With all due respect to the game itself, as I do sincerely believe Vanguard has potential to be a very decent game and more than anything I want it's players to have a great game, I just cannot stand reading any more BS PR rhetoric from Brad McQuaid.
Does no one notice how the famous "Vision" has now mysteriously been put asside for upcomming nerfs and buffs and rule changes and pressure to release early? I love how one of his first mass contacts with the community since realease can be basically put as: "Put up with it or leave, we're doing fine on subscriptions with or without you. 'Nuff said."
This really just re-affirms my decission to leave the game and promise myself no matter what they added to just stay away, I refuse to go through another 2 to 3 years of Class nerfs and buffs, world changes and long awaited patches. My gaming time is just to important to me to be treated by complete crap by someone who should be treating me well since I actually pay his salary, especially when it's on top of having to put up with a poorly released, unprepared product.
Nothing but spin. Brad should sell used cars. I have a feeling he would be good at it. For the record he posted on a guild's forums. If he was so interested in getting the information out to us, why isn't it in an official centralized place so that everyone could have access to it? Oh I fogot they don't have any official forums. When they wanted to sell this game they had official forums but they shut them down right before this game went live. I wonder why. The spin on that was so that it would promote a community atmosphere. The only thing it has promoted is frustration.
Any forum is public & you seem to what to criticise Brad for posting or not posting - hes damned if he does & hes damed if he doesn't.

Not many, so i think he deserves our respect even if you don't agree with him.
I find it comical that Sigil chose not to have an official forum for it's subscriber's to be able to use to get information from, choosing instead to create their affiliate program which is supposed to make it easier for us to get information on news regarding Vanguard. Yet all the Dev's including Brad himself continue to all post the most detailed information regarding the game on a uber guild website that isn't apart of the affiliate program they created and forced on their customers.
doesn't change the fact they rushed it out the door in beta stage. It's the most poorly optimized MMO I've ever seen.
Doesn't change the fact that he addressed your concern in detail. Give them a break already. It was a choice, release now or never, PERIOD! What part of "extending beta wasn't an option" that you (and others) can't comprehend I don't understand.

I just can't see daming Vanguard to oblivion after only 5-6 weeks...
If you played beta then you knew the game was hard on most computers, so why come in here now continue to bitch about it when you have already made it clear your not playing the game anymore...
I understand the hate SWG players have against SOE with them basicaly stabbing them in the back and leaving them in the ally to die, but I don't understand that same hate here where Sigal has not change the game all that much, at least not from the open beta I played...

If he wanted some respect he should have made real official forums on the games official website so there would always be real communication and accountability with his player base. As a paying customer, I shouldn't have to go on a scavenger hunt of third party websites to find out what the hell is going on. If he wanted some respect he should have released a game that actually worked, and worked with a computer matching the requirements listed on the box. How about not selling out his hardcore gamer base by trying to hold onto the audience the game wasn't intended for? How about not banning guild leaders for having guild bank alts by accusing them of RMT (didn't happen to me, but people I knew), all the while your game is bug infested?
It's not about respect for facing the fire, it's about accountability for all the people who got burned buying this game based on what he sold it as. It's accountability because Brad McQuaid represents why this genre has been spiraling down the toilet, the release of incomplete bug ridden software in beta stages with a retail version sticker slapped on it in a desperate attempt to acquire funding for a botched project. Instead of taking responsibility and being honest, he tells what's left of his faithful fans to buy new hardware because it must be the gamers fault that Vanguard runs like a hot steaming pile of deuce, even though many have already shelled out good money and are using the latest technology.
Posting on the forums doesn't get him a free pass because its not a gift from God, it's to be expected from paying customers who have given him money to fund a beta project against their knowledge.

It doesn't take courage to post on a website where the majority of players won't even see it. Brad posted as a form of damage control mainly due to the problems with the patch. As chief executive he damn well should be on forums if he truly wants to turn things around and make money. I have never criticized him or Sigil for not posting. But there seems to be a huge information gap that could be solved with centralized forums instead of Brad and dev's posting on selective sites.
I stand by what I said about it being nothing but spin. If I were in his shoes, I'd be saying the same exact thing. He wants to make money so he's not going to come out and say anything negative. He's going to try to paint as rosy a picture as he possibly can. Right now he's telling people what he thinks they want to hear and there's nothing upfront or honest about it. He'd tell you he was Satan himself if he thought it would gain him more subscribers. I'd do the same thing. More subsriptions equals more money. Respect is something you earn over time. It's not something you give when people tell you what they think you want to hear.

i agree that they should have had Official forums & it is still a future option.
Sigil was forced to realease for financial reasons so its obvious that they did not have the money or staff to do it properly so they made the decision to put their resourses into getting the game fixed & optimised.

You're right that was a bad choice of words and as someone who's been there I should know better.
What I meant was released minus level 2-3 bugs. I have a relatively midrange setup. 3.4 Ghz P4, Nvidia 7600GTO 2 Gigs of ram. There is no excuse for the stuttering I was geting even on higher performance settings.
I'm not VG bashing as I like what there trying to do but SOE rushed these guys and it's a dirty shame. You see how hard it's been for EQII after having performance problems early on.
Titles rarely make a comeback after so-so launches.

