Put it this way. Sicne I only tested SWg a few times after NGE and enjoyed myself somewhat, before I noticed 20million Jedi running around. I'd have to assume that classic SWG must've been a freakin ball! (Complex, well balanced...the works) I'd actually quite LotrO right away and join up!

Why would I want to come back to play a game where easily 70% of the population has gone, that has a guy in charge who likes bending its customers over and royally screwing them to the music of Rick James in particular the song "Give it to me baby". If another company took over then i might consider it but I don't like paying people to screw me over. Not to mention it's been 3 odd years since the game I enjoyed which is PRE CU not CU existed and they can't go back to the exact point just before the CU hit so the answer is no chance.
Water cooled Intel Corei7 920 D0 Stepping OC'd 4.3GHz - 6GB Corsair Dominator GT RAM 2000Mhz - ASUS RAGE II EXTREME X58 Mobo - 2x HD 5870 in Crossfire X, OC'd 0.9Ghz core 1.3Ghz RAM - Dell 2407WFP Flat Panel LCD 24" 1920x1200
If they had never published the CU or the NGE I'd probably still play, just casually instead of compulsively. Going back to pre-CU without the pre-CU community would be a disaster. The pre-CU community was what made that game, not anything that SOE or LucasArts put in the game. It's a shame they didn't realize that before it was too late.
I've actually resubbed a couple of times just to see what the CU and NGE were like. Complete train wreck.
Nope! The game sucked then too. Now if they took the engine, removed Jedi and all SW references and graphics and released it as say "Traveller" or some other generic space setting, then yes. I always felt it was a good system at it's core but that it should never have been associated with SW.
Only if they fixed the items that many demanded that lead to SWG mass exodus.. Lets face it.. 1/2 of SWG's initial 3 month population QUIT because of some game breaking problems.. Having a classic server wouldn't be appealing unless problems were fixed.. I still remember my last day on SWG before logging off for the last time.. NO ONE was on Rori (which was my starting planet).. NO ONE was in the player city on Naboo I was a member of, besides the bots doing macros.. I felt like I was playing a console game all by myself.. The missions were boring, crafting unbalanced.. I hopped on my speeder and cruised around Naboo one last time.. EMPTY EMPTY EMPTY. and only bots were the cantina doing their grinding macros.. The holocron grind macro RUINED the game in search of the almighty Jedi key..
So much potential, so little intelligence at SOE to find it..
If there were classic servers I would be back in a heart beat. Until then I will not play any Sony games or purchase Sony products of any sort. I sit and type this as I watch tv on my brand new Phillips 42" LCD. (BTW Samsung uses Sony parts in their Tv's)
for me it was mostly the lack of players that NGE brought that drove me away from the game, not NGE itself. If more players were to come back if pre-cu was brought back i would most definately rejoin, i would even consider playing again if servers were merged but thats impossible with housing and stuff. I would.
Sorry but I played the beta for 6 months and then the game for a year, and after all was said and done, I wouldnt come back if they paid me. I spent WAY too much time, effort and coin just for them to totally trash the game.
I would come back to Pre-CU on one cndition: The game actually WORKED! I quit because of the massive inconsistant bugs. One minute a mission worked, the next the objective simply disappears. One minute your guild chat was working fine, the next it just quit (even though it worked fine for 75% of your other guidies). I could go on but you get the idea. I stayed with SWG for 6 months but after that I just couldn't take the bugs anymore.
A classic server is a great idea but I think we all know that SOE will never do it. I doubt Lucas Films would allow it.
I doubt many would come back, what we need is an SWG 2, and not by the clowns at SOE. They've messed up time after time after time. Just look at Sony's stock, it's a mess just like at SOE.
By the way, is the game still ruined? Is the rapid firing un Star Wars like stuff still around? That is the big killer right there.
Sure, I'd go back to my ninja-wookiee and that little fella... People nicknamed him 'Shuttleaccident'... Bothan was it? Dunno what he actually was good at, but I loved him.
Yeah, I'd go back.
Edit: I always wondered why the Image Designers couldn't shave wookiees.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.
4 of my RL friends and myself would. Make that 5 players!
Its absolutely a mystery why they do not understand how good for them it would have been if they opened a classic pre-CU server.
The game as it was before the CU was just a diamond of a game with the best MMORPG community ever.
If they had just focused on fixing bugs and adding content to their current system, rather than putting most of their resources into the garbage that is called NGE, that game would have been second to only WoW in popularity today.

I would, pre-cu i would prefer but CU I could more than live with.
I would resub both of my accounts if they rolled to CU or pre CU , both versions of SWG rocked.
