Some wonder why it has a high rating despite the whining and haters in this forum who would have you believe it's the worst game in MMORPG history.... The truth is that the vast majority of us are in game having a blast, with no time or need for forums.
Prime time USA today almost all the servers were on High load.
Towns are full of people going about their business.
Crafting stations in towns are manned by dozens of people at any given time.
The game has only been out for about a week, so take what the haters and doomsayers have to say with a grain of salt at this point. Give the game a try for yourself, or get a buddy key.

high load is an ambiguous phrase, which is a fancy way of saying high is whatever they decide to set the flag at. It could be 500 or 5000 and can be changed at the whim of SOE.
they have sold less than 50 K copies, I can pretty much prove that figure with the Vanguard player database and 50K is a generous estimate. I estimate 75K to 80K accounts about half of which are buddy key accounts. If all roll over that would be good for SOE, however that is unlikely. However I do think a good portion will because the open beta acted as sort of a filter.
The game does have a good share of fans though, however I doubt even if they fix every bug in the game it will ever grow more to more than 100K. Just my opinion there. Look at it this way , a small tight knit community can be a good thing.
By the way I do agree that most people playing are enjoying, after the open beta pretty much the only people who would play are the ones who enjoyed the open beta. Make sense?

anyone have a spare buddy key? gprodigy7@yahoo.com
thanks
A lot more than 50k boxes have been sold, I can tell you that much.
The game has at least 150,000 subscribers. I'd venture more around 180k-200k
Cmon now guy. 180-200k subscribers? What are you smoking? I want some!
50k would be stretching it. If there is more than that it will not be after they start playing it. Look at the forums for Dark and Light, Horizons, and SWG. You will see a similiar pattern to the posts here on the Vanguard forum.
If it plays like Horizons, looks like Horizons, then it is Horizons.
Infact theres only 10,000 people level 15 or above and 39,000 between level 10 and 15.
So i'm guessing theres about 50k active users.
1.) Less votes = higher rating, if one person voted 100 out of 1 person, it would be at 100%, if one voted 1, and another voted 10, it would be 50% and ect.
2.) Nobody is sick of it yet and nobody has seen the 100% of it, therefor nobody really knows what higher gripes with levels/areas/dungeons/abilities they'll have yet.
As for sales, given the fact that there are plenty at the store, there is no way they sold 100K+ accounts even with a download. It might make that number some day, but not now. If they have 50K right now then that is a solid lauch given the niche this game is filling in and the competition. Since this game is in the spirity of other SOE games, then with the station pass it is likely to attract many of those players. But this game will not attract too many from WoW or PvP games.
This, folks, is why most of the haters on this forum are full of shit and should be ignored.

Less players the better, as long the servers is inhabited, there shouldnt be more than 50k players... Because then it is a niche game, and niche games are good. Not some mainstream WoW or Guild wars crap.

I'm still wondering about these numbers folks are coming up with though. Mostly because I'm curious how much is crap.

Well, let's see.
50k x about $10 a month (a lot of those that bought the game have SOE station passes, and this is included, which pulls the monthly cost down).
That comes out to around $500,000 a month, which is barely sustainable for a game that has poured millions into development. While $6 million a year might sound like a lot, there are a lot of things like salaries, overhead, servers and hardware, network costs, advertising, etc etc that eat into that really fast.
So while 50,000 subscribers might keep the game alive, I think it would definately slow further development. I don't know what kind of research was actually done, but a while back a dev from another game said that 40,000 was about the minimum to keep an mmorpg alive for long.
This game will have to be at least in the 75K+ range for subscribers I think to survive for more than a couple of years.
And BTW, Amazon lists this game as #88 in sales. #11 was the Sims expansion pack, and #3 was the WOW expansion...
So if the servers are that much deserted, why is it that you have to camp some spots for 3 hours because you have to compete with so many others ? And its not like the spawn timer is high. While primetime you meet people everywhere, even in the most hidden corners of the wilderness, far away from the roads and questlines.
And i am wondering why some say its all buged without naming the bugs. I am level 12 now and couldnt find many. There was a hole behind a bush where you get stuck. So what ? I /bug'ed the /loc and called out.
To show you that i am no fanboi i am gona tell you some bugs. One is, that you occasionally dont get a connection to the server that is hosting the broker. Maybe a sign of high load ? However, i am sure Sigil is aware of this and will fix it. Those guys are patching like mad. There maybe is a bug while grouped with inventory space. I am not really sure, happened only once to me. When you play windowed and cross a zone line it happenes sometimes that the mouse pointer moves to 0,0 (top left corner) Not a bug but sometimes annoying. The animation for swimming needs polish. Traveling on a boat needs polish or some wil drown It seems that there is a issue with scaling of weapons. Not for all but for my woodelf shaman. Shields, spears and clubs are far to big. This is my opinion, but might also be intention. I doupt it though, because when i carry a spear on my back it scratches the floor When i look at others all seems fine.
This all is not nice but not gamebreaking at all. We all know that the game was released early.
Not a single quest was bugged. And i think i did almost all i could find on my way.
This is the single best game world i have seen in 20 years of gaming. The wolrd is full of self-explanatory lore. Armor and weapons look better and better by the time. Animations and effects are nice. Classes are nicely defined. From my point of view and from what i experienced ingame so far is, that some people dont have enough social skill to enjoy this game. Trust me people, grouping can be fun. Playing your class in a team can be a blast... just give it a try. Why do you think there is a LFG tool ingame ? Dont get upset when your team was wiped by two 4-dots. Most of us are vanguard noobs after all. Once we are 50 we will know how tanking, healing and aggro management works.
Right now it seems vanguard is uniting oldschool and newschool mmo elements in its best way. Combinded with top graphics and a few innovations this is one of the best games available. I am quite sure it will be more popular once the game beyond 30 and the endgame is know.
If you dont like it, its maybe not your style of game (/me for example never could play a spaceship mmo without a toon) or maybe you are just not able to adapt ? LOL, trust me. After 20 years gaming i know what a game burnout is. Learn from it and play a game and dont try to beat it.. ah well.. just a hint from a veteran
However, bashing is bad style and just shows about a cheap mind.
[sorry for the bad english]
On that topic, What is with all the naysayers trying to bring it down? I hope soon we can use these boards without 3 dozen people spamming up the forum with the same drivel posted over and over.
The servers are pretty populated and I found a great guild.
I am having a total blast in the game and I can see and hear how everyone else is enjoying the game also.
I wont spit out numbers because I could care less what companies post, half the time they are botched anyway. I judge the population by what I see on the servers I play on and in the last couple of days the population has grown nicely.
Tonight a guildie and I got to an area for lvl 13 and higher and we couldnt believe how many people were in the area having a blast. We actually had to run around trying to catch the next spawn before others would to get our kills or loots. Was a blast watching when a good spawn would happen and a few werent prepared which ended up bringing everyone together trying to help one another.
Total blast!! I am enjoying this game more and more each day and it keeps getting better the higher lvl you get, just makes you want more and more.
Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.
