Okay, I'm not a fanboy or a hater but here's my opinion about Vanguard. At first I was very excited about this game, I told my friends that this will be our next game after WoW (we were so not looking forward to play TBC). But at some point I got the beta invite, I tried it, played it, disliked it and finally decided not to play this game at all. I let my friends tried the game and they said the same thing.
The problems at that time were pretty much the same to what people said about the game after release. Low FPS, buggy, large but empty world, need grouping very bad even at low levels, etc.
So yea, if you are an average MMO player as non-hardcore roleplaying maybe and not a big fan of Brian Mcquaid .. whatever the spelling is, you may want to avoid this game. Trust me, I'm not against this game at all, but I just feel it's not for the most of us.
OK here is a post from someone that doesn't know what the frak they're talking about. I get 40-60 fps in game 90% of the time and that is on almost full bells and whistles running at 1900x1220. Only time I see a hiccup is when I enter a city where lots of people are at and then it might drop to 20 for a few seconds before rebounding ot the low 30's.
Large empty world? What game did you say you played again? Telon is not empty....not in the least bit.
Bugs..sure the game has bugs...what game doesn't have bugs and what MMORPG ever released without its share of bugs?
Grouping needed at low levels? LMAO! Please if you must BS at least do it about something you have the slightest ideal of what it is you are talking about.
Oh and if you are going to talk about the lead designer of the game Vanguard the least you can do is get his name right. It is "BRAD not BRIAN".
::rolls her eyes:: You are an idiot. Plan and simple.
All you did was just saying who you really are. And you just can't accept the reality that many people disliked Vanguard.
well as the original poster of this vanguard thread . i just want to say i ve just tried the lord of the rings beta . it runs like a dream on my pc . it grabs you within the first couple of hours . if your looking for something new try dont go for vanguard . THIS GAME HAS NO REDEAMING FEATURES . once again i ll say DONT TRY DONT BUY DONT BOTHER ...... go for lord of the rings instead at least that has some potential and it ll play well on a medium spec pc .
VANGUARD IS ONE OF THE WORST GAMES ITS BEEN MY MISFORTUNE TO EXPERIANCE

As someone who has been playing D&D since the 70's, MUD's since the early 90's and almost every mainstream (and not so mainstream) mmorpg to date (the exception is WWII... the only one I have not played), I feel 100% opposite from you. I have played LOTRO since the day beta opened and I really hope it does well, but Vanguard, in my opinion, has it all over it in every aspect.
But that's the beauty of opinions, eh? You are entitled to yours and I am entitled to mine and in the end neither means diddly squat to the next guy
http://www.warcry.com/content/reviews/vanguard/5 guess i was right all along the problem with the game graphic are with the client and not mid ranged pcs . so ignore anyone who says otherwise . even if you have a monster of a system its highly probably this game wont run on it . also this review nixes the argument that most mmorpgs ar nt finnished and gives clear reasons why vanguard should not have been released so early in its development . anyway i m currently enjoying the burning crusade but i m still hoping a new game will come along to topple warcraft .....next time i wont believe the hype and i ll definatly want to try before i buy ....good luck to those of you who enjoy the unfinnished game enough to fund its development . personally i think its a waste of time and money . because i d say it was obvious this game will disapear in all due course .

And that review is as old as this bumped thread. You jealous and have to say same thing as everyone else is.
But anyway, warcry.com is positive about Vanguard and that shows if you actually bother to read that review, the whole of and not only picks out the negative parts.
well how about that soe take over sigil and now promise to try and improve its peformance dont cha just love it all those people who were defending it saying it was down to low spec pcs etc all been proven wrong in that one statment . lots of people in this thread with egg on thier faces i think . BUT and thats a big BUT if soe do manage to sort it out .it may yet be a decent game . BUT given past glorys i think this is gonna be one to consign to the rubbish heap . in the meantime how about making it free to play till it gets sorted . lol i just love being proven right all along .
I think the best advice people can offer as far as Vanguard is concerned is this: I liked it for these reasons and these are other games I liked. These are my computer specs. Conversely, I didn't like Vanguard for these reasons and these are other games I liked and didn't like. Also with computer specs. Both sides of this should be coupled with: Get a buddy key and try it for yourself.
Stating one's opinion is great. However, a blanket statement of "it's crap and don't go near it," along with "anyone who plays this is stupid (or worse)" is utterly useless.
I got a buddy key, I tried the game, I enjoyed it. Although I did complain a lot about the almost 24 hour download time.
The game so far has been fun for me, and an entirely new experiance. The performance isn't great, infact I expected a lot better but im not talking 10FPS or anything, just that with my current build I expected better performance. My enjoyment however is not based on graphics and from what Ive seen so far im happy.
I will probably buy the game in the next week or so, and I will more than likely hand my buddy key out on here and let someone else form their own opinion of the game.

