First off, these school shootings are about the same as people going suicide bomber/ak-47'ing a school in other countries.

These aren't really big deals this is what happens when we as a society basically say "sure make fun of that quiet guy over there, it's okay..he can't do jack anyhow"

Well mr.quiet goes and gets daddy's guns and the rest is history.

    Tragic? Yeah.

    Justified? No.

Probally provoked by a few douche bags that set a already overboard kid into kill bot mode? YEP.

Saddly it was probally 2 or so that deserved it...and 30 is a bit much. Unless half the school made fun of him at sometime or another.

Just a note to you kiddo's out there: Stop mocking the weird kids, you may just save your life.

Sure big guys can punch hard, but a AR15 punches alot harder, alot faster, and will definately destroy your life.

    The more you know!

     A few examples:

    car theft:

    US

    1,237 million for 293 million people =421/100 000 inhabitants

    Belgium

    18450 voor 10.355.844 inw = 179/100 000 inw

    Homocide

    US: 5,6

    Belgium: 1,5

    rape

    US: 31,7

    Belgium: 24,8

Something makes the US society more violent. Honestly wouldn't know what.

The US is bigger, so the numbers inflate?

Come on mate...come on, lets get some violence per square mile going on.

Aww, someone is all defensive and grouchy today, too bad your schooling never taught you demographics did it?

You can't compare a area like say harlem to an area like "ritz ville".

    Lets compare poverty levels USA-Belgium.

Or we can be smart about this and throw off silly statistics because..

More people = more social activity, more social activity has more effects in the masses,

So your  5 people may get along fine..

But our 500 people may not due to the fact it's 500 fricking people.

Nice stats unfortunately stats don't prove crap when we're talking social structures.

Soon you'll learn that statistics are usually crap in school.

Anyway, yea it is a tragic event, but people die every day in equally tragic events. This is just another ratings booster for news stations.

Belgium has a far denser popluation than the US. Far, far, far denser. So does most of Western Europe. Population is highly concentrated.  More than in the US. Even in countries like Sweden or Finland that have large uninhated stretches of land.

So our 5000 people should kill more according to your "reasoning"... But they don't. Your 5 kill more, not according to "your reasoning".

Europe also has more cultures and more languages and more immigrants on a smaller spot of land. There are more past conflicts and there is far greater economical disparity.

Same actually goes for Belgium. 3 National languages, vastly different history for almost every town, faced dozens if not hundreds of wars and battles, has a very large and young immigrant population, increasing economical disparity, large part of the country gets increasingly poorer, ...

Yet, less homocide and less crime.

Perhaps go back to school with your home-made demographics and put them to the test.

It may be denser, but you fail to account that america has these things called states, and each state has a whole load of people in them. So Vermont will not be as dense as say ...lets see whats a stereotyped state some kid might know...Oh! Jersey!

It's a no duh situation, regardless of dense populations in one small, yes belgium is small; country it still says nothing for the fact that less people= less crime. Duh.

So our 5000 people should kill more according to your "reasoning"... But they don't. Your 5 kill more, not according to "your reasoning".

"Your reasoning" is defending yourself on a weak argument that  you have a smaller region of land and smaller population than america which is vastly bigger, far more diverse with both land types and population (if you even try to say you guys have more immigrants than the USA, you are a moron) that the violence wouldn't scale.

Europe also has more cultures and more languages and more immigrants on a smaller spot of land. There are more past conflicts and there is far greater economical disparity.

You may have a smaller plot of land however for the most part it's all the same culture, basically. With America we get say...Arabs then chinese in the same boat, we get mexicans and cubans , we get alot of melting pot culture, you get mainly what? Europeans who have the same basic cultural background? With a minority of the others?

Same actually goes for Belgium. 3 National languages, vastly different history for almost every town, faced dozens if not hundreds of wars and battles, has a very large and young immigrant population, increasing economical disparity, large part of the country gets increasingly poorer, ...

America doesn't even have a national language, each area is different whether it's "States" (not sure if you have ever heard of them) or cities (which most of the major cities can almost fill belgium's populace)

We have the same amount of cultures here because guess what? EVERY culture that can be is here, and they toss themselves in segregated areas generally, for instance "China Town", or "Czech town" Or "Russian Town".

Yet, less homocide and less crime.

Lets compare belgium to vermont. Pssst Vermont is a state. Even Idaho (thats a state too) or Washington (Thats a big state).

You aren't seeing the demographics, you  can't compare a whole country without looking at other states, the two i mentioned are "laid back" and are of comparable size to belgium.

Perhaps go back to school with your home-made demographics and put them to the test.

Or I can laugh at your lack of understanding demographics and giggle at you like a school girl, you have issues kid.

People make their own guns and if guns were "removed", then people would make their own secret factories like they do with fake currency, and drugs. I actually know a guy who makes guns, of course he does it legally. Then there are cars, knives, poison/anthrax/drugs, bombs and these are all arguably better ways to kill people if you are trying to get away with it. With guns there are ways to figure out who shot the victim but with bombs and poison, things can be a lot more mysterious.

