People leave MMORPGs all the time. If you've ever recruited for a guild, you know it never stops.
You cannot draw any conclusions from the few people you know to be quitting. And in my experience, the ones that are always threatening to quit are the ones that play the most and don't end up quitting. Blizzard aren't lying, move along.
listen here fan boi. i'm not talking about "the few people i know from my guild" i'm talking about mass numbers of people i know. i've seen more hard-core wow'rs quit recently then you can shake a stick at. not only that but several of the top guilds on my server have gone to hell due to this. the most incomming people i see are server transfer toons or the same old people playing new toons with the introduction of the drenari and the blood elfs.
So youve seen 30-50 quit, im sure there are many thousands more to take thier places. I used to see peopel quitting wow all the time on my server, only for new people to spring up immediatley, so please..............move along.

Even if you saw 1000 people quit, then that still wouldn't mean anything, because 1000 people is nothing when we are talking about 8,5 million players.
although some of the players quited the game eventhough 1000 quited it won't hurt the population of the game since it hits 8.5 million..and still continues to grow..every day new players are counted to the community
Yep, that makes sense, padded on another .5 million with players returning to play TBC..... but...some are leaving already.... we'll see how the numbers look in the next quarter....
wonder if any other mmo can pad those kind of numbers
if another mmo is FUN and not a mind numbing grind; then i could care less how many millions, or thousands, are playing it. i'm there to have fun. not to pay someone to let me work and grind INSTEAD of having fun.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Just a heads up, don't believe everything you read. "Subscribers" also includes resubscriptions via BC purchases. People that canceled and reupped for the expansion, and free trial people. Log on a heavy server, you'll be amazed at how many people cannot use mailboxes...
But i'll give credit where credit is due, its the best all encompassing PVP/Raiding game out there. Until something comes along to challenge it, all hail the mmo king and their 40million dollar a month bunkers. I personally, will keep my 15 bucks. After 2 years and an expansion that was the exact same thing as the launch, i was beyond dissapointed. But opinions are like buttholes i suppose, everyone has one, and most stink.

Just one thing blizzard forgot to say ..
8.5 million account .. perhaps we can not verify if it is active account or opened account ( then could be frozen or not )
But only 3.5 million BC sell ... where are the 5 millions missing ? closed ? still frozen ?
Even you say me "Everybody did not bought bc they will buy it soon", I will answer "or not" we all know that for the release of BC we were affraid about the quantity of box available ... Thousands of boxes stay in store.. some store are beguinning to resend boxes to vendors as they have too much stock.. And after 2 years you have 2 cases in wow : Buy BC to continue Leave the game (play at lvl 60 whitout BC is not possible)

There is a simple reason why ONLY 3.5 million copies of BC sold. It was only released in NA and Europe. Blizz has not made an Asian version of BC yet.
Some realy need to do some basic research b4 posting, free trials are not counted and inactive accounts aint counted.
World of Warcraft®'s Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.
Thats 8.5 million people handing over some kind of subscription/payment for the month of february.
I think WoW will peek when TBC hits asia, I think autum 2007 onwards WoW numbers will decrease, but 8.5 million wont dissapear over night, Wow still has 3-4 years in it yet. And by that time blizz next MMO will be buring up the charts.
I think the above post makes the most sensible predictions. We may see some more growth, but these numbers can't keep going forever. I'm sure WoW will have a healthy, massively profitable and enviable population for 5+ years, but then numbers will decline at some point I'm sure...
Though you never know with WoW. I could be saying this and in 3 years time WoW might bring out an expansion pack with playable goats and chicken-men that kills off the game entirely
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
...only 3.5mil... people are starting to realize that TBC might not be that exciting at all. lot of people are getting really disappointed, but i think those people are mostly the hardcore ones, people that have played it all out and are left with nothing new to do.

Only 3.5 million?
Have you read this thread? Tip: Read the first response. You've misunderstood completely. BC is a MASSIVE SUCCESS.
Shall I spell it out for you.
... 8.5 million customers. 3.5 million in asia. BC not released in asia.
Sigh... woW bashers don't even KNOW why they're bashing WoW anymore, they just do it for the sake of it.

WOW doesnt have 8.5 million customers. It has 8.5 million subscriptions.
Definition of a subscription from Blizzard website.
"World of Warcraft's Customer Definition
World of Warcraft customers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or purchased a prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the installation box bundled with one free month access. Internet Game Room players that have accessed the game over the last seven days are also counted as customers. Customers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules."
One person can buy 10 prepaid cards (Gold Farmers?) and thatll be counted as 10 subscriptions. Im not denying WOWs popularity because its a very popular game, but the information you was putting up was incorrect.

What exactly are you trying to say?
Is it the prepaid card stuff you have based your "facts" on?
Blizzard never said that if one customer buys 10 cards, it will be counted as 10 customers. I could buy 10 cards, and use them all to pay for 1 single account over a long period of time. But I guess that if I do, you would call me a Gold Farmer for some reason...
EDIT: Seems you have trouble yourself by holding the terms "customers" and "subscribers" apart. You claim to have copied "definition of a subscription", but the header in the copied text say "curstomer".
He was referring to my post, where I incorrectly used the term customers instead of subscribers. Since all MMO's only describe their populations in terms of subscribers, with no true way of knowing how many unique customers there are, it's quite a redundant thing to say!
To me it's just semantics. To WoW haters it makes all the difference in the world

Blizzards states that they have 8.5 million subscriptions. I personally have two accounts paying subscriptions. Some may only have one account while others have more, but either way, Blizzard would count me as having two subscriptions.
If you buy yourself a number of prepaid cards, and use them over a period of time for one account, good for you. The reality is, not everybody does this with the same intentions.

30000 accounts closed along with 30 million gold for the Month of May.
You seriously think Blizzard banned 165,000 customers?
Accounts not customers...and yes. Funny , people have been coming up with all kinds of theories on why or how Blizzard doesnt really have the amount of accounts they claim to have. The funniest part is...theyve been doing it for teh past 2+ years. Always something new...its highly amusing.
Whenever someone tries to post anything about WoW, what happens? All those haters and self-acclaimed hardcore vets spams the whole post, telling how bad this game is, how noobish and easy it is, how it lack contents, etc, and how unreliable and greedy Blizzard is.
Why? I can only guess...
No matter how hard you are trying to mock, one fact remains: WoW is the most successful game, ever, in any western MMORPG game company's history! The sales figures speaks a very clear language: WoW has won, period!
So from now on, why don't you leave WoW to those who loves it? You have made your points, you hate WoW, and everything associated with it. It's time for you to move on.
WoW is easy and it does lack end game content. It also has a bunch of other things I dont like about it. That being said the game is the most fun I ever had leveling a toon. I dont know why people hate it so much. I dont hate it I just accept it for what it is. Just a matter of opinion I guess.