Different people like different games, that's just it.
Just as a sidenote. The first convesation I had in Lotro started with "Hey noob, what's up?" That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the conversation. Mind you, this was on Laurelin(sp?) the RP server.

Yeah thats right, in 6 months time when we are still playing vanguard and you are sick or boring old LOTRO, good luck finding something else to play. By the way how long since you tried VG? in beta? try it now you will be very surprised.
Brad had his chance, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". Vanguard is dead on its feet, and with solo advancement intentionally weak you will advance slowly while "lfg" the entire game because no one plays! Thanks SOE employees for your glowing reports of the worst game since D&L to be launched!
If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)
No amount of Vanboi spin can overcome the fact that the servers are empty, players are screaming for server merges, and the game is selling a pittance of boxes each month now. "Primetime" populations on most servers don't even break the 1000 player mark.
It's great if you enjoy the game, but that has no bearing on the fact that the game itself is a walking corpse.

Sorry WOW < EQ PERIOD. WoW just made it easier for you mmo illiterate people. Shot Vanguard > WoW, I was against wow before it even came out. So don't think this was just my love for eq hating on wow. WoW good game for 10 year olds but once you get to a certain point in your life you want more from you games. Hence what vanguard tried to do, and would have if at least 80 percent of the computers in the world could play it at full frames at launch. Yet the performance issues killed it and thats final. Just because somthing have 8 mil+ subscribers doesnt make it a better game. Just more popular and thats FINAL WoWboi!!
Not to mention, "...after playing for a bit..." Instant credibility.
That is always a favorite of mine.....
Alright fellas, then riddle me this.... How long does one have to play to know the game isn't to their liking?
I can listen to a song and in less than ten seconds I know I don't like...
I can watch a TV show and in less then two minutes know I don't like...
I can start a book and in less than a chapter I know it won't hold my interest...
And I know the same holds true for most people.
So this crap about "give it time it will grow on ya" is just BS
Exactly. One should not have to invest a lot of time or money into a game to know if it's for them or not. The game, most importantly one you are expected to pay monthly just to play at all, should hook you right away and within the first few minutes make you want to pay to play it. It's called first impressions and they mean a LOT and are extremely important in a lot of things in this world. A mmorpg shouldn't be held to a different standard. It would be one thing if once you purchased the game that was all the money you spent on it. A mmorpg has to prove it's worth the monthly fee. This is what the free month is for be even then it shouldn't take the entire month.
At the least it should take an hour or two. Get a feel for creation, controls, npcs, fighting, lore, etc. At the most it should a week max. I don't give a damn if the end game or middle game is great. If the beginning and lower level game is crap then it isn't worth forcing myself through. My time is worth more then that. I am worth more then that. You all are worth more then that. Like anything it comes down to personal taste though. I shouldn't have to feel frustrated, struggle, or as if I'm working (games are for enjoyment, not to be a second job) in order to finally have fun or enjoyment two months or more later.
Brad had his chance, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". LOL.... while its true that performance issues helped contribute strongly to VG's lackluster launch, you forgot to mention many of the other faults that have been well documented in thousands of other posts on these forums.
Together they contributed to the game just not being very fun for me and most other people.....

He was NOT attacked for his oppinion. He was attacked for telling people NOT TO BUY THIS GAME, and he did not back up his statement with Valid un biased attacks. Basically he was attacked for ATTACKING the game.
Umm.. Actually, yes he did back it up with valid points. Un-biased is tricky here because he, personally, experienced them so of course his PoV is biased toward that.
He said he had trouble controlling his character - That's a valid point, and yet he was called a liar.
He said that mobs disappear while you're fighting them - which is certainly a glitch, and one that I remember happening to me back in beta. Someone confirmed it's a known glitch and dismissed it as such... Regardless, it was a valid point.
He pointed out a few other things that were all his own experience and were all valid points... yet others went on to call them a liar.
Seems the only problem here is that VG has some fans who just will not accept a negative PoV about "their game".
Where's the problem here.. The OP paid the same $$ as anyone else here to play the game and has as much right to post his negative experiences as anyone else does to post their positive ones.

yet if he stated it was a great game and such and told everyone to go and and buy it without stating why they should it would be ok right?
No...
But I'd bet money that the VG faithful would have been right behind him, cheering him and the game on, not knocking him or calling him a liar for making "baseless claims".
Come on, let's be intellectually honest here, shall we? It's the same in every game's forums. The fans of it will attack anything negative uttered about it, regardless if its valid or not.
A portion of VG's fanbase is proving to be no different.

