Puzzles in Stargate Worlds -- NO THANKS

OMFG !!!

Freaking puzzles? I HATE PUZZLES IN GAMES.

I was gonna try this game Stargate Worlds because its an awesome show series; but as it stands, I just dont enjoy puzzles in my games. It shows that they really dont have much content in the game if they have to resort to puzzles.

No thanks, I'm not buying it. Role-playing games dont really need puzzles because they should be immersive in other ways. Ugly puzzles (*especially* when their difficulty gets worse as you progress) blocking enterance to a zone or (especially) an ability, frankly, annoy the fuck out of me. No thanks.

I will not be buying Stargate Worlds now, unfortunately. There are plenty of other MMORPG options that dont have gay puzzles that take the place of lack of content. Upcoming games like, say, Darkfall, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Unleash the Fury, to name a few...

This actually makes me pretty angry.

Seriously, I do not see much of an audience for content-unlocking puzzles in the MMO crowd. Players want fun, not frustration.

Bad move for Stargate Worlds, IMO.

I have written them off my list of games to buy, permanently.

EDIT -- Actually I changed my mind... what.... three months ago, about this. Stargate Worlds is gonna rule! (even with puzzles)

Didnt you even READ THE ARTICLE?

I dont think you get it.

Its not "reading and thinking" in the game. Its not based on actual in-game content.

Its a pop-up that is puzzle. Like a puzzle you put together at Christmas. Get it? Got it?

Its like stuff you did in grade-school or when you're extremely bored.

Read the article, then talk to me.

Well again this is a game that is a long long long way off so there is no way I could judge a game and say I won't play it until it releases and I get to try it out and see. With this game I could see how Puzzles could work and be alot of fun and would be different than other mmos could be good Ill definatly keep my Eye on this game :)

Hey, if you wanna play this sort of game, go play Puzzle Pirates.

I dont like Puzzle Pirates. I say again, they shouldnt pollute Stargate Worlds with gay puzzles.

Stargate SG-1 is about action. And also about fixing problems in-game. Not stupid puzzles.

You fanboys are impossible to reason with. You are blind, dumb idiots that cant think for themselves.

Stargate SG-1 team fixed things with other content elements. They didnt do stupid cross-word puzzles to save Earth. They actually did stuff within the gameworld. However, now this reveals that they cant make a simulated world so they wanna make it into Puzzle Pirates.

I dont care what you think, I know I wont try it until they have toned down the puzzle elements.

If you want to spend two hours on an extremely intricate puzzle that unlocks a high-end skill-set or area, then thats YOUR PROBLEM. I dont want to. Its NOT FUN to me. I would rather PK you while you solve your little puzzle. To me, thats fun. To you, maybe you like to prove to yourself how smart you are. I dont need puzzles to tell me how smart I am, and I also dont think puzzles are fun. Psssh.

Get a life. Are you freaking serious?  Every other episode they are trying to figure out some puzzle or decipher some ancient language.  Have you ever even watched the show or do you just tivo it and fast forward through to the shootouts?

You dont really get it. Really, youre the one that cant fathom this complaint of mine. After this post here, I am done with my argument in this thread.

In the television shows they werent doing cross-word puzzles or some such shit. They were deciphering languages. They were figuring out astro-physics. YOU WONT BE DOING THAT. You will be solving little puzzles because they arent able to have a sufficiently simulated worldscape to implement anything else.

Really, I would rather have the game emulate those methods (like all other MMORPGs) using in-game player-character abstractions like skillsets (its called "roleplaying)", instead of me doing boring, repetitive "puzzles" that are... dull waste of time.

Thats it. I'm done. I'm out of here. Bye, fanboys.

I just read the article and actually think it's pretty cool.  Something non-combat once in a while keeps it interesting.  I can only kill so many people/aliens until it loses its luster.  My dad, who is a huge SG fan, will love this because he is not a big combat gaming person.  So I might be able to convince my dad to play with me in this one!  Thanks for the link to the article.

No thanks, I dislike puzzles because it slows the game down to a crawl or into a wall.... a very few sporadic puzzles would be ok but really, they will be on a wiki or a site... So they are only puzzling if you play before they are figured out...  It's a waste of time that could be spent on something else, I think.

This is a honest question with no sarcasam.  You say the time could be better spent on something else.  What do you think it could be better spent on?

And I suppose those little puzzles that Daniel Jackson and Sam Carter have to figure out in order to advance the story are pretty stupid as well? Ya know....Stargate's not all "shoot the bad guys". They do need to figure a few things out first like translations, alien technology....important stuff like that.  I suggest you role up a soldier character and leave that science and archeology  to others.

You've not played any real RPGs then have you? I mean NWN had puzzles, PnP D&D and just about ALL the PnP games I've played have puzzles.       Puzzles aren't gay they're another layer of depth.  If all your into is killing then by all means stick to FPS games.

Personally I think its innovative they're going so far with puzzles and its about time too that MMO's start offering something other than the standard go here and kill or go here and fight off other players type of scenarios.

As for the comment someone made about puzzles slowing the game down..they only slow the game down if all your doing is running around like a chicken with your head cut off.  I'm sure they're not any puzzles in the middle of a battle so why worry?  I'm sure someone's smart enough to figure them out pretty quick so you can always have someone answer them for you just like they do with everything else.

God I wonder sometimes about the state of the world when people don't want to use their brains for anything.

Erm... Actually, after thinking about it all day today...

Yeah, I think I way over-reacted. Puzzles would be okey with me, just as long as it leads to PvP (which interviews tell it will).

Sometimes I go a little overboard, lol. I have high hopes for this game and something like this kinda hit me off-guard.

But its all good. Stargate Worlds will still PWN.

Content that won't be as out of date as answering a question or pushing gears in the right order... Or firing a bullet every 3 seconds for 9 seconds and clicking your heels 5 times to recharge a gate....

I mean seriously, the puzzle answers unless randomized and even then the answers will be found online at gaming sites... Since they will be found there, the time is more or less wasted for an effect that would be better spent - fine tuning skills, adding other content of varying types that wont get poo'd on by online gaming site walkthroughs or forums... Giving someone tactics is one thing like how to fight a boss, but the players that get that information still have to execute the kill.... That content is better than a puzzle that will be outdated for everyone everywhere when a single person posts the answer to the puzzle... Then all the time spent on the puzzles of this game will be for nothing.... You don't have to execute puzzles, if you have the answers, you have the answers....

I think most people (including myself) would actually consider the solution to the various puzzles spoilers. It's part of the storyline and gameplay experience. Won't it give you much more feel of accomplishment if you solve it yourself?

Yeah, I don't really see the problem with Puzzles. There were plenty of Puzzles in the show, and it'll be different than the normal "Go to point A to Pick up Object B, and then go to Point C to kill NPC D" quests/instances we're always stuck with. I'd love to have puzzles/minigames used to open locked doors or get that Goa'uld device to work.
