I can get the same quality of games with the same quality of graphics on my PC and it cost me 700 dollars. Plus I can do business on it and surf the internet. True enough, but how many games come out on the PC in comparison to consoles? What's that? Not many?! Well, how much variety is there in those games? What? I'm only confined to FPS, RTS, and MMORPGs?! Well, those games must be pretty high quality across the board then right? Come again? They have the same consistency of quality as console games?! WTF???!!!! So really you say we can't compare PCs to Consoles plus high end TVs, but yet you turn around and compare consoles to super gaming PCs that are overpriced machines. But that is exactly what the PC fanbois have been doing in reverse. They've been comparing the most expensive console (PS3) with the most expensive HDTV (saw one at Wal-Mart for way less than $900), and then comparing it to a fuckin' eMachine. Reality check, I can get access to more games, with greater variety, with the two most popular consoles. BTW, the two most popular consoles can be had for $500. You can still keep the eMachine for home office stuff and be spending less money than a mid-level gaming rig would cost.
/FTW
I wasn't really comparing it with the most expensive HDTV i could find i have 2 Sony TVs a 36 and 42. The cost to replace the 36 inch with a comparable TV ( not some off brand) would cost 700+ with taxes for a 34 inch. Only reason i would have to buy HDTV would be xbox360 or ps3. Why not buy a smaller one? you may ask, I have nowhere to put it living in a apartment with 3 bedrooms 2 for my kids, space is limited. Sure i could play on the TVs i have. But i could of also play today's newer games on my 4 year old PC with the settings turned down.
But the arguement about PC gamers being confined to RTS, FPS, and MMORPGS is completely moot. Right here by my side, I have a Logitech Dual Action GamePad. And what do I use this controller for you may ask? My original intentions for buying it were for use with my NEOGEO Emulators as well as Nintendo 64 Emulator. Recently I got Resident Evil 4 for the PC, which I can play with the gamepad in the same fashion I would have played it on a console.
And Vice Versa, Consoles are coming equipped with USB ports, WUAH you may think! Yes, soon enough it'll be possible to slap in keyboard and mouse, and FPS your way to your console. But then again, who would want to that sitting on the floor in front of their TV, or perched at the desk with their console hooked to a monitor?
In the sense of "dumbing" down console games, I believe this to be the true fashion of console games. A prime example, and pure opinion I'd like to add, is that when the NGE hit, it felt like it was being "dumbed" down for console use. Again, purely opinion.
The whole point of one being confined to certain boundries of game genres needs to be omitted from this conversation. Whether you'd like to believe it or not, PCs are much more capable and stronger than consoles. But the price issue arises from this. ALAS, I THINK I SOLVED THE PROBLEM! A lot of the issue here derives from different levels of Psychological threshold for enjoyment. Yes, consoles are cheaper, that's the point. And for the moment being, consoles will be severly limited compared to the capabilities of PCs. One person may enjoy simple console gaming to complex gaming on a PC, and vice versa for a PC person.
What's happening here is just the confliction of the two sides. There is no "right" answer across the spectrum of all people. There is however corrent "opinions" for each side. One believes thier PCs have "better games" , and consoles the same.
The entire point of consoles is accessibilty to GAMING. IT'S ABOUT THE GAMES, as someone stated before. Got it? Good! In this sense, PCs are superior to consoles, but that's the point. The day a console can perform the operations of a PC is the day it is no longer a console. Again, these are my opinions, if you're going to counter them, don't be an arrogant ass, because I haven't been to you.
EDIT
Also, just so I can say I said this, here's my PC,
nly reason i would have to buy HDTV would be xbox360 or ps3.
But you don't HAVE to buy an HDTV. You can plug either one into a conventional TV. Most of us are going to be replacing our ordinary TVs within the next five years anyway, so why bother getting an HDTV until the price comes down? Especially considering that all your electronics (including the 360 and PS3) already hook up to conventional TVs.
Do you upgrade your monitor every time you upgrade your PC? I don't. Why should it be any different with consoles?