I agree, that guy came in here to troll and not to discuss. Even if trolling was not his intention coming to the forums and not making a valid case with anything other than his word did not help his argument.
lol.. And what would be a valid case, exactly?
Should he recorded and posted fraps movies of every issue he mentioned, overseen by forensics to make sure it's legit and not doctored? Give me a break. You and I both know even if he provided that, the undying fans here would still find a way to dismiss it.

ONCE AGAIN.... it's not his oppinions that where getting attacked it's the fact he's TELLING people NOT TO BUY OR EVEN TRY the game BECAUSE of his personal experiences. You guys seem to be forgetting how he titled and ended his post.
Heres an example of how it could have been better
Now these can either be PRO's or CON's depending on what you're looking for
The game is VERY OPEN it is very wide and very large.
It has ALOT of options and possiblities to do. Bewteen crafting diplomacy and exploring theres alot of content for anyone
There is ALOT of lore. And by alot i mean ALOT every diplomacy mission has a TON of dialogue
So far i'm seeing a Wide variety of items and gear to choose from and every race looks different sometimes in each.
There are still some bugs to be worked out Some areas mobs disapear it's not whole game just certain starting areas.
The graphics are Finiky to say the least SOME computers they work AWSOME some they just plain DO NOT.
The customer support is 50/50 some people have great experiences some do not. My experience is good as they patch almost every week which is nice cause they are fixing bugs and Tweaking classes and pvp.
The community is ALSO a hit or miss some servers have AMAZING communities full of helpfull people. Some do NOT.
PvP is weird. This game was not made for people so some people feel it seems tacked on and not finished. I cannot comment as i havn't played pvp.
The game has ALOT of growth meaning When you lvl you SURE LVL from lvl 1-10 you gain SO MANY ABILITIES and it never stops. You Truely do get a sense of accomplishment
All this being said. The game IS NOT for everyone in the way Dungeons and Dragons is not for everyone. For some people it is just not their cup of tea. This game will NOT apeal to the masses like some other games do. I personally like the game but i can COMPLETELY see why others may find it less than enjoyable.
The only oppinion i can truely offer is Try the game for yourself if you can afford the 50$. It's alot to fork over for a trial but If you are looking for a new game and the lore and the classes and gameplay systems tweak your fancey i say Why not give it a shot if you're a working person and can afford it.
I hope this helped in some way shape or form. And i do appologise to anyone who got a less than nice response from people.
And... this addresses the fact that he was called a liar and accused of having a crappy system after citing examples of why he doesn't recommend the game, how exactly?
"If you just step away for a sec you will clearly see all the pot holes in the road, and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
the in game graphics are ok but even with my high spec pc i have to run everything on highest performance mode which makes the game look arwful and its still jerky .
Heh I hear that a lot. On my vaio that i bought from best buy with 2 gigs of ram, intel core duo, and single 256mb ati (9800 i think it was) I ran the game on medium sometimes high. On my macbook pro with 2 gigs of ram, intel core 2 duo, and ati x 1600 gfx card I ran the game on meidum always without a proble, and this was all BEFORE the performance boosts. SOME of you people with your super built machines are fooling yourselves.
Oh and. He had valid complaints... VERY vailid Sorry if my former post reflected otherwise... WHAT I MEANT to say was he didn't have valid arguments of why NOT to buy the game theres a big difference.
A complaint is "I don't like the game because of bugs"
An argument is " I do not like the game because of bugs. Here are some of those bugs and how they effectivly made it hard for me to enjoy this game"
"Unable to control my character" (which was later supported by another poster, stating it would happen occasionally when in certain towns), and "mobs disappearing while fighting them" seem pretty self-explanatory to me. Should he really have had to support those with further reasoning?
"I couldn't control my character at times, and this is bad because in a video game, you should be able to control your character. Further, while I was fighting mobs, they would disappear, and this is bad because in a video game, mobs you see shouldn't suddenly disappear like that. It's for these reasons that I do not feel Vanguard is a good game"
Is that more the format he should have posted that in?
Some of the petty nit-picking in these posts - and again, the intellectual dishonesty of them - is really ridiculous.

Would you be this critical if the OP had said it's the best game he'd ever played and he thinks everyone should go out and buy it?
I don't believe you - or anyone else here - would be.