I agree with you Paragus1. I reserve "respect" for a company that puts out a quality product and communicates well with the customer. I withhold my "respect" for a company that puts out an infirior quality product and then slides around and backpeddles then finds it has to do damage control because the walls are closing in. What they are doing now is facing the music. Its what is expected and deserves no "respect".
This entire defence of "oh they had to release it early because they ran out of money" is backwards. Tuff, thats business, its called project management. They released an unfinished product still missing many key features (like Caravans and fully implemented diplomacy as described on their website features for example) and charged YOU for it full price hoping to "get by" until they could patch it up.
Enough has been written about this game by you guys. Defend it if you like, you are paying for it but the whether you likeit or not judgement is set. Average review 6.9 out of 23 reviews. Locked, stock and barrel
No one is forcing anyone to play the game if you consider it not to be ready - wait a few months or go play Lotro or Aoc.
If you want to judge it by a review thats your privaledge - why is it that people want to believe bad things instead of looking at what is good.
Most of the negative issues will get resolved so it doesn't bother me - there is plenty to enjoy ingame.
My judgement is by actually playing the game myself & it it my choice to pay for VG based on its merits - not what some reviewer says that may only have got a noob lvl10 character. lol

lol, yea, I can just see it if Smedley were to go on any forum publicly.....
After reading what Brad had to say I believe that he pretty much confirmed what I had planned on doing. I was going to give the game a try in a year or so. He seems to think it will be ready to play at that time. The game looks very promising and I salute all the beta testers who are paying to play the game right now. In a year's time I'm hoping that the game will be worth spending my coin on. Until then I will continue to lurk in the forums to see what changes are being made to make this game the best it can be. I think the only problem I might have is that the pay beta testers get to keep their characters, which means that I will have a lot to do to catch up. Ah well, I guess if the game is great I won't care so much. Plus, if the game stinks then I can just play other mmorpg's and single player rpg's.
Hmm, it seems that Mr. McQuaid has a bit of a problem with premature ejaculation, so he thinks that he can make up for it with a little oral. It's a shame he sucks at that, too.
How about finishing the job the first time around, mate.

The "No MMO is ever finished on release" comment is a complete cop-out.
No one is saying that any MMO should be content-completed on release, what customers do or at least "should" expect is at least a BARE-MINIMUM of refinement to a product you are selling on shelves.
Things like listed features, supported hardware, network support, code support, technical support, file management. These are all basics. I think you'll find the average MMO'er very patient and fair when it comes to a lack of content at release, what they do seem to want is some measure of polish and acceptable playability.

QFT.
The fact that he expects people to buy and pay to play what amounts to a fairly early beta test is not only an insult to his customers, but to his own product. As a consumer, you really should have a lot more respect for yourself and your money, and be a lot more careful as to who you give your money to, and what for.
And you can say what you want about my maturity, but as crass as I may have been, it's the truth.

There was one who posted very regularly.
David Bowman. Horizons.
Also, just to add Jessica Mulligan from Nevraz posted regularly on her own forums, as well others. Even here more than occasionally. Not only did she have the courage but she would invite people to her blog and have serious discussions about the game and it's direction.
We have a LOT of cool stuff planned (city building, mounted combat, ship to ship combat, better AI and more interesting dungeon layouts and population, eventually user generated content and a more dynamic world, and so much more
In a PC Gamer preview from september 2006, it said that it will "include tools to keep your group from falling apart as they journey across the world" (the caravan system). What happened to that? Now they're talking about putting in teleporting? What happened to the caravan? What happened to the fellowship system? Fixing exploits. Ok. Sure. What about monster AI? "AI will take advtage of every surface area in the game" and would do things like having spiders crawling up walls? What about hte advanced encounter system that "will automatically spawn extra creatures and monsters when more players arrive in an area so that there will be plenty to go around"? That didn't make it either?
So wait, all those things were promised in 2006. September 2006. That was less than half a year ago. Where did they all go? And now you're talkinga bout mounted combat and ship to ship combat? What about all the things you promised before? If you can't follow up on things you said would be in the game in interviews given only a months before launch, how can we trust that we'll ever see any of this?
I'm sorry Brad, I gave it a shot and it's a mess. I dont' know if you'll ever be able to fix it, and I'm not doing SWG all over again. By the way, tell SOE that they need to make the cancel button work so that I don't have to make a 25 minute call to San Diego to cancel. I'm suprised you guys can legally get away from having the option to cancel simply not work, and it's not just me that had an issue with that. But hey, I know you "want to do things to make people keep subscribing."
After reading what Brad had to say I believe that he pretty much confirmed what I had planned on doing. I was going to give the game a try in a year or so. So you don't play the game, but intend to, and in the mean time you insult everyone playing the game.
You do realize the game works. That you can craft, build a house, a boat, get a mount, group, do dungeons. You know they added more stuff right?
Basically what your saying is that us beta testers can play with all the interesting new stuff when it comes out a year from now, and you'll forgo playing the game for now, and get your kicks being rude on the internet instead?
If everything the few of you guys post on this site, about how the game is unplayable and there's no content, then why is it that I can log in every night and do quests; solo, or in a group. Basically I seem able to do the EXACT oposite of the things a lot of you lie about.

Locked, stock and barrel
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/vanguard/review.html?mode=web&om_act=convert&om_clk=stats (lets hear how he plans on fixing that)
I haven't seen this much of a mess of a game, both technically and PR since Horizons (David Bowman) and The Dark and Light fiasco.
Tired of devs pushing out crappy, unfinished MMO's???? Do something about it.

My judgement is by actually playing the game myself & it it my choice to pay for VG based on its merits - not what some reviewer says that may only have got a noob lvl10 character. lol
LOL anyone starting to believe me now about this guy being the biggest BS artist in the industry?
Keep digging your hole deeper Brad.
Hmm, it seems that Mr. McQuaid has a bit of a problem with premature ejaculation, so he thinks that he can make up for it with a little oral. It's a shame he sucks at that, too.
How about finishing the job the first time around, mate. How do you kill that which has no life?

Also, just to add Jessica Mulligan from Nevraz posted regularly on her own forums, as well others. Even here more than occasionally. Not only did she have the courage but she would invite people to her blog and have serious discussions about the game and it's direction.