I understand their reasoning. Consolers keep saying machines cost a ton, but these are the highest end, everything top notch. Now they are applying that principle to consoles, saying you need top-of-the-line TVs in order to maximize your console experience. This effect works both ways I believe.
Thank you!! There seem to be people here that honestly believe that PCs are cheaper than consoles and that's total bullshit.
Although I will argue that cost is not the whole point of consoles. Having a dedicated gaming machine has the advantage of carrying less of the overhead that comes with multipurpose machines like PCs. While you can milk a lot of performance out of a PC, you're always going to fall short of the absolute potential due to the overhead of the operating system and hardware designed for expansion and modification. Games on consoles can actually take advantage of the resources of the machine in a way that PC games simply can't. Not only that, but by the end of a consoles life cycle, programmers have learned the machine so thoroughly that they can push the hardware beyond what it was originally intended to do. Take a look at Black, God of War, and Rise of the Colossus for the PS2 to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
The hardware bloat of the PC makes for lazy programmers and development that encourages the consumer to throw money at problems that the developers are actually paid to solve. Not smart enough to optimize your shader routines? Just up the minimum system requirements and delay for a few months! This is why you have the wonderful "release now, patch later" mentality that everybody loves.
IT'S ABOUT THE GAMES, as someone stated before. Got it? Good! In this sense, PCs are superior to consoles, but that's the point.
At this point you kind of lost me. Are you saying that PC games are superior due to graphics? Are you saying that there are more games available for the PC (which is untrue)? Are you saying that PC games are just plain better? Please clarify this one. If you're talking about graphics, that's undeniably true. If you're talking about volume of games, the PC loses hands down. If you're saying that PC games are just plain better, that's your opinion only and no one can really dispute something so subjective.

I should of clarified on this one. I agree that consoles have more games. And of course I agree that arguing against opinions is useless, if not simply retarded.
I believe PC games to be better than console games because of the complexity that a PC allows in a game. By this, I mean the ability for PC games to allow the player to micromanage several activites at once. A prime example is when playing an MMO on a console, it's normally harder, or takes more skillful learning to navigate an interface. This of course is moot in the case of FFXI, since the entire interface was derived from the console version.
The first thing that comes to my mind when a PC game is ported to console, or the other way around which is more common, is "Limitation, on the basis of interfacing and such."
I'm not trying to disprove either side, since I'm an avid proponent to each side, I'm just trying to diffuse differences and fuse similarities, based on my personal opinion.
Yeah, sure, a lot of stuff runs from the DVD itself, but that doesn't change the fact that, just like PCs, your hard drive requirements are going to go up. The HD in a console is used much differently than it is on a PC. On a console the HD just stores your save games and settings. Sometimes you'll be able to download additional content to your consoles HD, but that content almost always gets printed onto a disk eventually anyway. On the PC, the HD stores the entire game in order to eliminate disk swapping. Personally, I don't care if I have to swap disks provided that it's no more the 4 disks. Perhaps the advent of online gaming will encourage developers to make more co-op games, but I ain't seeing it. Then you need your eyes checked. Most of the first Multiplayer games were co-op. Contra, Double Dragon, Gauntlet, etc. More recently, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1&2, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomarrow & Chaos Theory, Dynasty Warriors, Rainbow Six 3 - Vegas, X-men Legends 1&2, Gears of War.... I could go on but I don't feel like tracking down the whole freakin' list. This has to be the lamest excuse yet.
I don't care that the HD is used differently in the Xbox. That doesn't change the fact that AS TIME GOES ON, THE HARD DRIVE REQUIREMENTS WILL GO UP. That's the reason you're using a hard drive now. If the space requirements will NEVER EVER go up, then why the hell do you need a hard drive? Couldn't you just use an 8MB memory card like the PS2? Or better yet, a PS1 memory card?
Oh wait. You can't. You need a hard drive now. Go figure.
To quote you: That's got to be the lamest excuse yet.
As to your 'suggestions' for co-op games - to me, a game isn't really much fun if you're playing on the same screen. Thus my comment about online play. If you've got to share a screen with somebody, it gets really chaotic and extremely confusing. This is particularly the case with games like X-Men Legends, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Dark Alliance.
There is absolutely no reason to be a jerk. I was presenting an opinion, and you jumped all over it like white on rice. Get over yourself a bit and come back down to earth where the normal people talk nicely, k?

