    Thank you...

Best overall though, I'd say it's a tie between Judas Priest and Black Sabbath for me.

I could agree with these two...

There was a time my favorites would be Steppenwolf , Jimi Hendrix and Cream.

At one time Eric Clapton was GOD.

Later in life it was Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd , Frank Zappa and Rush.

Nowadays I'm too burned out to care, but there has been a lot of great bands over the years.

You obviously didn't read the last line of my post, which stated that this entire thread is subjective and that these are MY top 5.  I do not expect someone who considers AC/DC or Black Sabbath to be the pinnacle of rock music to be able to appreciate any of the ones I listed.  That's why I said they are MY top 5.

Yes Tool has been around since 90, Metallica has been around since 1981.  Since I was comparing them to Led Zeppelin, and since they are still putting out albums, yes I consider them modern.

Well, uh...I didn't mean to offend Koltrane. I wasn't suggesting anything other than I don't like David Bowie. Nothing to you as a man. image

Of course, this is so subjective it's not even funny, so let's just say these are MY top 5.

Are you in the UK Koltrane

This list has no meaning, but it's just fun to toss stuff like this out, mostly to see the reaction I can get.

    Barenaked Ladies

    They might be giants

    New order (for you Koltrane)

    Depeche mode

    Public affection

    Heart of aggression

Actually Band are more of a boolean value for me, with I like or I don't.

At any given moment I tend to like some more than others. There are those that show high talent value, but in recent years those are very few and far between.

This is allot like trying to pick out a favorite flavor of Ice Cream, generally it's one I like, and one I didn't just eat.

Someone pointed out the lack of "new" bands. (from 2000 on) I don't think rock is rock anymore. I believe it's now labeled "alternative" (to rap I assume)

The music industry has pulled away from the Rock genre toward other things. Let's face it, adults where never the music industries main audience.

Bleh! You've all got it wrong!
I will go with metal, which is by far superior to rock.
Want proof? The Greatful Dead are considered rock, the greatful dead sucked.

Well, I would have to list it like this:

    1) Yngwie Malmsteen
    2) Iron Maiden
    3) Manowar
    4) Iced Earth
    5) Enslaved

There are lots more, but these will kick whatever "rock" band's ass you throw at them.

Wow - someone actually knows who Manowar is! My girlfriend knew the guitarist of Manowar. She actually went to school with his son. He lived near her in upstate NY.

While Malmsteen might have technically been an excellent guitarist, his music . . .er. . .  sucked ASS. And while we are at it Joe Satriani was technically superior.

Well, I dunno I liked his music, and for comparison, I dunno, no place around here carries any--Well now that I think of it they don't carry anything aside from Rap, Nu Metal, and shitty music like everyone else has been naming.

Depends on what you consider "rock"to be right?Well back in (im dating myself here)early to late 80's there was this thing called "hardcore".This brand of music was not commercial friendly whatsoever.Im not saying it's dead it just went too commercial for me and changed into something else.

Anyway for what it's worth to me the Bad Brains are the best rock band.

Just google the name Bad Brains and get educated.

I like the Offspring as well. once you see them in concert you realize that they arent like every other punk/pop band. As for Metallica...I like their music but I hate them as people. They sue 89 10-20 year olds for D'Ling their music and make 5000-10,000 off each person. As if they didnt have enough money as it is. Money whores.
