People looking to play more than 15 hours a week:
Everquest 2- Simply the best character customizer I've ever seen. Actual voice incorperated into the game. A pvp theme, and if it's anything like it's predissor, many, many, many hours of leveling goodness.
People looking to play less than 15 hours a week:
Guild Wars: What can I say other than the game looks breath taking. The pvp sounds inspired and it doesn't have a monthly fee. What could be better for the causaul mmorper!!!!
Ultima X: odyssey: Sporting a fresh take on combat and a strong quest system. UO:X could be the fps gateway into the genra and a breath of fresh air for people who are sick and tired of Fed Ex quests and sandwitch combat. Keep your eye out for this title, if it proforms half as well as EA bosts it will, it'll be a force to be reconded with.

I have actually quit playing most of the games available atm.

Im looking forward to playing WOW and City of Heros.
Well, Blizzard plans on making a dedicated PvP server..
And the expansion for CoH will probably implement PvP..
That's PvP in both

unfortunatly, the best game is still DaoC.
L2, so pretty, so boring, so dominated by exploiting guilds and chinese bots.
LOL just goes to show you that good graphics do not make the game.
It is how everything comes together as a whole that matters most.