Imo, the faster PC gaming dies, the better. I'm sick and tired of spending 2000$ just to be able to play the latest games.
on the other hand, im tired of shitty consoles that break down after two years or comes with a defect from the gitgo.
Sorry to burst your bubble, my friend. PC games wont ever go the way of the dodo. Playstation tried that with Number 3 (to become the next PC gaming console). You see how popular the Playstation 3 has been. Other than christmas time, their product has been gaining dust.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
most of these guys here play MMO's, period. In there eyes a console isnt as good as a PC because PC's dominate the MMO market. Fact of the matter is, the ONLY thing a PC has going for it are MMO's and thats changing.
walk into a gamestop and look at the game selection, then turn around and find that 3 foot high by 2 foot wide rack of PC games and ask yourself which is the dominant gaming platform. Theres a reason why all games are migrating to consoles and why twitch games are so damn popular on a console.
and dont even beging to compare network performance of a PC vs. 360. a 360 kills any PC across a network, you might as well throw all your hard earned cash you spent on that PC out the door once you plug it to a network.
oh, a console sucks because of its controller? first of all, the controller is pretty damn amazing. you just suck. secondly, its not limited to a controller just like a PC isnt limited to a mouse/keyboard. In fact, it can even use a playstation controller.. BONG!
um since I don't feel like reading the previous 111 posts I will just say this short and sweet. I rather buy a 300 dollar console and a 60 dollar game then spend several thousand bucks to upgrade my computer for the latest games.
i too wont read the million other posts... People if you build a pc correctly a console will NEVER equal gfx or depth period...been doin this for 20+ years... Yes cost is higher but i am an adult that makes good money and i like my games....
you Xbox defenders are in a no-win situation most of these guys here play MMO's, period. In there eyes a console isnt as good as a PC because PC's dominate the MMO market. No one is really bashing consoles, but gameloading is obviously bashing computers because he hate the price. Thats it. Lame reason. Consoles do what consoles do, PCs do what PCs do. They both deserve to exist, not just one.
considering the current crop of MMO we have today and the fact that consoles are pretty much just computers now anyway (can use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard with PS3) I would rather these games started coming out on the consoles as well. At least then I could buy one system and play all of the games that come out for it ever instead of having to upgrade my computer or buy a new one every year because my graphics card isnt good enough anymore or I dont have enough RAM or my processor isnt cutting it.
Its a real drag to buy a computer that is top of the line and the very next year you go to purchase a game and your graphics card isnt supported or it requires more RAM or a higher speed processor etc.. and to add insult to injury if you buy a PC game and you dont like it tough shit because you are stuck with it. When you open a PC game it is yours period and you cant trade them in like you can console games to get some money back.
Im frankly sick of the PC as a gaming platform any more. i would rather just shell out the 600 bones for a PS3 and actually get to enjoy it for the entire life of the system without pouring a bunch of cash into it every year. Once MMOs start to hit the consoles en masse I will be gone from the PC gaming scene for good.

Yes, consoles are cheaper, that's the point. Thank you!! There seem to be people here that honestly believe that PCs are cheaper than consoles and that's total bullshit.
Actually for me it wasn't cheaper to buy a console i went through 4 ps2 because of the faulty optical drives that Sony said wasn't faulty till they got sued and i could get it repaired for free. 4 ps2 x 300$ each=1200$ cost of my last pc 1000$. I'm in no way saying that's the case with the xbox 360 or ps3 but spending 1200$ on a ps2 still makes me think twice before i think about how much "cheaper" consoles are.
I hear the ps3 has controller issues xbox had heat problems><
I think the real reason the consoles are around is because its easier for some people to shell out 600$ for one then another 600$ for a pc later, opposed to spending 1200$ all at once for a decent pc.

Funny, I had the same problem, I bought PS2 when it came out and had to buy another. If that were todays prices, that would hurt quite a bit.
Another point being, can you customize an XBOX or a PS3? I mean can you swap out the video card, processor or motherboard? and add some memory? Im guessing no, atleast for now.. Here when the next gen Console comes you you will be rushing out to buy a whole new system that will be a much higher price than the previous version where As I will be upgrading 1 er two parts on my Machine. I have nothing against Console I just dont agree with them... or somthing like that...
That doesn't change the fact that AS TIME GOES ON, THE HARD DRIVE REQUIREMENTS WILL GO UP.
Yes, but unlike the PC, HD are normally standardized and not an after market item. As far as I know, you can't change out the HD in the PS3. The HD you get is what you're stuck with. The 360 does have after market HD, but they're only required if you subscribe to XBox Live. And the $120 Gig HD is only about $70. Refurbished 360 = $250 + 120 Gig HD = $380 which is about the same price as an entry level PC. Buy the 40 Gig drive and you're still in the $300 range.
You need a hard drive now. Go figure.
The 360 and Wii both use memory cards that can hold up to a Gig of data. DOH!!
As to your 'suggestions' for co-op games - to me, a game isn't really much fun if you're playing on the same screen.
Aside from Dynasty Warriors and the Dark Alliance games, all of those games could be played co-op online or over a LAN of consoles.
I was presenting an opinion, and you jumped all over it like white on rice.
Yes, but in presenting your reasons for that opinion, you said something that was blatantly false and misleading. Your opinion is your own, but your facts were jacked and that is what I was attacking.
i went through 4 ps2 because of the faulty optical drives
4 ps2 x 300$ each=1200$
You must have bought at launch. I didn't buy one until the price came down to $250 and had no problems. In fact, I still play that PS2. Most of the defective hardware gets sold during the first year which is why I generally don't buy until after the launch rush ends.
