Never happen , WOW was an anomaly which may never be seen again in a MMORPG
Ah, come on...Have more faith in MMO's...This will definitely happen again, but the world will need at least 600 trillion people playing MMOs at the time with this saturated market lol.
As far as best seller, I thought they don't count pre-orders as sales until the game has actually come out?
Play Vanguard if you want to enjoy some depth and challenge in a game.
I will try out Vanguard when the jungledrumms say it's finished and actually ready to play. Not a second before. I hoped for Vanguard to become successful because i loved Everquest I,the corpseruns, exploss and challeging fights, but i want a working version of Vanguard and not a bugged one like it is atm.
I pre-ordered LOTR the day they came out with the Founders Club info. I was leary at first cause I thought they would be like other games and have a special collectors edition. I'm glad Turbine has one box at release and not some insanely priced collectors edition.
That is the problem with having narrow vision. There are plenty of games I do not care for. I am not a fan of WoW, but I am thankful it succeeded. I am not a fan of Vanguard, but I hope they fix their ship and are successful. Successful games means the market will keep growing, older games will push harder to keep members, and fans win all around. Here is to a long life for LOTRO.
Great outlook. That is my feeling too. I really want Vanguard to succeed as well, but the way they released the product is bad for the MMO industry and my hobby. I know they ran out of money, but that is just poor business management. Anyway, don't want to get into it. I hope all games can find an audience and make a profit.

I pre-ordered the game. It's a great break from WoW. Plus, its only 9.95 a month. I will keep my WoW acccount and add LoTR.
Still cheaper than SOE's Station Access. Had EQ2 and Vanguard. Vanguard is just about unplayable an EQ2 got boring to me, so I was wasting my money. Suspended my account there.
I think alot of people are gonna be surprised when this game hits the shelfs it is going to be a big tidal wave to the mmo market and i am for 1 going to contribute my share to get this game going it is by far the best mmo since FFXI not WOW im not a WOW hater but i just dont think that that game is as hyped as people are saying and yes i have played it right up to lvl 70 and still did not captivate me like this has and i have only been playing this for 2 weeks and it just keeps getting better and better.
Well LOTRO seems like another MMO to appeal to the 12 year olds so I have no doubt it will be a success.
Play Vanguard if you want to enjoy some depth and challenge in a game.
tones, dont take this personally but...WHAT THE HELL MAN... I would say LOTRO is not really geared towards 12year olds. From everything i have read and tryed out in the stress test is that it is geared towards LOTR fans. In the stress test i did not get that far so i dont really have a good grasped on how complexed its gonna be but still. There is so much LOTR lore that i dont think a 12 year old will appreciate. WoW has crap lore, that is not consistine with Warcraft RTS game. I hope that it will get more complex later in the game(only got to shire as hobbit) but it seams fun because i am in middle earth. A 12 year old doesnt care about that as say a guy in his 20 or 30 that is a LOTR fan. hell i wouldnt be surprised if my grandma wants to play who is a LOTR fan.

I would just ignore comments like those posted by tones. Those opinions are extremist, inflammatory and far removed from reality.
So far I have to agree that because of its subject matter and Turbine's apparent commitment to it, LOTRO is set to have the most complex in-game lore of any MMO to date. I may only be a casual fan of Tolkien's works compared to some, but as a 32-year-old gamer who does appreciate depth and challenge in a game, I can definitely see that LOTRO has tremendous potential. Many 12-year-olds will probably not appreciate all the many references to the books. I know I'm missing some of it and I plan to re-read the books soon to get a refresher.
VANGUARD, on the other hand is suffering greatly from poor lore development. It's one of the concerns many initial players have brought up. There is no sense of purpose or direction for your character. Consequently, most players simply focus on the rudiments of leveling, crafting and dungeon crawling that have been a staple of this genre for a decade.
And at the end of the day, what is really wrong with playing with younger players? I put up with it for over two years in WOW and met all kinds. Some of them turned out to be pretty cool. In my guild some younger kids played alongside their parents. Others around the age of 15, with some guidance, filled key roles in raids and were some of the most dependable and helpful members we had.
Yes, some young players lack maturity, but as in real life children need guidance and typically respond well when the community models mature behavior and treats them with a measure of respect. But often, older players lack the maturity and patience to deal with younger players and only cause problems themselves.
MMOs are virtual communities made up of a lot of different people. How you respond to others can have a big impact. I'd rather play in a dynamic, family-oriented community than one full of intolerate, self-centered people quick to judge others and slow to work at building a healthy community.
LOTRO appears to be right on track as a game that will appeal to a broad range of players, while providing extra depth for Tolkien fans and gamers willing to look past the first 10 entry levels, misconceptions about the game world's size and a grind-to-max-level mentality.
The fact this is quickly becoming a best seller in pre-sale does not shock me. The community feedback coupled with the license is bound to create some good start up activity.
So, while some say LOTRO is light and if you want real depth go play Vanguard then why do I find myself gravitating to playing LOTR beta even though my characters will be wiped? I am now paying for Vanguard too.
I like Vanguard in concept and have been ejoying it but I am finding the sheer fun factor of LOTRO along with the lore and setting to be drawing me back. I personally believe this game will have some legs on it. I cannot imagine what the high rez client graphics will look like since the game setting looks fine to me now. It should be nice.
Also, lots of people who think it is too easy and lacking depth of character development probably did not get past 10th or so level during the stress test. Everything seems to get gradually deeper and more involved as you progress through levels and the chapters of the main plot. It has gotten even more of a draw for me post level 10. I like the traits and titles stuff too. I had a character gain the "undefeated" title which does nothing for my stats but looks good in my floaty name!
When they begin to add the other regions people will get to explore some cool areas like Helm's Deep, Moria, and hopefully at some point Mordor. How fun will all that be. Moria could be a massive expansion all by itself.
I am not a Turbine or Tolkien fan boy either and dropped out of DDO after really wanting it to be good but this game, with its lore, polish, stability, and general fun is gaining a fan in me to be sure.
Several months back I thought I would be playing Vanguard and LOTRO and replace LOTRO with Age of Conan or Gods and Heroes when the come out but now I think I will end up replacing Vanguard. I am ready for the double XP weekend with VG though since grinding can be a heavy process.
Honestly, the last MMO I enjoyed as much as LOTRO was DAoC when it first came out and I have played most of the MMOs out there!

