When do you think WAR will ACTUALLY make it out?

We've seen greenskin, dwarves, and some humans. Have we seen any of the chaos stuff yet? If they still have ALL of the elf models/animations, and the chaos model/animations to go, you can bet that there is still a TON of work to do. I played the game at Gencon and it felt pretty solid. Other then the somewhat boring wow-like combat, it will definately be polished when it's released. This game is currently slated for the end of this year, do you guys think it will make it?

Considering most games get pushed back multiple times I will guesstimate that it comes out around february or march 08!

It would be sweet if Mythic can get it out this year like they're planning, but with the fact that they haven't revealed anything about 1/3 of the races/classes I just don't think that there is enough time left in this year.  My guess is sometime in '08.

Knowing Mythic, it will be ready very close to their targeted date. They didn't push back DAoC once and it released right when they planned. It was also the smoothest release of an MMO I had ever experienced, including WoW. I'd guess it will be ready in November.

Ignore him, he posted in a AoC topic that everyone will be playing WAR. Seems like he is just trying to incite flames.

I think it will be on schedule.

It almost has to be, if it wants to make a statement.

Although were missing info on the elf factions still we shouldn't  fret.

Gamespot has it listed as coming out on 4Q of 2007.

The monthly newsletter has released character info every month since July 06.

    2 Classes a month.

Since Empire and Chaos was released with some detail recently, I think its safe to assume that april will show us the new classes at an increased pace.

SHould have all class info by  May 07 latest, june.

October could happen, but a Christmas launch is likely.

I would consider AoC thier main competitor in this segment, and it looks like its releasing oct30.It would be the worse time to release a game in feb/march. I don't think EA would put up with that, and from what I hear they crack the whip pretty hard there. My bet is definately before thanksgiving.

Both AoC and WAR are going to sell just fine, so long as both of these games make their game polished BEFORE release. Let them take as long as they need so long as it is a complete and polished product. I think we took one on the chin with Vanguard :Saga of Heroes.

I think you're right in that both WAR and AoC will do well.

They do cater to slightly different audiences.

From a marketing standpoint ,march would be terrible. If it comes down to a march/april release date,I wouldn't be surprised if it were pushed back to oct 08.Similiar to what Aoc did.Im sure both will do good.its just a question of will AoC take all the old dormant DAoC gamers And leave war to pick up new mmo players and former wow players.Im not picking on wow players(Got some great land in the everglades for yah too) ,but this(release dates) will have an impact on the player base.War unlike Vanguard will and does work,Myhics best move was to outsource the game engine(gamebryo 2.2),Daoc used 1.5.So all they need to do is graphics and play balance. And beta testing never helps play balance as much as when it is released.

All that being said Im betting oct/nov 07'.

If AoC really looks like it is now going to be released at the end of October, there will be tremendous pressure on Mythic to release WAR sometime in November or early December.  WAR and AoC are clearly aimed at slightly different audiences, but because they are both aimed at the PvP set, it's clear as day that they are going to be competing head to head for subs at the outset in the same way WoW and EQ2 were jockeying for position in 2004 before they were both released within two weeks of each other that November.

So my guess is that there will be a ton of pressure to get WAR out the door by early December at the latest so as to get some of that uptake of subs that could otherwise go to AoC.

Wow, some of you are predicting a rather short and gimped Beta phase for this game.  Oct/Nov '07?  Did we learn nothing from Sigil's Vanguard?

It's April, and they haven't even really started on the Elf races.  I figure another 3-5 months just to put in most of the content and do baseline balancing of the classes.  Then another 4-6 months of Closed and Open Beta.  I would be stunned if they could finish up by December!

I'm hoping for a Feb or March '08 release.  My intuition tells be that Conan isn't going to be the hit everyone thinks, and a few months' buffer between the two games would be ideal.  And late Q1 is a good time to release games.  Everyone and their uncle tries to release their games in Q4, for the Christmas rush, which means that fewer games are launched in Q1.  Fewer games means less competition, not only in sales, but in publicity.

    Seriously.

Imo EA will put some pressure on the devs or hire some extra people to get it done before thanksgiving / christmas

Well, lets just put it this way,

AoC is going to Dominate the Industry for at Least  6 months before WAR goes Live.

Competitive with Aoc aside, the game is already running smoothly. I think they tried to get parts of the game complete and then use a module design philosophy to add in stuff. I'm not sure how long it will take to get both of the elf races going, but I'm assuming 2-3 months like another poster. That puts us at beginning of july for a closed beta test, maybe 3 months more of refining and open beta, and I think an October release could be possible. That said, scope creep always happens to some extent, and this assumes that every goes according to plan when it comes to setting up their servers and finishing up enough content to keep the player base happy upon launch.

I find it unlikely it will launch in December.  If it's going to launch before Christmas, it needs to launch in November/October.  If it launches in December, it won't get any space on retail shelves, as that space has already been taken up by other titles.  Retailers want a game by November if they're going to reserve shelf space for it through Christmas.

I also am worried that it might not release before the end of the year, though I also feel it won't be out soon enough.  If it can make November with some good polish, that would be great, but otherwise, its beginning to seem more likely we'll see it in Q1 or Q2 '08.  Which is too bad.

q1/q2 of 08',a summer time launch, not good.Beta is way overrated, they already have a proven game engine from DAoC,just a newer version.Im sure EA can paint a few elfs and launch in 07'.If it cant launch for holiday sales EA is gonna clean house on Mythic,EA dont play. They have already been sued and lost for 80 hr work weeks.

Besides we don't really even know what they have done so far, they wont release that for competitive reasons.

I would  say if mythic cant release by november that EA will sit on it till next holiday season and replace or downsize most of the current Mythic staff.

I agree that a Q1/Q2 launch would be bad for the game.  MMOs are seasonal games -- everyone who plays them knows this.  People sock it in and play MMOs during the winter, and slog off them when the weather is nice in Spring and Summer.  Releasing an expac during that timeframe is not so bad, because you already have your established base.  But for a launch, you want as many winter months in the extremely near future after launch as possible, because that's the peak season for MMO playing.  So if it will drag into 1Q 08, one would hope that it would be a slight drag (say January) -- dragging into March of 08 would be very bad for the launch of the game, because a month or two after launch people are bugging off to do non-MMO things to a much greater degree than they are in the dead of winter.