Guns makes killing easier and the more of em the more crazy ideas might be born.

Not necessarily as I pointed out above. Guns are arguably harder to get than some poison (you can even buy it at a grocery store) to put in someones food or drink to kill them. Trust me that by taking away guns people will still get guns or just go to the next thing to kill people.

    All awsome points.

I never did get the mindset of disarming the populace , it fails everytime because the populace just creates their own.

    See>Japan + Sai

I think the dumbest thing to do is to make weapons illegal because chances are the criminals who are doing illegal stuff anyhow will have them anyhow.

Where as the "victims" or general populace fear the law and penalties of having them and thusly do not carry them.

That leads to what we call in my area "jacking".

You can't believe how rediculous the whole "poison" thing sounds to me. The possibilities to kill someone with poison are MASSIVELY fewer than it would be to kill someone with a gun!

Poisoning takes planning, timing and luck for that matter. Gunning takes a split second! See someone on the street, pull up a taco, poison it and ask if the person would like to eat it, bring up a gun and finish it right away.

I think what he's trying to say is there are so many ways to kill people, even finding creative ways to do it. Guns are just as deadly as other means. For example, using airplanes filled with passengers and smashing it into buildings filled with people.  Banning guns won't neccesaryily stop the killer from executing his/her assault.

    Serin (SP?) Gas FTW.

Dude poisoning people isn't cloak and dagger style, only small scale.

You create enough poison gas in your basement using a compressor and whatever... you can take out subways loads of people.

You create enough poison gas in your basement using a compressor and whatever... you can take out subways loads of people.

Um you all seem confused here.

Taking out loads of people, the gun isn't the smartest option. Could be effective but hell there are much more smart ways, and cruel.

I obviously was speaking of induviduals between eachother. I could not see a person wanting to kill one specific person killing a massive amount of other people in the process as a regular thing happening at any day.

You can't believe how rediculous the whole "poison" thing sounds to me. The possibilities to kill someone with poison are MASSIVELY fewer than it would be to kill someone with a gun!

Poisoning takes planning, timing and luck for that matter. Gunning takes a split second! See someone on the street, pull up a taco, poison it and ask if the person would like to eat it, bring up a gun and finish it right away.Ok so I guess you never heard of the Ice Man which someone has already mentioned. I also didn't know we were talking about killings that only happen "on the street". I know cars kill people "on the street" a lot more than guns. You also misrepresented how poisoning generally is done. One way to poison many many people is go to a night club, look at all the unattended drinks and drop poison in them and walk away.

That happend at a club i used to frequent in oakland.

     A few examples:

    car theft:

    US

    1,237 million for 293 million people =421/100 000 inhabitants

    Belgium

    18450 voor 10.355.844 inw = 179/100 000 inw

    Homocide

    US: 5,6

    Belgium: 1,5

    rape

    US: 31,7

    Belgium: 24,8

Something makes the US society more violent. Honestly wouldn't know what.

The US is bigger, so the numbers inflate?

Come on mate...come on, lets get some violence per square mile going on.

Sigh... The numbers are already compared to the popllation. DUH! So it's figure * 1K inhabitants. Get it? Don't worry. Soon you'll learn how to read statistics in school.

Belgium has a far denser popluation than the US. Far, far, far denser. So does most of Western Europe. Population is highly concentrated.  More than in the US. Even in countries like Sweden or Finland that have large uninhated stretches of land.

I have issues? You, my friend, just said that Europe, yes Europe, has less cultural differences than the United States.

Do you even have a remote idea of how absurd that sounds? Do you even remotely grasp how stupid that makes you look?

Dude... Europe has about 700 MILLION inhabitants. Ok, that's less than China or India. You're right. Now let's look into those 700 million and Europe.

Europe has roughly 3000 years of recorded history. Areas that have been of great influence to Europe (Egypt, Babylon, ...) go back even further.

So you say the US has states? Fine. Europe has countries. Regions. Mini-states. Dutchies. Counties. Protectorates. Even colonies.

You say the US has no major language? 82% of all Americans speaks ONLY English at home. The US administration deals with about 2 or maximally 3 major lagnuages, while most of the press and other public things in the US are in one and the same language.

Europe has about... 30-40 major languages. The EU, the largest supranational body in the world and the largest market in the world, recoginzes 25 official languages. The EU provides all of its administration in these 25 languages. All Commission and parliment meetings are translated at will, often in more than those 25 languages.

    1. 18% German
    2. 12% French
    3. 13% English
    4. 13% Italian
    5. 9% Spanish
    6. 9% Polish
    7. 5% Dutch

Religion? Europe is close, very close, to the craddle of 3 of the largest religions ever. Not to mention the thousands (yes, 1000's) of lost or smaller religions. Maby of them are bound to one town or such. This while in the US 76.7% of the population have the same religion... And there haven't been any large scale wars involving religion in the US. Ehem, not so in Europe.

The US has more major cities? About the same really...