I love the fact that the "Hardcore Vanguard Players" are coming here to knock LOTRO. How's it feel to see your game so poorly executed and to see a game NOT EVEN RELEASED clearing stomping all over your holy ground?
I feel sorry for them as well. Ive been beta testing and honestly this game is pretty bad. i was so hyped to play this game and it came crashing down when i was invited to the beta. Just not an appealing game overall. I'm sure someone is gonna call me a wow fanboy or w.e, but lol i hate WoW as well. If you want something to try , go for dungeon runners, its a great game. Quite addicted to it as we speak. I'm a huge Lord of The Rings fan but it just didn't cut it for me.
Of course anyone with a clan signature (or shooter stat graphic, whatever) would dislike a game like this. You have every right to but you can hardly say the game is "bad". It's clearly "great". You might like the type of game it is, but that's completely different than commenting on it's quality.
people who say 'LotRO doesnt have anything new to offer', are focusing on mechanics and not looking at the game world and the quest-based storyline. This game is by far the most immersive mmorpg I have ever played. It really pulls you into the game world and makes you feel part of it.
That being said, if your main object is simply levelling up and getting xp the fastest possible way, and if you dont even read the quest or try to enjoy the world rather than race thru it to the next phat xp spot, well than I can see why you would see that LotRO has nothing new to offer.
The world and the storyline will make the game a success all by itself. But on top of that, the graphics are great and the computer requirements are surprisingly low. Its casual friendly and solo friendly. I agree, the mechanics are reminiscent of WoW... but that will only make the game more accessible to former WoW players. This game will be a big hit. Hell, the sales results are showing that it already IS a big hit.

I love the quests, the graphics blow my mind away and for once I don't mind the long ass walks... I have no need to just start my quest I love reading the quests and see what's going on. Quests are amazing, graphics are amazing, gameplay is pretty good although I wish the fighting was like D&D but Oh well.
I actually did think D&D was kickass but didn't want to pay a subscription due to a shitty computer I had. I upgraded since then but I was watching this game. I'v been in Beta for about a month and I have played a lot. I hav eplayed on almost every weekend 8 hours a day :P (no I don't have a life lol.. jk). Anyways this game is awsome, I love just walking around exploring the graphics and I have to give Turbine a huge thumbs up . But if your the kind of person who only likes to lvl up and shit you won't find this game very fun... This isn't WoW guys so sorry that this isn't even close to being as shitty as WoW. I have stopped playing alot because I don't want to get very far then have to redo it all over again.
On my opinion this is the best MMORPG i'v played since SWG (Yes I liked that game and I played it last year and I thought it kicked ass so don't flame me for my opinion on games). This game is better then SWG IMO (in my opinion). So congrats Turbine and can't wait for the release of the game!
Ah just a side note there are VERY few bugs. I have only seen 1 bug on a quest and it was an optional quest (wasn't main quest or anything) but its been fixed. Other then that bug I havn't seen any others. Its lag free also . So yea 10/10 for Turbine!
I find it funny to those that say LOTRO is great and Wow sucks. I can tell you LOTRO plays a lot like Wow right down to the interface. The questing is just like Wow other then they use outdoor instance for the most part over dungeons. The crafting uses a node system just like Wow though the crafting lacks depth / content right now. I do like the game but it lacks depth that I'm looking for and will not purchase the game until a few expansion hit the market. Mirkwood and Moria the two I would like to see first.

I love how WoW fanboys just like you come here saying LOTRO is a WoW 2 when it isn't. Beta test and you'll notice the difference... So think before you speak thank you.

I don't say WoW sucks (okay I do say it sometimes). WoW is WoW and LOTRO is LOTRO. Yes they have similar aspects, yet I have played both and I can say LOTRO is very different from WoW in my opinion. Yes deep down the interface is pretty darn similar, but if it works, why create and use an untried system while you have one in front of you that works? I wanted to see a new system used for LOTRO, but this works fine, and Turbine has added their touch to it.

I agree. I have been beta testing it and this game has absolutly nothing new to offer. The only reason it got good pre-order is because of the name.
